Why is USCIS taking too long?

hello! i just want to ask if anyone has the same situation as me. my parent became a green card holder in 2023 and quickly petitioned me under F2A visa for consular processing. my PD is september 2023 at that time i was 20 yo. now, 3 years later (i’m 23 now), there hasn’t been any movement with my petition even though the visa bulletin says its current. i asked chat gpt and its says the visa bulletin has already advanced past my priority date and that the remaining bottleneck is that USCIS still hasn’t approved the I-130. is anyone also experiencing the same thing? and what could be the reason for USCIS taking long to approve the I-130? any advice would greatly help. thank you!

I-130 Approved, I-765 approved I-485 Pending

I-130 Approved, I-485 Pending

I had my marriage-based AOS interview on June 18 My husband is a green card holder (LPR)

My I-130 was approved the very next day, but my I-485 is still pending and the status says “Case Is Being Actively Reviewed.”

Update:My I-765 status has now changed to “Approval Case Decision Rendered.”

Has anyone had a similar timeline in Chicago? Did your I-485 get approved soon after the I-765 approval, or are the two unrelated? I’m wondering if this means my I-485 might update soon.

I’d appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Contacting the USCIS Ombudsman

Standalone I-130 submitted in Jan 2023 for LPR spouse residing outside US. USCIS inquiry says its within normal processing times, but I see quite a few posts about approvals for dates later than Jan 2023. I have reached out to congressman, but a not a lot of movement there as well. Can anyone who has tried contacting the CIS Ombudsman share details about it ?

I-765 Got approved

We filed the I-485/I-765 in August 1, 2025, we had our interview on November 12, 2025 but the IO didn’t let me go inside for the interview (I’m the USA citizen) just my husband (Mexico) and his lawyer went in, but before closing the door she just told me “the application has been approved”. She only asked My husband 3 questions
1-) wife’s birthday
2-) wife’s complete name
3-) Home address
The interview was 5-7 minutes and when my husband and lawyer came out the lawyer was confused because the IO didn’t say anything about the interview she just gave them a white paper saying “we are going to review” and we haven’t heard anything until today that he got an email and I logged in to his account “your I765 has been approved” he got his work permit for 1.5 years.. My question is do you guys think he’ll get his I485 approved soon?(We filed the I-130 on Dec 5, 2022 and got approved October 24, 2023)

NJ Congressional inquiry

I’m trying to get my EAD approved ASAP. We’re sinking. No savings and spouse’s salary is barely getting us by. It’s been over 8 months since we filled and I really need to work.

If you’re from New Jersey, who did you contact in congress and/or senate that got your case approved, especially your EAD/i765?

Any help is appreciated.

TIA!

Is F2A Adjustment of Status processed at the same speed as immediate relatives of U.S. citizens?

Hi everyone,
I have a question about AOS (I-485) processing times for the F2A category.
For those who are adjusting status as the unmarried child under 21 of a green card holder (F2A), does the I-485 process usually move at about the same speed as it does for spouses or other immediate relatives of U.S. citizens once the priority date is current?
Or is AOS for F2A generally processed more slowly even after the priority date becomes current?
My priority date is April 23, 2024, and I’m planning to file my AOS package next week. I’ve already seen a few people with similar priority dates who have had their interviews and even received approvals. Based on recent experiences, when do you think I could realistically expect approval if I file next week?
I’m interested in hearing about your personal experiences or anything you’ve seen recently.

Thanks!

Please help

Hi everyone, I need some advice on my case. I am currently in the F2A category (as an unmarried daughter under 21), but I will turn 22 this August. I had my interview a week ago. After the interview, the officer approved my I-130. I also confirmed with her that I was still considered F2A, and she said yes. However, I just received my I-130 approval letter, and the visa section listed is F2B. I am very confused by this. My CSPA age is still under 21, and my Priority Date (PD) is already current. Do I need to draft a CSPA explanation and submit it as unsolicited evidence through my online USCIS account to request a category correction? Thank you.I checked with emma and she said processed in NBC. Could you guys explain why it sent to NBC?

I-485 Approved!

