Need help choosing my first travel card (Denver, long-distance relationship, future international travel)
I've spent way too many hours researching this and think I've narrowed it down, but I'd love some opinions before I apply.
My situation:
- 24M in the Denver area with a 700+ credit score.
- Currently only have a Discover Student card (1-2 years old).
- My girlfriend lives in Ohio, so I'll be buying flights between DEN and Dayton/CVG/Columbus every 1-2 months.
- I usually book whichever airline is cheapest (often United or Frontier), so flexibility is important.
- Long-term goal is to take 1-2 international trips per year using points, or just save on these domestic flights
- I don't care much about lounges, checked bags, or hotel status. I usually travel with just a personal item.
Monthly spending (excluding rent):
- Groceries: ~$300-400 (95% at Cosco)
- Gas: ~$140-200 (99% as Cosco)
- Dining: $50-150
- Top expenses are rent, groceries, then gas
- Hotels: Almost never (Besides Airbnb when I travel)
- Total spend: ~$700-1,200/month (not including flights)
Cards I'm considering: Chase Sapphire Preferred, Citi Strata Premier, AAA Cashback Visa Signature® Card, Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi
Based on all of this and my consistent travel, and desire for international travel, what card is best for me? Happy to hear suggestions outside of these cards
