Changing residency from OOS to in-state

Hi guys I'm planning on applying for a residency change and wanted to know if other first years have been able to get the change for their second year. Paying +80k a year is just not feasible anymore. I've been told it's notoriously difficult because the registrar has no incentive to approve the change. Please let me know if you've been successful (or not) so I don't lose hope.

Transferring from a CSU to a UC

Hi, I’m currently a computer science major at Cal Poly Pomona and I just finished my freshman year. I’m thinking about transferring to a UC. I researched a little and found that the transferring process is very much made for community college students and that it’s a lot more difficult to compare classes from CSUs to UC classes and I’m just generally kind of confused about how this process of transferring into a UC from a CSU works. I was wondering if anyone here has been through this process or a similar one and has any input or advice that can help me understand this better and maybe make better decisions in the next year towards junior year in case I actually decide I want to transfer?

UCSD or ASU Barrett (full tuition)

As the title says, I'm quite conflicted on what to do. I originally committed to ASU Barrett (in state), and got into the NGSC Program for CS. This gives me full tuition for all four years and allows me to be a part of this organization, which makes people work in teams on projects along with trips for bonding experiences. I still pay for dorm and room, but I don't pay tuition. If I attend here I planned to do the CS on AI track, which is pretty new, but I'm not able to minor in Electrical Engineering.

I ended up getting off the waitlist today for UCSD for CS in the Muir College, and get no aid, so it would be oos tuition for the four years. I'm not sure how the scholarships are at UCSD for either this year or future years as an out of state student. I've heard you can minor in electrical engineering, but I'm not sure how hard that would be.

I would really appreciate any perspectives on this, as well as some perspectives on the value of the degree from both, and if its worth investing in a CS degree. Money is a consideration, but not the main factor, if that makes sense. I'm honestly just really worried about getting an internship and job placement.

UCSF HR - Same Job, Different Expectations: UCSF HR’s RTO Approach Is Eroding Trust

Working at UCSF HR has gone from something that once felt meaningful and energizing to something many people now dread, and a lot of it comes down to inconsistent leadership and inequitable expectations. The return-to-office rollout especially exposed how disconnected leadership is from the day-to-day reality of the work. People with the same jobs and responsibilities are being held to completely different standards — some employees are expected onsite most of the week and are being told they will be performance managed if they do not comply, while others have exceptions or remain largely remote. It has created a culture that feels unfair, inconsistent, and increasingly toxic.

What makes it more frustrating is that many employees who are onsite spend most of the day alone on Zoom calls anyway, so it’s hard to understand what problem is actually being solved. At the same time, HR functions at UCSF feel fragmented and poorly coordinated, with strained relationships between teams and very little accountability when issues are escalated. Employees continue raising concerns about workload, operations, and morale, but there’s a growing feeling that leadership either does not understand the impact or chooses not to address it. The result is declining morale, disengagement, lower productivity, and people who once cared deeply about the organization now questioning whether they want to stay.

I was granted enrollment deferral until Fall 2027 but I’m scared my spot will be gone

I was accepted to UCLA as a transfer and was granted the option by admissions to defer my enrollment until Fall 2027 due to health circumstances. This was always my ideal scenario as UCLA is my dream school, but I realistically cannot begin school in Fall 2026. However, the fact that there is no explicit “you are guaranteed admission in Fall 2027” statement on UCLA’s deferment page, email confirmation to me, or PDF document explaining the deferment terms that was sent to me, is throwing me off; this coupled with the fact that I have to resubmit an application is extra terrifying.

I have until this Thursday to decide if I am going to accept the deferment terms or not as opposed to June 1st for regular accepted students. Have any of you deferred enrollment before? Should I go through without second thought, or is there a chance I will not have a spot Fall 2027? I have a feeling I’m overthinking😭but the lack of info/discussion about enrollment deferral due to how uncommon it is, is only exacerbating my fears.

I know this is a question for admissions but I just found out last night so I wouldn’t even hear anything from them until Monday lol. Any information/advice helps!!

SB vs LA vs Merced, data science

So I got accepted into 3 UC’s for Stats and Data Science. Merced, Santa Barbra and LA. And I don’t know which to choose.
What are the programs like?
I’d like to work business data analytics but I’m also not opposed to hard research in statistics. I’d like the chance to explore both.
Any insight into how to choose colleges in general would also be appreciated.
