3.5 limited edition 06 Avalon

Hey I kinda feel stupid for asking this on here but I’m a younger beginner mechanic I work for a auto body paint shop and I wanted some genuine advice/ tips for a direction on my older Avalon it has 245.000 miles I bought it at 190k and had it for around 3 years now as a daily it’s the 3.5 liter version and I wanna know what can I do with it ik ik it’s better to sell it and it’s not even worth value really any more but I love this thing even stock it’s fun quick and genuinely a safe car I was thinking dropping it a good 2 3 inches maybe stance out a bit and turn it to a track car for corners and street driving but I have no clue and don’t know we’re to start first any ideas?

Rattling Noise

I have a 2016 Limited, and it has developed a rattle when I hit road bumps. Its coming from the left front region. Someone told me this is a loose counter-weight in the steering wheel. Anyone else experienced this? Fixed it?

Thanks.

My mom died, I forgot to drive her hybrid, battery dead

Hi all, my mom died 6 weeks ago. In all the stress, I completely forgot to drive her car around every week. It’s been about 8 weeks since her car was driven. I feel so stupid, but grief isn’t logical.

I don’t have a hybrid, so I don’t know much about them. Can I just call a friend (who also does not have a hybrid) to jump it? Or am I screwed and I need to call my/her mechanic instead?

Thanks in advance

Tacoma ——> Avalon

Traded in my ‘23 Tacoma TRD for this 2019 Avalon Hybrid XSE, I loved my Tacoma but these California gas prices are no joke! Nevertheless this was a very good investment!

2011 Alternator issue?

Hey all, I have a 2011 Avalon with about 20k or so miles and I have the battery light on the dash. I was driving and the lights/radio/qc flickered and cut out, then the abs and TC went out when entering a exit ramp during that drive and almost crashed. Once parked all I could hear was the clicking sound of the starter. I had it jumped and it stayed on for a bit(light still on) but when testing an accessory it died. The new battery installed more or less the same issue but was able to get it home. So now I more or less have it possibly narrowed down to a couple of things, the alternator, maybe the belt slipped and I need to see if the fuse for the alternator could have gone.

So in short just from the sound of it what do you think the issue may be? I was able to start it drive it, have accessories on today but I assume it's just whatever charge the battery came with. If it unfortunately is the alternator I may try to change it myself. What do you think the problem is and if the alternator is the issue are they that difficult to change in a 2011? Thanks!

maintenance

hello! I have a 2005 avalon that i’ve fallen in love with the past few years. i know absolutely nothing about car stuff and I want to start taking better care of my baby but I have no clue where to start or what to do when it comes to replacing things. i’ve gotten basic stuff done like wipers, oil change, tire rotations but that’s about all. what should I be looking for / keeping up with?

Are the 2006/2007 models really that much less reliable than the 2008 - 2012?

Hi everyone! I'm in the market for my first used car ever after being out of rehab for 9 months and working to save about $10k ... could not be more excited and proud to finally be at this point.

I've heard great things about the 2000s avalons, but there seems to be some discrepancy on those 05/06/07 models. Some people claim they are just as reliable as the 08-2012 models but others cite the huge improvement on the transmission, oil tubing, and overall reliability starting in '08.

There are way more '05 - '07 models in my area (Savannah GA // Jacksonville FL) for sale in my price / mileage range ($8k - $10k, target ~160k miles or less). Are those years really so much worse off? I'm looking for a long-term reliable old car with as few maintenance headaches as possible. Probably putting no more than 50 miles a week on it, with the occasional roadtrip out of Georgia.

Thank you!

Thought you guys would appreciate this

Recently had to change my valve cover gaskets because of terrible leaks. It was not fun but my wife and I did it within 2 full days so it could’ve been worst. Thought you guys would get a kick out of seeing the inside I wish I remembered to take more pictures but I was stressed out. At 185k right now but she’s still going strong

Hubler Toyota dealership - almost killed me

I purchased my 2006 Avalon new from Beck (now Hubler).  Spent over $10K servicing the vehicle with them over many years.  Reasonably happy; though prices are higher than local shops, I assumed Hubler would be higher quality and stand behind their work.

Recently had a tail light go out, and took it in.  Current service manager (Andrew Ford) handled my visit.  The mechanic sheared a bolt while removing the rear seat.  Instead of replacing it with a like bolt, he improvised a fix by drilling in a non-standard bolt he had on hand, and sent me home.

Later I discovered that the mechanic had punctured the top of the gas tank with his fix.  The vapor leak could cause an explosion at any time. Had to have it repaired immediately at cost of $1400 (replaced gas tank, replaced bolt, labor).

I contacted Hubler, assuming they would cover the cost, since it was their mistake (the mechanic had even put the non standard bolt repair in the service notes), and I had been a customer for 20 years.

Even though every person involved in the original mistake was still working at Hubler, they said it was not their problem, since their dealer name was Beck at the time of the mistake.  The General Manager admitted the error, as did the service manager.

They even gave me the private email address of the former owners (Beck family) and said contact them.  (I actually did - it was a fake email, of course).

Hubler is unethical and unprofessional.  They will not stand behind a mistake, even when the mistake is obvious, life threatening, documented in writing by their own staff, and committed by their own people.  Instead, they hide behind excuses.

I hope this saves the next person from making the mistake of working with Hubler Toyota.

333,000 miles

My 2000 avalon passed the 333,000 mile marker recently and is still going strong. Felt like sharing the milestone. Love this car, she's a little leaky with the oil and i have a check engine light i can't seem to fix, but she still drives good lol.

Thoughts on a 2004 XLS with 169k miles for $4.5k?

Its in overall pretty clean condition. Clean title. Good seller rating. I asked about the timing belt and the seller was unsure the last time it was replaced, so I could negociate the price down. I think it could be a great daily but wanted some other opinions.

Is finding parts for Avalons an issue ?

I’m in the market for a used Avalon but I was told it may be hard/expensive to find some of the parts since the car has been discontinued? I assumed Avalon parts are just Toyota parts and should be available but would be helpful to hear from the owners here.

Is this normal, that my moonroof is “lubed up” like this?

lol looks like somebody just slathered butter all over the top. You don’t see it if the moonroof is closed though, obviously
