My sandstorm team absolutely sucks, how can I fix it, or does it need a complete makeover?

So I wanted to make a sandstorm team just because I noticed how many pokemon seemed incredible in it, almost too many, the problem with a lot of them, is that they share the same weaknesses, and barely allow for coverage for water and grass, arguably the worst weakness they have.

I’m thinking mega garchomp just isn’t worth it at all, and I might replace it with mega glim or lucario

Another thing, I want this team to have usage in both double AND singles, but in singles it’s absolutely atrocious, I just don’t know how to build a singles team, doubles i can work with, but how the hell do you make a singles team?

Give me suggestions for my team

Hi guys,

First time posting. I finally hit master rank. I am so happy I got to do this with my favourite pokemon mega charizard y (i know it's basic😐 ). But I have always thought mega charizard Y is the coolest looking pokemon. Just wish it got the dragon typing when it came out. I don't like the design of mega charizard x. So I was so happy when I learned mega charizard Y is the most viable pokemon right now competitively.

Any getting off topic. I got to master rank. But it wasn't easy. I kept loosing to so many teams. Can you guys give me any suggestions how to make my team better? I am on a mission to make the best mega charizard y team possible for the current meta. Help me out. Thanks

Hey guys I'm trying to make a team around skeledirge, oranguru and empoleon and I need help!

So I've been taking a tweak at this team I've conjured up. It's a trick room setup team. Kind of. The problem with it is that skeledirge is my favourite starter next to empoleon and I've been trying to use them to the best of my abilities but they keep falling short. The stupid gambit and fish keeps ruining my game and I was hoping to see if you guys have any idea on how to improve his team. I've been trying different Pokémons to fit the fire-water-grass core but none of them fit. You might be wondering where is sinistcha and well, it's an awkward fit. Like really awkward. I don't want to get rid of oranguru but it seems that I have too more and more. Please keep empoleon and skeledirge on this team and keep it as a trick room team. Need help with a solid team.

Pangoro Chimeco team???

I got pangoro and thought he seemed pretty cool so I wanted to build a team around him and ended up building a team around expanding force chimeco (I’ve been wanting to try an expanding force team for a while).

I thought mega Chimeco and pangoro would go good next to each other since chimeco sets up TR for both and covers pangoro’s fighting and fairy weakness while pangoro can cover chimeco’s weakness to dark and ghost type mons

I then added torkoal w/ rockslide to threaten flying and resist fire type mons that threaten pangoro and chimeco respectfully

I then included tinkaton for additional threat into dark and fairy type mons, then end it off with torterra to add additional offensive threat into fire and ground type Pokémon (and the steel, fighting, and fire Pokémon on my team threaten torterra’s ice weakness)

Forgot to mention but meowstic obviously sets up psychic terrain (but I plan to only open w both of my psychic mons if the other team doesn’t have a strong offensive dark or ghost Pokémon that I think they’d open with, otherwise I’d open pangoro)

Is my thinking/team building flawed and is there any better alternatives I could include on the team? Any coverage im missing or holes in my strategy?

help me improve my team 🙏🙏🙏

(doubles btw) just got into master ball 4 and feel like my win rate is stagnating at around 50%. i’m thinking of switching hydreigon to a diff late game sweeper because having both garchomp and hydreigon means that any late game fairy types or ice types absolutely destroy me, and i’ve been running into a lot of unexpected ice punch users 🫪. any suggestions would be super mega appreciated thanks chat ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Mega raichu x team update 9 game win streak!

So I recently decide to update my mega raichu x team and this what I came up and it so much better 😂

Both auroras and heat proof sinestcha though unconventional has work amazing for this team

I just went on 9 game win streak though it definitely could have been 10 or more I just got unlucky with a burn because I let eruption torkal sit on the field to long

That said I could use some help

Anybody got a bulky Basculegion stat

Basculegion is usually my late game closer so I was thinking about dropping off some of its attack cause last respect is so stronk

But I don’t know by how much is the question

I still want it to be a menace but it be nice if it could live some hits

Any help is appreciated and would love to hear people thoughts on the team I cooked up

It very fun but a little hard to pilot but when it goes it goes!

Help me out fam

Recently dropped from top 70.000 (m-ball rank 4) to top 130.000. Idk if it’s cus it’s the beginning of the season and a lot more players are joining or if it’s because of the changes in my team. Rn I’m trying out mega delphox instead of mega char y.

Anyone got any recommendations of team changes? I would gladly discuss with y’all. Let me know if there’s any questions about the team members or which role they play in the team.

I’m usually struggling against sand teams and basculegion but my recent add of samurott has helped with that a lot. Used to have him choice scarfed but idk. I hate when I’m locked into a bad choice. Also used to have sucker punch on him.

