Swiss Domiciled Account for Non-EU Non-Resident

Hey everyone,

I was recently admitted to a Master’s program in Informatics at UZH and will be moving there soon. I am a non-EU/EFTA citizen and currently a non-resident.

I’m trying to figure out the logistics of setting up a bank account. I know Switzerland is strict and usually requires a physical residence permit to open an account. However, I need the bank account to request my residence(chicken and egg problem).

Ideally, I'd like to have an account or a valid Swiss IBAN set up as early as possible to handle the visa bureaucracy.

  • Has anyone here managed to open a valid Swiss Domiciled Account from a similar situation?
  • Do you know any banks that accept that request and do not ask for 10 million CHF to open a private banking account? I just want to have my account with the 21'000 CHF and move on with it.

Any advice, tips, or specific bank recommendations for a non-EU resident+citizen would be super helpful.
Thank you!

Giveaway while traveling: Flat near lake on Goldküste for 5 weeks, starting June 1st

Hey everyone - I'm leaving for 5 weeks starting June 1st and it feels like a waste to let my flat sit empty during this time. I failed finding someone to sub-let for that period so I thought lets do someone a favour and give it away for that time - this is what this is about.

I do have preferences: I need to be able to trust you - get to know you a bit before we hand over the keys and, maybe lets do a 500-1k chf Kaution and formal sub-letting contract for the period (although price set to 0 chf) - how does that sound?

Also, my top priority goes to people who can profit most from it -

Priority 1) people in stressful life circumstances where this would offer relief:

- e.g. people with low income that could need a break / tiny vaccation

- caretakers of people in need (family friends whoever) that need a break themselves

- people in the education process that e.g. have to commute long or are doing an internship but didnt find a room nearby, or students who need a break from WG-life.

- Also prefer students who get a stipendium due to low income of parents (also if you read this and are unsure - pls check e.g. stipendium.ch)

Priority 2) people who would genuinely have a good time, recharge their batteries (dont use too much power though please, lol) e.g.:

- just a change of place of living for a month

- hobbies align with local offerings

- a way to get capacity to do smth good for others (e.g. volunteering work)

About the flat:

65 qm - living room kitchen combined, bedroom & homeoffice separately

4th floor, top floor of building, renovated in 2019

3min to public park with lake access (literally across the street)

5min to coop / migros & Bahnhof

15 min to Zurich HB with S-Bahn, 12 minutes to Stadelhofen

lake view from the balcony

free gym membership - 2min walk - we have arm-bracelets, I'll leave it here so you can use the gym as well, comes with sauna

Living room / kitchen, Balcony with lake view

Anything else?

Did I miss something? If you read this and think "omg this is a horrible idea because xyz" please tell me! :)

How to apply & whats next

make a comment why you should get it or if you know someone why they should (why person / couple / family X would be helped with this) - (if its private stuff pls just DM me) - I'll consider all posts next week & take contact with someone from there!

if anything comes to mind as well - please let me know too!

UZH AI masters : employability, big tech

I have been admitted to AI masters @ UZH and also I was admitted to CS at TUM (Technical University of Munich). I had this thought for a while that although I love Zurich and Switzerland overall and my current goal is to go there and stay there afterwards ( fully relocate), going to UZH would decrease my chances over graduates from ETH and EPFL. Maybe by choosing to go to TUM although I dont want to as my gf will be in Switzerland and also I adore the city and my primary goal is to relocate there , maybe I would have better chances for later in life? Are there people who got into big tech or quants or just had a great job opportunity as a EU after graduation from masters in Informatics at UZH?

Numerus Clausus

Danke :))

EMS with A-Levels

Hello, I would like to study human medicine at UZH. For this I would have to take the EMS (Numerus Clausus), which takes place in July every year. However, I only receive my official A-Level results in August. Can I still take the exam, without having received my grades yet? Can I register for the test based on expected grades?

I am Swiss and have completed the Oberstufe. I am now studying at an International school.