Finally our turn to post! Wife’s I-485 was approved to day timeline below:

Filed concurrently: July 2022
I-130 approved: April 2023
Interview: End of April 2026
Approved: July 2026

Interview experience was great, officer was friendly and making jokes, really put us at ease. Asked standard questions about how we met, parents names, we uploaded new evidence a few days before and brought it all printed out with an updated medical which the officer was thankful for and said was a good idea. He gave verbal approval at the time but indicated he didn’t know what happens next as the memo had just been issued that week. Happy to answer any questions, was one of the 75 countries but not the 33.

F2A Category child younger than 21 - has anyone’s I130 been approved from 2024?

Hello, my priority date is August 2024. Since the visa bulletin for July says 01JAN25, I wanted to ask if anyone got I-130 approved for a child younger than 21 (consular processing!)? Thank you and good luck to everyone!

F2A Submitted July 1st, 2022 - Current Status Still Processing

My Form I-130 was filed on July 1, 2022. Later, I concurrently filed my Form I-485 and Form I-765 on May 12, 2025. I received my Employment Authorization Document (EAD) on January 7, 2026.

I attended my adjustment of status interview in December 2025. During the interview, the officer appeared to misunderstand the regulations regarding F-1 students and Optional Practical Training (OPT). The officer stated that I was living and working in the United States illegally as an F-1 student. I respectfully disagreed and provided evidence that my SEVIS record and Form I-20 were valid and that I was maintaining my lawful F-1 status while on OPT.

The interview did not focus on the bona fides of my marriage or my relationship with my wife. Instead, most of the questions concerned my F-1 status, my legal presence in the United States, and how my wife obtained her green card, which I felt was unrelated to the purpose of the adjustment interview.

At the conclusion of the interview, I was instructed to go home and wait for a decision. On May 2, 2026, my case status updated from "Interview was Scheduled" back to "Case Is Still Being Processed by USCIS". Because my case had exceeded the normal processing time, I submitted an inquiry on May 18, 2026.

Since then, I have continued waiting without any clear information regarding my case. The uncertainty, combined with reports of potential policy changes affecting visa holders and students, has caused me significant stress, frustration, and instability in my personal life. At this point, I genuinely do not understand what is happening with my case and remain concerned about my future and immigration status.

I-130/I-485 Concurrent Filing Question this July

Hi everyone,

I plan to file Form I-130, Form I-485, and Form I-765 (EAD) concurrently under the F2A category this July. My husband is a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder).

Since I understand that I cannot file this package online, I will need to submit everything by mail.

Are there any good guides or checklists for preparing a marriage-based AOS package? Specifically, I'm looking for:

  • How to organize the application packet
  • A checklist of all required forms and supporting documents
  • What evidence of a bona fide marriage I should include
  • Any tips to avoid common mistakes when filing

For reference, I am currently in my first year of F-1 OPT and have maintained my status.

I would really appreciate any advice or sample cover letters/checklists from people who have gone through this process.

Timeline Question

F2A - PD March 5, 2024 - Iraq- I-130 Still Pending
Hi everyone,
My spouse is a green card holder and filed an I-130 for me under F2A .My priority date is March 5, 2024, and the I-130 is still pending.
I'm trying to compare timelines with others who have similar priority dates, especially applicants from Iraq doing consular processing.
If your PD is in 2024:
Has your I-130 been approved yet?
What is your priority date?
Which service center is handling your case?
How long have you been waiting?
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar timeline. Thank you!

Chicago FO Marriage Interview - Uploaded Requested Evidence, Still Waiting

Looking for opinions from people who’ve had similar experiences.
Category: F2A (Spouse of LPR)
PD: March 28, 2024
I-485 Filed: Sept. 9, 2024
Field Office: Chicago
Interview was on June 12, 2026.
The interview went smoothly. The officer didn’t question our relationship or mention any issues. She noticed my attorney had uploaded only about 2 months of joint bank statements, even though we had older joint financial records. I showed her the older statements during the interview, explained the situation, and showed that I had previously sent those documents to my attorney.
She asked us to upload:
Additional joint financial statements
Our 54-page photo packet
She specifically asked us to upload everything the same day, which we did. She also said not to upload hundreds of documents and told us not to worry.
It’s now been about 2 weeks:
No approval
No RFE
No NOID
I-130: Case Is Being Actively Reviewed
I-485: Interview Was Scheduled
Has anyone had a similar post-interview experience? How long did it take to receive a decision after uploading the requested evidence?
