Security Bank called me 17 times from 17 different numbers in 6 hours over ONE missed payment.

I missed one credit card due date, due Aug. 7. On Aug. 18, while at work I started getting calls from a string of numbers on my personal phone that I didn’t recognize, none labeled as Security Bank. I searched online and found out they were from Security Bank’s third-party collection partner.

I paid the full balance that same day around 11 AM (when I had a break from meetings), through the Security Bank app, using my Security Bank account (for same day posting), including the late fee and interest. Calls kept coming into the afternoon anyway.

17 calls, one day, 17 different numbers: 8:26 AM, 9:40 AM, 10:26 AM, 10:41 AM, 10:52 AM, 11:05 AM, 11:15 AM, 12:23 PM, 2:01 PM, 2:06 PM, 2:11 PM, 2:16 PM, 2:20 PM, 2:24 PM, 2:28 PM, 2:32 PM, 2:33 PM.

The 2:20-2:33 PM stretch alone: 4 calls in 13 minutes. I’m at work and can’t take personal calls during business hours, so this was genuinely disruptive on top of everything else.

I filed a formal written complaint at 11:26 AM that day with the full call log. Their response acknowledged the frequency issue but framed it as “collection-related call-outs may be initiated as part of the bank’s collections process,” and asked me to give them my preferred contact time for future calls. I followed up clarifying I wasn’t disputing the missed payment, I was objecting to the volume and the fact that calls continued after I’d paid.

They routed it to their Collections Team, promised a reply within 7 banking days. When it finally came today at 1:47 PM, the response said:

- The calls were an “approved Collection tool” used to reach customers, no further explanation given.

- They just confirmed my payment had posted and told me to disregard any further texts/emails.

They then closed the case without addressing my formal complaint about how their third party conducts collections, my questions on why the calls needed to be that frequent and from so many different numbers, and why customers are harassed with collection calls when a monetary penalty is already being imposed.

Why I think this is the wrong way to run collections:
- I missed one cycle, not a year of nonpayment.

- I was already charged late fees and interest. That’s supposed to cover the cost of being late.

- Getting called by 17 different unlabeled numbers in one day, several after I’d already paid, isn’t a reminder, it’s overkill.

- Other banks just send an SMS before the due date. That alone prevents most missed payments and costs the bank nothing compared to a call center chasing people down.

- If the late fee already compensates for the risk, what’s the aggressive call volume actually accomplishing besides making customers feel harassed?

For context, I’ve missed payments with other banks before they started sending sms reminders of the due datw. In those cases, I just got the bill on the next cycle with a late charge and interest added, no barrage of calls, no harassment. That’s it. I though that’s how it’s normally handled.

Curious what others think, is this a normal collections practice in the Philippines that we’re all expected to accept, or does this cross a line worth reporting to BSP? Has anyone had a BSP complaint like this go anywhere?

BPI Debit Card Do Not Honor Cap -004

I just got this replaced last March and it's already defective. The machine can't read it anymore even after i tried cleaning the chip.

Bihira nalang gamitin, ang bilis pa masira 👎❌

Even the old debit card they issued before this card was replaced was also defective.

Cardless withdrawal is very limited in terms of location.

Besides paying for a P200 fee to have this card replaced, you'll also have to spend half a day at minimum to request for a new card and another half day to pick up the new card.

Before posting, i already tried cleaning the chip but it didn't solve the issue I am experiencing.

Bank Certificate and Branch of Account

Is there any way to know which branch of account you opened your account? Also, do you need to go to your branch of account to request and claim bank certificate?

Hi guys! We're running a short study on how Filipinos feel about banking. Not trying to sell anything and no wrong answers here, so for anyone aged 18 and above who has a bank in the Philippines, this is for you. We just want to know about people's real experiences and honest opinions.

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes. Some questions are quick and others are more detailed.

As a thank you, everyone who completes it can enter a raffle for Php 500.00 and GCash numbers will be collected at the end of the form so that we can contact winners and send them their cash prize.

Would appreciate anyone 18+ in the PH willing to share their time and thoughts — TIA!

BPI Preferred is overrated

  1. You don't really get priority for OTC transactions. You still need to get a number and non-Preferred customers are still attended to before you.

