Ersti Jus: Fragen zu Latein, Anwesenheitspflicht, Vorlesungen vor der STEOP und Tipps (Deutsch und English)?

Hallo zusammen!

English:
Hello everyone! I am starting my Law degree at Uni Wien this semester. I'm currently figuring out some organizational stuff and have a few questions. First, regarding Latin: I registered for the two preparatory courses in September, and I'd like to know if there are exams right after them, how many attempts you get for these supplementary exams, and how this academic requirement works in general. Also, I'm wondering how strict the attendance policy is. Can you miss classes for important personal reasons, do you need to report it in advance, and what are the limits? I'd also be interested to know what things one should generally avoid or definitely do during the studies. Regarding the time before STEOP, I read that in the 1st semester I can already attend lectures like Legal History (Private and Constitutional Law) and Roman Foundations. Is it worth doing this, or should I dedicate my first semester 100% to the STEOP? Should I make a lot during first 2 semester(in Curriculum i got like 4-5 moduls for a year, if I am not mistaken) Last but not least: is there a general freshman group (WhatsApp/Telegram) I can join to connect with others? I'd appreciate any tips!

Anyone still waiting for Uni Wien Winter Semester 2026 admission results?

Hi everyone!

I applied for the Master’s in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Vienna for the Winter Semester 2026, but I still haven’t received a decision.

My application status on uspace is still showing as “Submitted”, and it hasn’t changed to “In Process” yet.

Is anyone else in the same situation? Especially those who applied around late June — have you received your admission decision yet, or are you still waiting?

Thanks :)

STEOP lectures for IBWL — streams, recordings, and hall capacity?

Hi everyone! 💕 I just got admitted to IBWL at Uni Wien (so excited!), and I have a quick question for current students!

I know attendance for STEOP lectures isn't mandatory, but I’m planning a short trip during the semester and really don't want to miss out on any info.

Is it true that STEOP lectures are live-streamed, or is that just a myth? And are they usually recorded and uploaded to Moodle afterwards?

Also, I noticed that around 1000 people can register for a single course, but the lecture hall only fits about 400 people. How does that actually work in practice? Do most people just stay home and watch the streams, or is it hard to get a seat?

Would super appreciate any advice from anyone who’s been through STEOP! Thank you so much in advance! 🌸

Zulassung von Uni Wien

Hi everyone! I’m a non-EU student and I applied for the Winter Semester 2026 at both Uni Wien and Uni Graz. I already have a Goethe B2 certificate and I’m planning to take a German preparatory course before starting my degree.

So far, I haven’t received any notification or admission decision from either university. Has anyone else applied around June/July and already received a decision from Uni Wien or Uni Graz?

Just wondering if they’ve started sending out decisions for non-EU applicants yet. 🥹

Thank you!

Incoming MSc Physics Students - Group Chat / Discord?

Hi everyone,

I recently got accepted into the Master's in Physics program and am currently navigating the enrollment process.

Does anyone know if there is an existing group (Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.) for incoming students to exchange information and help each other out?

Master Banking and Finance Karrierechancen & Aussichten?

Hallo zusammen,

English version: -----------------------

Hello everyone,

I’m thinking about doing the Master’s in Banking and Finance at the University of Vienna and would like to hear your opinions on the program and career prospects. Even though there are supposedly 267 students, I could hardly find any of you on LinkedIn, lol.

Background: I’m currently studying for a Master’s in Finance and Accounting at WU, but I find the finance component rather weak. I originally wanted to do the Quantitative Finance Master’s but was rejected. In terms of curriculum, the MBF at the University of Vienna seems very similar to the QF Master’s. My goal is asset management.

So, my question for alumni and current students is: what were your experiences like, and what do job prospects look like after graduation or even during your studies (internships)?

Late admission to VWU

On June 25 I applied for bachelor program without entrance examination and provided ÖSD A2 Level certificate of German, so I knew i would need to go to VWU in case I get accepted. I still have not got admission letter, however deadline for applying for VWU is August 13, and last day of placement German test is August 17. I am currently not in Austria, but I already have residence permit, so I won’t need to get visa.

I am worried that I will be admitted too late and will have to take placement test on an unknown date, so I don’t know when to buy ticket and when to come in general. Additionally, in case I don’t get the place in VWU this semester, I would need to learn German on my own to start studying in summer semester cause I don’t want to loose the whole year. Anyway, is anyone having the same problem right now or had before, could you please share your experience?

EC mit study@home?

Hallo zusammen!

Bachelor of Mathematics Admission

Hello, I applied for bachelor of mathematics a month ago and I uploaded all of my documents. Then I received an email saying that I missed a document so I have to send it to them. It was also said that later I'll receive a confirmation email in a couple of days.

"Send us the JPG or PNG file within a week in response to this message. If everything is available, you will be provisionally admitted to your studies. Processing may take a few days. You will then receive a confirmation with your matriculation number and information on how to proceed by e-mail."

However, its been a month and I still haven’t received one. About 2 weeks ago i sent an email asking if my application process has been done and what should my next step be. They said that they reply in 10 days, but they still haven’t.

And if anyone is wondering I live in Austria but I am non-EU. I just wanted to know what I should do now. Will I get a response before September? Should I pay the tuition? If so how?

I checked ServiceDesk and it says that my request (where I had to send my document) is closed, but I don’t know if I should wait for the confirmation email or not?

Vorkenntnisse und Uniwahl für B.Sc. Physik

Hallo zusammen,

Waiting for application results, anyone else?

Hello, I applied for the Bachelor's degree in Musicology on July 7th, and I'm still waiting for results. Does anyone have a timeline idea of when acceptances will roll out? If it helps, I'm an EU citizen (Italy) and applied to the program with that passport, but I currently reside in the US and have a US passport as well. Would that possibly change anything? And if anyone knows whether I should reach out about this or not, thank you.
