Family housing situation question

Hi! Me and my husband are planning to attend the fall term as he is going for his graduate degree. Currently live out of state. We applied as soon as it let us for family housing . I believe we applied for 5 places that we could afford from the list. We set the move in for August 10th as well so im just wondering if we would had a good chance to get in and or maybe when we could hear back? Should we call and ask general question? When would we need to be considering about finding other housing ? I know that family's and grad student have more priority but it is just me and my husband no kids . General thoughts would be great too! We have money saved at least until he gets a student loan to cover housing but I doubt I can apply for housing earlier then August with a approved student loan and cosign from my family. Tell we can find jobs in Eugene anyways.

English PhD question

Hi!
I’m wanting to apply for a PhD in English at U of O, and I wondered if any of you had any tips? Or any PhD programs for that matter.

How did you get in? Was it difficult? Do you have any advice?

How do you like it? Is it enjoyable and do you like the people you work for/with?

Please respond if you have because I don’t know anyone who goes there because I’m not from Oregon but I desperately want to get in.
Thank you :)

Apartment sublet-Urgent

I need someone to take over my lease for the upcoming year(Sep 2026- Aug 2027). Originally, I was going to be living at the apartments but I’m switching schools so I’m not coming back to Eugene next fall. It’s 855 a month that includes water, waste, wifi, electricity, etc. For convenience, washer and dryer are in unit. it’s 4 bedroom 2 bathroom(the room you will get is the big one off to right in the pic, the room shown is just the normal demo one) and very nice for something that’s relatively cheap than most apartments in Eugene. Anyways, message me if interested or have further questions. I have before August to find someone so the sooner the better. Also you don’t need to be a student for these apartments. Here’s the website to see further pics https://www.arenadistrictapts.com

Townhouse Apartment for Rent ($1500 a month for two bedrooms)

I just graduated from the University of Oregon but resigned my year lease cause I was planning on staying. Plans have changed though and my roommate and I have to break my lease in August and to avoid having to continue paying rent (even after paying an extra two months) my landlord said I should try finding someone to take it off my hands. It's a two story, two bedroom, one and a half bathroom townhouse apartment with a dedicated parking spot and a Safeway right across the street. Here's the link so you can see pictures and the layout, let me know if you're interested. https://www.apartments.com/1850-high-st-eugene-or/1q5gg64/

How can I get into college?

My first two years of high school are decent, I had a 3.3 and have been in several honors and AP courses, but my sophomore year I had a big personal setback where I ended up working a lot and missing tons of school/not putting in very much effort academically, dropping me to a 2.68. The three universities I’m looking at are OSU, UofO, and Western oregon. All three typically require a 3.0 minimum GPA. After my senior year I would meet that requirement, but my applications wouldn’t be able to show that. Due to my situation I’m not able to take a gap year and I recently had a conversation with my friends family that was a real wake up call about why I need to go to a college out of my city.

UofO is my first choice and if anyone has a similar story or knows anyone who could possibly help please share!

I was trying to keep this post not to detailed but i’m open to any and all questions about myself and academics. Please, if you have any advice, and college person I could reach out to, please share.
I really need to someone to hold my hand and help me through this— thank you!!

Graduation Photos?

Has anyone who graduated in June been able to find the photos that were taken during the ceremony? I looked on the website and there’s a link to gradimages.com, but when I search my name and college nothing comes up. Not sure if it’s just me.

UofO staff roles

What is the typical turnaround time for hearing about your application? My status was updated last week to under review, but applications were due back in mid-May.

Does it take 2-3 months for non-teaching roles to be filled?

Having a hard time finding a place to land in the Eugene Springfield area.

Hey everyone!

I’m moving to the Eugene/Springfield area soon and wanted to get some advice on where to settle.

I posted the other day on this forum and I drove through a couple of days ago, and while I love the trees, I also felt kind of claustrophobic and sadly a little discouraged. I felt like the places where I looked were really rundown and they were up to like 1750. I’m trying to live somewhat near a shopping center—not right at the doorstep, but close—so there’s more foot traffic and activity.

My budget is ideally around $1,750 or $1,800, but I can stretch up to $2,000 if needed. I don’t necessarily need a two-bedroom, but I do want a space that’s bigger than a tiny 500 sq. ft. unit. I was thinking about areas like South or Southwest Eugene, or maybe the north end of Springfield.

I’d really appreciate any tips on newer townhomes or apartments in that range near shopping hubs like Valley River Center, Oakway Center, or The Shoppes at Gateway. I’m heading back to Eugene on Tuesday to tour some places, so any advice would be super helpful! Thanks so much!

Missing book draft

Im beside myself. I work in the EMU and about an hour ago, my yellow jottbook with a big duck sticker on front disappeared from my workspace. Its pretty public and anyone could have taken it. I finally started drafting out a really personal writing project in it and dont have it backed up ANYWHERE. Not even a little. I know I shouldnt have left it out, but really only employees go where my book was, and I guess I thought people wouldnt care. They left my powerbank which was on top of it, too. Im so sad. Idk how ill finish my shift knowing someone in my building is reading all my personal thoughts, ones ill likely never get back in full capacity because frankly my brain is shit, and I dont even know who. If anyone sees it, PLEASE help me get it back. It meant so freakin much to me..

Dorm questions

Hi everybody!! I'm an incoming freshman this fall, and starting to put my list together for dorm shopping. My roommate and I are hoping for a room in Unthank and I'm curious about any necessities and how the rooms, in unthank or otherwise, are overall. Like do I really need an air purifier, or is the air okay? (I have no idea if that's a stupid question haha.) Anything like that and if anyone has some recommendations of things they ended up needing at Oregon. I'm trying to wait to buy anything until we get our room assignment so suggestions are welcome!

Incoming international graduate student with a few housing and budgeting questions

Hi I am an incoming graduate student this fall. I am from a country in Asia and never been to Eugene and USA. Thanks to the school’s website and housing listings, I could barely understand how many options I have now. But still some things are difficult for me to make a decision. May I ask advice?

  1. Some shared apartments are listed as pet-friendly and have four bedrooms and four bathrooms shared by four students. Is it common for students to bring their dogs or cats into these shared apartments?

  2. In my home country, rent is usually paid after living in the apartment for a month. For example, if I move in on June 2, I would pay my first rent on July 1. Is rent in the U.S. usually paid the same way, or is it paid in advance?

  3. Roughly how much does a graduate student spend per month on everyday expenses? The approximate annual budget is on the school’s website, but honestly I cannot make a grasp on it.

Thank you very much for your help… I am really looking forward to moving to Eugene and studying at the University of Oregon. I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life in such a wonderful city.
