tut attendance

hey guys just making sure i wont be cooked for this. my attendance for classes are below 80% but i have
AC for most of the absences (i think i didnt seek AC for one of them per subject) i have a medical condition and was really unwell for about a month earlier in the sem and ive fallen unwell again, ive had doctors notes for the AC which was all approved, im just nervous as my AC for this week hasn’t been approved yet when originally it came through pretty fast. surely when you have doctors notes the AC for attendance is always approved?

A lil form thnx

https://forms.gle/u5s6VhzLATnUtmhZ6

I feel like the IT/comp sci community at UoW might need a group/community board for common issues and collaboration. If you feel something similar is needed fill the form to show support.

Please fill this and share it around if you like it. Thanks :)

Early Entry Application Admissions

Hi, I am a HSC student hoping to move from a regional area to UOW next year to study Engineering (Civil or Environmental). While Early Entry Admissions aren't open yet, and I know I shouldn't be hedging my bets on it completely, I am concerned that my HSC courses will move me lower on the 'priority' list (not sure how else to put it), even though I generally did well in Year 11 (Dux). My classes include Maths Standard 2, Geography, Business Studies, Investigating Science, Physics and Advanced English - all of which I got As (band 6s in all assignments) except for a B in Physics. Specifying so I hopefully get realistic advice on my chances. I understand that while there aren't prerequisites, I am expected to have knowledge in Advanced Maths, and possibly Extension 1 and Chemistry - I will be taking bridging courses over the summer for what is necessary. So, will I be severely affected by not having taken Advanced or Extension Maths and Chemistry, or even just from the classes I chose?

UOW vs Macquarie

I have applied for program Master of Civil Enginering program and got offers from both UOW and Macquarie. No I am confused what would be a wise decision here cuz annual tution fee is almost similar. So if I am concerned about uni life, living ease and my job prospects after the degree, which option would be better. Any genuine advices are appreciated. Thank you.

Tutorial Attendance

How strictly do they enforce tutorial attendance? I'm getting towards the end of semester and I'm realising that if an alternate zoom tutorial for a public holiday I thought was optional was mandatory then I'm only hitting 75% not 80%. Can they even force you to attend a different tutorial on a day you didn't sign up for? How screwed am I?

I was considering emailing the subject coordinator, but if they don't actually care I feel like putting it in writing might force them to enforce it. On the other hand, if I'm going to get a Technical Fail anyway I would prefer to know now so I can stop worrying and not bother studying for the final exam.

Has the school gone downhill?

I'm considering the Bachelor of Honours Psych at UOW and am a bit put off by the constant news abt mismanaged money aswell as the mass layoffs last year, but has the educational experience significantly worsened or is it just structural issues?

Asking about accommodation

Hey, I’m probably moving into Bangalay soon and just wanted to ask people who’ve actually lived there.

How’s the soundproofing? Like can you hear neighbours, people in the hallway, doors, stuff like that?

Also how are the bathrooms and overall cleanliness? Any issues with mould, weird smells, bugs, bad water pressure, etc.?

And one random question since Bangalay doesn’t seem to have AC, do the windows open enough to use a portable air conditioner with an exhaust hose?

Would really appreciate any honest opinions, good or bad. Thanks =))))

Has anyone actually done the 2+2 transfer from SRM to Australia (UQ, UWA, UOW, or Deakin)?

I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at KTR looking into the 2+2 twinning/transfer programs for Australia. I’ve started getting offer letters, but the credit exemptions (RPL) seem inconsistent compared to what SRM’s website says.

I’m trying to find anyone who has actually transferred to see:

  • Credits: Did you really get the full 2 years of credit, or did the Australian uni make you do extra units/semesters?
  • Degree: For UQ, did you graduate with a B.E. (Honours) or just a Bachelor of Science (BS)?
  • Process: How was the transition? Was it a smooth 2+2 or did it turn into a 2+3?

If you’ve done this transfer or know a senior who has, please comment or DM me. Just trying to figure out if it's worth it before paying the deposit. Thanks!

Finding tutors?

I'm wondering if there's any platform or place where I can find an economics tutor at UoW who can spend an hour or two helping a first year economics student get through one particular subject.

Any help appreciated.