It’s fine if y’all roast this team, honestly. Just want some honest feedback on how to improve.

u/rubeneast1 — 2 days ago

Any advice?

Right now whimsicott is giving me trouble. I’m running roar for trick room on aerodactyl so there’s no room for tailwind. I haven’t been using emolga too often so maybe running my own whim is a good idea or talonflame or a choice scarfed non that’s faster that can ohko ? Idk some please help lol. Any advice in general is much appreciated.

u/SouthLengthiness520 — 1 day ago

Rate my team, what can I improve?, other than a lack of protect

I am trying to make a team that can handle almost everything that's thrown on it(not literally everything, but most of the common strategies) with london bridge as core

Haven't played comp this season, but hit masterball 3 with this team last season

Need help building a team around Toxapex and Scovillain but with limits.

Hey guys, Im quite new to Pokemon Champions, started last week. Havnt played any Pokemon in 14 years (last time was pearl/platinum). I dont have all mons yet and personally prefer using not the top top meta mons which you see every match. I do like more special playstyles like Toxapex has. Not a fan of weather teams or brute force speed.

Down below you can see which pokemons I own plus the ones I dont (X) want to use bc they are used very often, I simply dislike them or their playstyle. Idk some pokemon like staraptor even though its strong never felt appealing to me.

Is there any way to build a functional team around Toxapex and Scovillain (for doubles) with my current options? I could try recruiting a few missing pokemon the next days. I honestly dont want to use Charizard or Incineroar. Trying to find a Sableeye at the moment.

I know cybertron has made a toxafex team with Grimmsnarl and Metagross added. Not sure if that works well with Scovillain.

Would appreciate any suggestions, perhaps even a team code to try out. Im still trying to figure everything out. Had a rain and a sand team before but its so unsatisfying.

u/Zinser_ — 2 days ago

any suggetions or changes y'all would do on this team?

so basically my ideia is to have a tailroom team, a team that can work with both forms of speed control, so i searched for some middle-tier speed pokemon that wouldnt be caught in a bad spot in either situation. i would love to hear some clear

Just made it to Doubles Masterball with Mono Ghost

Like title says, I just hit masterball in MB Doubles with a monotype ghost team, this was a really fun challenge and I learnt quite a lot about the game as well as about team building.

Team Report

  • Sableye

Without a shadow of a doubt, the goat of this team, here it behaves like a Grimmsnarl, setting up screens with Light Clay for them to last longer and not care if it goes down, since 8 turns are plenty for a doubles game.

It also has Encore to help support other pokemons, by doing something instead of setting up screens and transforming into a sitting duck.

Most teams have either Will-O-Wisp or Reflect, I have both for a reason. Reflect immediately goes up, protecting from both pokemons if facing against 2 physical sweepers. Will-O-Wisp helps also by further cutting down the attack since Chandelure and Basculegion are not that tanky. It also serves another purpose, it boosts Hex.

  • Chandelure

The main damage dealer of the team. It's mega has a respectable 175 Sp. Atk. and the base form's Flash Fire ability also helps in pivoting against Charizard-Y, Torkoal and Incineroar.

Heat Wave is the main damage dealing attack, boosted by sun when against sun teams or by Flash Fire, but even without any boosts, it being a spread move, helps breaking Focus Sashes and with chip damage. It OHKOs Kingambit and Whimsicott; and does decent damage in general.

Psychic is the coverage move, deals with pesky Mega Staraptors, Toxapexes, Sneaslers and other randoms mons.

Hex is the most interesting move on the team, it does a little less damage that shadow ball, but if the opponent is burned, it hits like a truck.

Examples:
32+ SpA Chandelure-Mega Hex (130 BP) vs. 0 HP / 32 SpD Archaludon: 156-184 (94.5 - 111.5%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO (guaranteed OHKO after burn damage)

32+ SpA Chandelure-Mega Hex (130 BP) vs. 0 HP / 32 SpD Milotic: 103-123 (60.5 - 72.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after burn damage

Which is pretty helpful, specially against rain teams with Archaludon, since rain reduces drastically Heat Wave's damage. With Will-O-Wisp and Matcha Gotcha from Sinistcha, a burn comes more often than not.

  • Basculegion

I love this fish, it doesn't come to every game, but can be quite helpful as a delete button, with Choice Scarf Wave Crash or a late game sweeper with Last Respects.

This set is more standard, but it fits team team quite well, checking some threats.

  • Sinistcha

This set is also quite standard, I use it on a sand team, so I just kept everything as is. It's a hard check against Rain Teams, especially walling Mega Swampert.

