Does UTS library take non-fiction books?

So i moved to a smaller place and there’s literally no space for my books. They’re nonfiction so i can’t find places where they accept them as most prefer fiction. I was wondering if anyone here knows if the library takes nonfiction books. They are in very good condition.

Online Classes

I need to work whilst in university so I'm trying to have as little in person classes as possible since its over a 1 hour commute and if I'm late at work I could lose my job. If I choose some online classes, will I have to attend them live or can I watch recordings? For example mathematics 2 has online classes for workshops 1 and 2. Does the fact that they are online (but workshop 3 isn't online) imply that they'll be recorded and live attendance isn't necessary?

Or is this just something I shouldn't be asking reddit and should just instead email coordinators?

Seeking Advice on managing full-time Work and full-time Study

Hiiii hiiiiii, I’m a final year Data Engineering student and I’ve just accepted a full-time Engineering role that starts during my final semester.

I’m a bit worried about balancing a full-time job with a full-time study load.

Has anyone here worked full-time while completing semester?

How did you manage your time, stay on top of assignments, and avoid burning out?

I’m currently sitting on a WAM of 92, and I’d really like to maintain it while also performing well in my new role. I know it won’t be easy, so I’d love to hear any advice or strategies that worked for you.

Also, does UTS offer any support or flexibility for students in this situation? 😅😅😅😅

JD admissions

I’m looking at applying for a JD after graduating with a BA OF ARTS from Macquarie. What was the process like for everyone and if you’re comfortable what marks did you get for entry.

Who’s above a Subject Coordinator I can escalate to?

We had some group assignments for CITP. Two members did basically nothing, one just dumped in unedited ChatGPT text. The rest of us rewrote the whole website ourselves the night before the submission deadline, including their parts.

Our tutor told the whole group that after we rated them low on the Week 11 Spark (peer assessment), the non-contributors' marks would be redistributed to those who contributed. Our whole group collectively rated them as non-contributors, so there’s no way the automatic adjustment was actually applied, yet they still got the exact same website mark as us.

Raised it with the Subject Coordinator, who wasn't helpful even after providing screenshots of call logs and messages and just said to fill in a Review of Results form (warning my mark could even go down). He also said the outcome would be the non-contributors getting a zero, with our marks not increasing at all, which directly contradicts what the tutor told the whole group. I sent a follow-up email pointing this out and he hasn't responded, and it doesn't look like he'll be much help.

The whole point of SparkPlus is to stop non-contributors taking advantage of other people's work. Now they want me to fill in a form to get the outcome the tool was supposed to deliver in the first place? It's unfair, the tutor told us our marks would scale up off the marks the non-contributors were meant to lose, and now none of that has happened.

Is there someone higher than the Subject Coordinator I can escalate this to?

Grade/ feedback not released on Canvas?

Hi,

I received my feedback/grade for 3/4 of my final assignments on Canvas, but I have not received this (I can see my results via MyStudentAdmin so I can figure it out, but I'd like to see the actual grade and feedback) for one of my assignments (Experimental Media). Does anyone know when this will be released?
Thanks so much.

UTS WAM Rounding and Distinction Graduation Question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about UTS WAM and graduation with Distinction.

I recently completed my Bachelor of Business, and after my final results my WAM is 74.94 with a GPA of 5.69.

One of my assessment marks is currently being increased by the subject coordinator, so my final subject mark and WAM will be updated soon. I'm trying to understand how UTS calculates and rounds final marks.

Does anyone know:

- Does UTS use the exact decimal marks for assessments when calculating the final subject mark, or are assessments rounded first?

- Are final subject marks rounded to whole numbers?

- Is the final WAM calculated using hidden decimal places, or only the rounded subject marks?

- If my updated WAM ends up at something like 74.99, would I still graduate with a Distinction, or does it have to be 75.00 or above with no exceptions?

If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows the official UTS policy, I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Fun but budget friendly things to do in Sydney before classes start

Landing in Sydney next week so I have roughly 2 weeks before orientation & classes start. Need recommendations from locals and fellow students for places to visit, and eat since I don't want to go broke before uni even starts lol.

I've seen a few recommendations on instagram, but does anyone have any itinerary or plans that could help me?

Fyi, I've already done the ferry from circular quay to manly beach, and those tourist bus tours when I visited back in 2024, so now I'd like to do more interesting stuff and find hidden gems if possible while still saving money :D

Why does UTS suck

So pretty much the software engineering handbook had advertised software design studio for the past 3 years while it hasn’t even been running which I had just found out, now I thought they were just slow with allowing us to enrol on my student admin but actually the subject just doesn’t exist, yet it’s still there so I was late to enrolling in my 4th subject and now all the options I was thinking of are full so I will now have to submit an e request which will probably take up until the semester has started knowing how everything works.

Got 0% despite approved Special Consideration

Hey everyone,
I recently got my result back for one of my subjects and ended up failing because I received a 0 for the final exam. The exam was a non-invigilated take-home essay with a 3 hour window.

During the exam I had internet issues that caused my submission to be late, and I missed the Canvas submission window, so I applied for Special Consideration. I gave them all relevant screenshots/reports needed. My application was approved and said “The circumstances have been noted and will be taken into account”, which is why I’m confused about the result.

Is it possible they:
-forgot to consider my Special Consideration?

- Or did they take it into account and still decide it wasn’t enough, which is why I got the 0?

-I’m also wondering if it’s possible they think I cheated or something, although I haven’t received any email about a misconduct and my marks weren’t witheld.

I haven’t contacted the subject coordinator yet, so I’m just wondering what my next steps should be and whether anyone has had a similar experience.

Thanks!

Engineering WAM good?

Hello everyone,

I just completed my first semester at UTS in Civil Engineering (Construction). I got a WAM of 75 and 5.75GPA.

Is this a good WAM for me to get internships or just In general.

If I wanted to change to like Law at Maq or UTS would I be able to have a shot with this WAM?

Internship without doing internship elective

First year communications student trying to get as much experience as possible. I got a media intern role at an independent music label (so pretty laxed) and the hiring manager said she will let my uni know.
I’m not taking the 52714 professional internship elective this semester and would rather save that for later in my studies when workload is more intense and I take on a more serious internship. Thus, will UTS be a confused on why I’m doing an internship? Will it affect anything?

I haven’t told my internship hiring manager I’m a first year and not enrolled in an internship unit 🙃

Has anyone transferred from UTS Business to USYD/UNSW Commerce with around 76 WAM?

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student at UTS studying Bachelor of Business. I applied to transfer to USYD Bachelor of Commerce for Semester 2, 2026.

I’ve completed 48cp at UTS with a WAM of 76.50. I originally received a conditional offer from USYD, but my agent told me that USYD may have assessed my previous tertiary studies as not meeting the required GPA/WAM standard for BCom.

I’m a bit confused because I’ve heard that a 75+ WAM can be competitive for transfer, but I understand this may depend on the course, intake, availability, and whether the applicant is domestic/international or internal/external.

Before studying at UTS, I also completed a Bachelor of Business Administration through Korea’s Academic Credit Bank System, with 154 credits completed and an overall score of 85.77/100. I’m not sure how much weight USYD gives to this compared with my UTS results.

Has anyone transferred externally into USYD BCom from UTS or another Australian university with a similar WAM? Is 76.5 usually considered competitive, or is USYD BCom stricter than that now?

Also, would it be worth asking USYD for reassessment after the official transcript is uploaded, or asking for an alternative pathway/course? I’m also considering UNSW BCom as another option.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