  2. Your RM is not really obligated to respond to your requests (not even to acknowledge receipt of your messages).

  3. Bank certs are not free by default, you have to request for the fee to be waived.

  4. You don't get preferential investment offers by default, it still depends on the padrino system (i.e. who you know inside the bank)

  5. Instapay transfers used to be a nice perk. But considering most banks now offer it for free, the edge is lost.

Arguably the only real benefit is the mobile cheque deposit feature, but even "Next by BPI Preferred" customers (100k TRB) have that.

In reality, you get more for being an RCBC Hexagon Club (100k TRB) member.

So if you're considering building a relationship with BPI because of the reasons above, you have to think twice.

No cash dispensed, deducted from account, already filed a ticket

Hello!

I am still experiencing some anxiety and disappointment and I don't know what to do.

Nag-withdraw ako from a BPI atm using my Metrobank card pero di lumabas yung pera (10k). Twice ko triny and both receipt said na error and declined.

Tumawag ako agad sa Metrobank and nabigyan naman ako ng ticket. After a week, ito na yung reply nila sakin sa email.

It's my hard-earned money and I don't know what to do next.

May pwede ba ako pag-escalate-an ng issue na to? Wala talagang lumabas na cash and sinasabi nilang nadispense kahit wala naman.

Tatawag ba ako sa BPI din?

Thank you sa sasagot.

BPI Balance/Failed SPayLater Payment Concern

Hi! Has anyone experienced this with BPI before?

I received a ₱5,600.00 transfer from BDO to my BPI account around 12:10–12:15 AM. It went through successfully and my balance went from ₱1,450.17 to ₱7,050.17.

I immediately paid my SPayLater bill worth ₱6,566.90, but the payment failed. The amount was still deducted from my BPI balance, leaving me with only ₱483.27.

I checked the app again later, but it wasn’t loading and was showing the piggy bank/maintenance screen, so I assumed BPI was under maintenance.

After some time, I checked again and my balance was suddenly back to ₱1,450.17. I also checked the BDO app to see if the ₱5,600.00 transfer had been reversed or returned, but it still shows as successful/completed on BDO’s end.

My concern now is that my SPayLater bill is due today. Should I pay it again now, or should I wait for the failed transaction to be reversed/credited back first? I’m worried that if I pay it again, the first transaction might still get credited back later and I’ll end up paying twice.

Also, what should I do regarding my BPI account/bank? Since it’s the weekend, I’m not sure if I should contact them immediately or just wait until the next banking day for the failed transaction and balance to update.

Has anyone experienced the same thing with BPI? Should I just wait a few hours for the balance and failed transaction to update? Thank you!

Has Anyone Experienced This With BPI?

Hi! I recently received my BPI card, but I’ve been having problems ever since.

I’ve been trying to register my account online/BPI app, but I’m not receiving any OTP. I’ve tried requesting it multiple times, but nothing comes through.

I also tried activating my card through a BPI ATM, but every attempt shows **“Unable to Process Transaction.”** I’ve tried again several times, but the same error keeps appearing.

I tried contacting them kaso my both of my sim ayaw kahit naka ilang load na ako ng call for all networks.
Hindi ko pa kasi mapuntahan yung branch dahill gabi na ako nagoout from work tapos ngayon closed sila.
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue, especially with both the OTP and card activation not working. Were you able to fix it?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

IDRP for Bank Employees, any thoughts?

If your CC accounts are under IDRP, are there banks that will no longer accept you? Or does it depend on your job/role? Can this be justified by providing contracts and certificates of good payment?

It’s probably better to be under IDRP and consistently pay than to not be able to pay at all.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Deactivated? Land Bank Debit Card

My LandBank savings card is mainly used for large, infrequent purchases (laptop, phone, tuition, etc.), so around ₱500–₱1,000 is usually left in it after purchases.

The card was last used ~6 months ago and recently, I tried checking the balance because I had money remitted to me from abroad, but the ATM displayed “Account Number is Invalid.”

I planned to visit my branch at C.M. Recto, Davao City, but it recently closed permanently. I’ve also tried contacting LandBank customer care via email and Messenger but haven’t received a response.

A few things that might be relevant:
- The balance may have fallen below ₱500 by a few pesos after my last purchase.
- I previously had a similar issue after 3 months of inactivity. After contacting LandBank, my Piso account was upgraded to a regular account so I could withdraw >₱50,000.
- Could the permanent closure of the C.M. Recto branch have affected my account?

Has anyone experienced something similar with LandBank? Is this likely an inactive/dormant account issue, or could the branch closure be related?