Matcha Gotcha needs no introduction, very powerful grass type move, keeps Sinistcha alive.

Rage Powder to offer redirection, which is always helpful since most sweepers are not that tanky, even with double screens set up.

It's also the first and main Trick Room setter of the team.

  • Aegislash

This one was a surprise, it handles way better than I've ever expected, can be very tanky and very strong as well, quite flexible, great pivot, great mon all around.

This is the main fairy check, Iron Head deletes Sylveons, Floettes, Grimmsnarls and even other rock type mons like Aerodactyl and Tyranittar.

Head Smash exists purely to kill Pelipper. It also helps with Chard-Y and other random threats, but the main job is to desintegrate Pelipper. This team struggles a bit against rain, so it's very important to kill Pelipper. The main rain counter is Sinistcha which gets deleted by Hurricane, so Pelipper must die.

Night Slash is the coverage move, helpful against Farigiraf (since it's immune to ghost), Mega Metagross and others.

Aegislash is quite slow, so it can easily tank moves, even super effective moves, before transforming into the damage dealing form, boosting the Atk to 140, because of this, it also behaves well in Trick Room.

  • Runerigus

Definitely takes the prize for underground gem. It's the second Trick Room setter, but it also is a Trick Room sweeper.

Immunity to Intimidate and Body Press, makes it a great counter against Incineroar and Kingambit. Iron Defense boosts, both it's survivability and damage output. Perfect Mega Raichu Y counter, since it's immune to both Zap Cannon and Focus Blast.

It's not comming to every game, but when it does, it can be the difference.

Game Plan

Usually Sableye comes out in the lead to set up screens and set stuff on fire for Hex to do it's magic. Then, it can either start off strong with Basculegion or Chandelure deleting stuff, or save them for a late game sweep. Runerigus and Aegislash are the back up, depending on the enemy team. If it's rain, killing Pelipper is the priority, the Sinistcha can go to work.

Pros

Has no issue against Mega Staraptor since it doesn't let it use Close Combat and Will-O-Wisp can halve it's attack, making it a sitting duck.

Great against sun teams, Mega Chandelure can use the sun to it's advantage and tank Heat Waves from Chard-Y. I haven't found a reliable way to deal with Sleep Powder Venausaur, but it didn't come up as often.

Great in and out of Trick Room. Previous versions of the team struggled against Trick Room, since I had Mega Gengar instead of Chandelure and it was harder to manuvre.

It's not that well known, so a lot of attacks can take the opponent by surprise, especially Aegislash and Runerigus.

Cons

Struggles against rain teams, the only rain check is Sinistcha, who gets deleted by Pelipper. It tanks quite a lot of physical moves, even some Electro Shots. There's not an easy way to delete Archaludon in the rain, since it dampens Heat Wave, Hex is a good alternative, but it requires set up.

Knock Off is quite a common move, this team being all weak to it is unfortunate.

Sucker Punch from Kingambit can also be annoying, since it deals a lot of damage before the team can delete him. At full health and with Reflect up, Chandelure can tank it, but not well.

Runerigus is not that easy to use. It can be quite powerful in the right moments, but it's not that flexible, in the beginning I've had matches were the last two mons were Runerigus and a Ghost Type, so there was nothing I could do.

Aegislash is incredible, but it also takes time to get used to it's mechanic, since the form changes are dependant on the move used, sometimes I have to decide between it living or dealing damage, rarely does both when it's in its Blade Form.

Why?

Well my character looked dripped with the clothes from the battle pass so I wanted to make a team to complement his fashion, first I tried a Mono Poison team, but quickly gave up. Also my name fits. It was also fun to test it in Showdown since some people commented on the team.

Afterthoughts

There were some previous versions of the team that did not mesh well with my style of playing. I tried Mega Gengar since it looks sick and before Champions was out on mobile, I used a Perish Trap team on Showdown which was quite fun, but being so weak to Ground moves was painful, especially with the ammount of Garchomps and Mega Swamperts running around. It was replaced by Basculegion.

I tried Gholdengo instead of Aegislash for the role of fairy killer, but it struggled to stay in the field, since its Sp. Atk. is lowered after a Make It Rain.

TLDR:

Sableye screens, the rest sweeps.

Mega Gyarados/ Metagross (Help me Improve) [Top 1k-2k]

This Team was initially inspired by StarAmiiga https://www.reddit.com/r/VGC/s/yIyMz2hSp3 (I did play this team a good bit)

I’m new to VGC, I’ve only been playing since champions and I’ve been stuck at around top 1k-2k for the past few days.

On StarAmiiga’s post you see a more detailed breakdown of the initial idea and the essential core of the team. I began changing it to the second team you see here with a bulkier MGyarados and the MMetagross instead of MYchu.
This version of the team felt incredibly strong but had some clear kryptonite matchups.

The idea is simple: Metagross and Gyarados cover each other’s weaknesses incredibly well and both pair great with coaching Sneasler as well as Pelipper to either weaken fire or boost Waterfall. Sinistcha worked well with the bulkier Setup oriented version of this team but I’ve been trying to adapt.

The problem is a great weakness to Intimidate, Rain teams with Archaludon can be a pain and Gholdengo.

The first team you see is my current one. It still feels incomplete but the idea of Gyarados/Metagross + Coaching Sneasler feels like it carries sooo much potential. This second team is also a bit more Balance. That’s why Gyarados is squishier now so it doesn’t have to rely on setting up as much.

Short breakdown:

Metagross
Covers Gyaras difficult Staraptor/Ychu/Floette and potentially rain matchups. You can take it into fire teams as long as you take peli. Generally good into Gyaras weaknesses to fighting/fairy.

Gyarados
Is great into many meta threats and again covers Metagross bad matchups really well. You can play it to set up if your opening is good otherwise it’s also very reliable neutral dmg. It’s incredibly naturally bulky and survives most super effective hits. You can bring it non mega for intimidate too and since it’s got good offensive stats it still dishes out dmg.

Sneasler
Great parent for both megas and just Sneasler you know…

Pelipper
I only bring the bird very situationally. Either there is opposing weather I want to disrupt or I’m bringing Metagross into fire types.
This team doesn’t really care to much about Snow but in the common MFroslass team Peli can be a good bring to deal big dmg to MScovillain and not be affected by burn.

Tsareena
Queenly Majesty is obv great against fake outs but Metagross is also vulnerable to sucker so it’s double great here. It generally works well into rain teams, different Blastoise compositions, Dragons and more fighting coverage is always nice for this team! (Archaludon can be a problem)

Kingambit
Its main job is to deter Intimdate users or just benefit greatly from them since this team is very physical. I don’t see a need for Iron Head since I have Metagross and Sneasler for fairy’s. (It’s the newest addition and probably not optimal EV wise)

I don’t see a point in doing a super detailed breakdown since some parts of this team are still a work in progress. (unless someone wants to play this team themselves)

This team is incredibly vulnerable in both team select and in game manoeuvring. But understanding the team I feel like there are potentially very little weaknesses if one pilots it well. Every game I lose I feel like it’s because of a mistake (cocky or missing obvious stuff sometimes) or because I’m not familiar with the enemy team and my brings are a bit scrambled. But ever game feels winnable.

My problem is that I’m quite new to both team building and the vgc so I’m afraid that I’m not capable of piloting this team to its full potential or fully rounding it out properly with the components it requires.
So I ask you veterans for help. 🙏

(I would love to play in ots too so prob no cheese XD)

Got masterball3 excluding the top100 most used pokemons

Every season i try to reach masterball with a different challenge such as only using frogs, monotype teams and so on. This season i excluded the top100 pokemon based on usage from previous season. Rotom Mow never won a game was brought to like 3, but everyone else pulled their weight and im looking forward to climbing in a new way next season! If anyone else like these kind of gimmicks please do send a dm. (Didnt screenshot last night and I fell down to mb4 again due to that)

My Charizard X team that’s been doing pretty well.

This team’s been pretty strong and is helping me climb out of Master Ball hell.

The strategy is revolving around Zard by either setting up Dragon Dances or using Scrafty for Coaching. Sinistcha comes in for added healing and support or allow Zard to get one more DDance or knockout opponents.

The fourth slot usually rotates between Ninetails, Milotic, or Gliscor.

Gliscor - Tailwind setter + Ground and Flying coverage

Miltoic - Intimidate counter + Staraptor counter + Trick Room Counter

Ninetails - Setup Aurora Veil and Blizzard spam.

I do think there’s some tweaks I could make. Maybe an added mega so I don’t always have to rely on Charizard as my goto all the time.

Debería cambiar mi equipo a otro?

Any tweaks you can see?

Hey all I’m currently on a 7 game win streak but it’s the early brackets so I’m waiting on the other foot to drop. Here’s my crew and stat spread.
Here’s my breakdown of why I chose who and their roles:

Slate- favorite Mon and the physical nuke

Chantilly- main Trick room setter and heal/helping hand for Slate

Morganlefey- special attacker/group chip

Enfield- redirection and secondary trick room setter

Hannibal- late game sweeper

Inciniroar- positioning and steel coverage

If you see anything feel free to give critiques and suggestions.
