Admission to masters program

Hi! I’m a bachelors microbiology student applying for the microbiome science master program at uni vienna and I recieved an email that says:

“The selection committee of the master programme you have applied for has made a decision and allocated the study places for the following academic year. If you submit your higher education degree certificate and final transcript/diploma supplement no later than by the deadline specified in the attached document (30th of September 2026), you can finish the admission procedure”.

Does this mean that I have a reserved space in the programe until the end of the deadline? I still haven't finished my bachelor's programe and will recieve my diploma in June, so I will only be able to complete my application then and am worried of losing my space in the programe…

Thanks for help :)

MA English Language and Linguistics / Anglistik - is it worth it?

hi guys! I'm currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in English and American Studies, and I'm feeling a bit indecisive: I wanted to pursue the master's in English Language and Linguistics after my bachelor's degree. However, I haven't met anyone who is currently enrolled in the program or who has already completed it, so I wanted to ask whether anyone would be willing to share their experience? I'm mostly concerned about the workload and the overall "payoff" of the degree. Is it worth it? Did you have a positive experience, or was it troublesome? If anyone has done their bachelor's degree at this department too I'd love to know if your experience has become more positive during the master's, and if it was more challenging?

I feel like the bachelor's degree was already quite demanding as is, and I'm aware that this degree may not be as highly sought after in the job market as others. However, I'm also a bit disappointed that my skills, especially my spoken English, haven't really improved as much as I had hoped during this bachelor's degree. I expect the master's to go way more into detail in linguistics, but I also want to improve my overall research and communication skills. If anyone could share some insights, I'd be very grateful.

Just as a side note: I aspire to work in the field of linguistics, however, looking at the job market, I'm not certain I will find a job easily, which is why I'm going for two masters degrees in separate fields, most likely communication science or sociology.

Moving to Vienna for Masters — Residence Permit Questions

Hi!! I recently got an admission offer from the University of Vienna and I’m already in the process of preparing the requirements for my residence permit. For context, I live in the Philippines.

I already have the list of documents I need to gather, but I’m still a bit confused about a few things:

  1. Do I still need to have my passport apostilled, or is it only my birth certificate and NBI/police clearance that need an apostille?

  2. Do I need German translations for all my documents even if they’re already in English?

Would really appreciate any help or advice from people who’ve gone through the same process. Thank you!!

Zweitstudium?

BSc Mathematical Foundations of Data Science – Application Status Updates?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to check in with other applicants for the BSc in Mathematical Foundations of Data Science.

Has anyone’s application status changed recently? Also, has anyone received a conditional offer letter yet?

If yes, could you also mention when you applied and when you received the update?

Thanks!

Neuroscience MSc -- What is going on (with the status of my documents)? Is this normal?

Hi, r/Uniwien,

I'm a prospective international (non-EU) student that applied for the Neuroscience master's program for the winter 26/27 semester at the University of Vienna.

Applications closed on 04.07 (April 7th) and I received only one amendment request for my passport, which I provided on 04.05 (April 5th).

Since then, it's been radio silence. Checking my application documents, it's shocking to me that only two (!!!) of my documents have been "Approved", while others are still showing "Upload confirmed" or "Registered".

Documents' status - only two have been approved

I even e-mailed the program coordinator last week to ask when admissions decisions will be made and this was his response:

*"*Dear wildtots,

we expect the selection panel to make their decision around the mid of May. As soon as there will be any decision made, you will be informed via e-mail.

Kind regards,

Thomas Kienegger"

So, guys, is this normal? We're already in the "mid of May", yet I only have two documents approved and my overall application status shows, "In process".

Some Q’s about MSc at UWien

Hi everyone,

I’m a current student who will finish up a Physics degree in New Zealand soon and am looking at doing a masters at the university of Vienna, but I had a few questions for you guys before I go ahead and talk to the admin:

- How is the social life? Lots of things to do?

- Can I really get into a MSc with only a bachelors degree (3 years, which graduates you in NZ)? No GPA cutoffs? I have a messed up GPA due to some family things that occurred in the past few years but have quite good grades as of recent (2 semesters)

- Anyone in Physics willing to give opinions on the courses/department? Tips?

Thank you everyone!! I really like the idea of going to Vienna but am curious as to experience.

Moving to Vienna for PhD - need advice on accommodation and visa process

Hi everyone,

I recently received a tentative PhD offer at the University of Vienna starting around September 1st, and I’m an international student coming from India. I need to arrange accommodation before applying for my visa, but I’m completely new to the process in Austria and honestly a bit overwhelmed.

I would really appreciate advice regarding:

  1. student dorms or affordable accommodation options
  2. which websites are trustworthy
  3. areas that are convenient for University of Vienna
  4. how early I should book accommodation
  5. visa-related accommodation requirements

Any suggestions or personal experiences would really help. Thank you!

Studie zur Intelligenz und Risikobereitschaft

Hallo Leute!

hi! I‘m preparing to apply for this major (summer intake 2027). I plan to take master program. My bachelor degree is in English Language and Literature. I had several classes in Media Studies, Feminism and PR. I come from Non-EU. But my uni is top 3 in my country and is a big uni. But I doubt if I can admitted because of my major. Even though during my bachelor study I actively involved 3 years in Journalism student organisation. My question is

  1. Is there someone with this bachelor background accepted?
  2. I worked as content writer and marketing intern but not so much related to communication science. Mostly about making content for social media and writing for website. Should I just take bachelor in more promising prospective in job market such as International Businnes Administration or Accountant?

MFDS non degree sudent

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the non-degree option at the University of Vienna.

I am applying for the Bachelor’s programme Mathematical Foundations of Data Science, but I may need additional time to obtain the required English certificate. Because of this, I am looking into the possibility of enrolling first as a non-degree student under “attending courses out of interest / attending individual courses”, while preparing the language certificate and possibly taking courses at the Language Center.

Has anyone here actually done something similar at the University of Vienna?
For example:

  • enrolling as a non-degree student first,
  • attending language courses during that time,
  • and then later moving into a regular degree programme.

If you have personal experience with this, I would be very grateful if you could share it or send me a message.

Thank you!

Hallo zusammen, kurz paar Fragen:
