Best vpn for international streaming? need one that actually works while traveling

looking for the best vpn for international streaming because i travel a lot for work and everything i pay for stops working when i leave the US. i'm based in the US (illinois) but spend a few months a year in europe. netflix, hulu, disney plus, all of it just shows "not available in your region" the second i land somewhere or it shows completely different stuff.

i haven't really used vpns before (only surfshark but want to try different options also) so i don't know where to start. i've heard of expressvpn and nordvpn but honestly no idea which one actually works for streaming in 2026 or if they all just get blocked now. my main concern is that i'll pay for a year subscription and then find out it doesn't work with half the platforms i use. i've read that streaming services are getting better at detecting vpns so i'm worried about paying for something that's already outdated.

i'd be using it on my macbook and my android phone, mostly on hotel wifi. don't need anything crazy, just want to watch my stuff without geo-blocks ruining my evening after a long day of work.

has anyone been traveling recently and found a vpn that reliably works for US streaming from overseas?

Kill-Switch function on Fire TV Stick

There are only few VPN providers to offer a kill-switch function for their app on the Amazon Fire TV Stick.
I have read many reports online stating that the Fire TV Stick's operating system is designed in such a way that this function—even if it exists at the app level—does not work with absolute reliability.

So, my question is: Can IP-leaks not be completely ruled out, even with the kill-switch activated in the app on the Fire TV Stick?

Thank you for your feedback!

How good is Surfshark VPN actually? been using it for a month now

Genuinely curious how good surfshark vpn is compared to what other people are experiencing because I've had mixed results so far. I'm in canada and got it mainly for streaming and general privacy since my ISP got caught logging browsing data last year.

Set it up on my macbook and my iphone 15. connected to a US (chicago) server first to try hulu since it's not available here. worked instantly which surprised me because I expected geo-blocks to catch it. streamed for like 3 hours with zero buffering and the quality stayed in HD the whole time.

Where it got frustrating was the app on iphone. it disconnects randomly when switching between wifi and mobile data. like i'll leave my apartment and the vpn just silently drops without telling me. I only noticed because I checked my IP and it was my real one. happened at least 4 or 5 times in the first two weeks. on the laptop it's been rock solid tho, zero issues there.

The other weird thing is the auto-connect feature. I set it to connect on startup and half the time it picks a random server instead of my preferred one. minor thing but annoying when i open my laptop expecting to be on a US server and i'm connected to for example brazil for some reason lol.

For the price i think it's decent but the iphone issues are making me second guess it. has anyone else had the random disconnects on mobile? and for people who've tried both surfshark and something like expressvpn or proton, how does it actually compare day to day?

is vpn safe for iphone?

I bought new iphone (Iphone 17 pro max) last week and was wondering, is vpn safe for iphone? I don't want to mess up with my new phone right away

I never used vpn on my iphone before and my friend once told me that her iphone got buggy after she downloaded mullvad vpn app on her iphone and started using it. it was like she used the app for about a month and her iphone was opening some apps very slowly, youtube videos wouldn't load, etc. she has Iphone 15 Pro and never had such problems before

she told me that she was having vpn on all the time. maybe that was the reason? after she stopped using vpn, everything was normal again

I am just afraid that vpn is somehow not safe for iphone and that it would cause some damage to my new phone

in your opinion, is vpn safe for iphone or should I avoid it?

MLBB Chaos vpn

Hello, I've been playing chaos on 250 ms. i was told that to get good, Ms. i need to connect to a country near me, which has good ms, but i dont know how to even check for that or which vpn would be good for it especially since i need to pay for a vpn.

Is there a way to get good ms on chaos like my classic rsnked or brawl games without ms and if i am going to need a vpn is there a free one and a guide to know which server would be near my country?

I know there was a rule in the past about vpns but there is no choice but to use it for this gamemode i think

Could somebody explain post quantum encryption?

I read this as some sort of privacy future-proofing function. Is this the correct way to label this feature?

How does that even work? Like how can we even predict the future of technology and how it will treat components🤔

Reads good on paper and in practice though is there any sort of article or something I can read up to learn more of this? Still sort of vague in my eyes though I understand general networking terms

Private DNS means what exactly?

Hey everyone, basic tech/privacy question here because the terminology is getting pretty confusing for me... I keep seeing "private DNS" options popping up in my phone settings, and I know regular DNS translates website names into IP addresses.... But struggling to understand whats making it "private". Does it actually hide my real IP from websites like a VPN does, or does it just encrypt the lookups so my ISP can't see what sites i visit?

If I’m already running a good VPN with built-in leak guards, does setting up a Private DNS(like Cloudflare) even do anything? Every post seems to give conflicting answers on whether it provides real anonymity or if it's just a glorified adblocker(seems like that from what I gathered)

Would love a quick sanity check on where this actually fits into a basic privacy setup. Heard having too much privacy features might be counter-intuitive for the effectiveness of the VPN itself🤔

VPN recommendations to view British tv channels

I have NordVPN atm and it works well. I’m due for renewal very soon. Just checking to see if anyone has any better recommendations than NordVPN. It has worked well with all channels including BBC iplayer so would like a VPN that can do the same. NordVPN will cost $100 for the year. Anything cheaper would be great!

Do VPNs alter any default Windows settings?

I had some antivirus switch up some firewall permissions in the past. I wonder if something similar could have been caused by some stuff I tested not long ago

Is there a way to check recent network configuration changes? Dont mind if I gotta look it up on the console terminal or in the window interfaces. Or at least a log of some recent changes. Surely Windows is making a log of that somewhere on my PC

Is there a tool that lets you remove VPN apps on Windows?

It would be so that those with free travel passes – who don’t have access to it – could use the tunnel

I've tried at least 5 vpn providers so far every single one limits me to 30mbps doesn't matter what device i use.. I'm trying to get at least like 50-100mbps but I'm limited to 30mbps.. Any tricks to increase speed.. Without vpn I get like 400mbps and videos buffer but with VPN on my speed drops to 30mbps and videos still buffer like crazy.. How do i increase the vpn speed?

best vpn for bbc iplayer

I am now staying in Florida and I was trying to use BBC iplayer on my iphone 15 pro just to watch one series. I searched for the best VPN for BBC iplayer because I did not want to waste money on something useless.

I used ExpressVPN on my iphone with ios and connected to a UK server. The VPN connected quickly, and the BBC iplayer app opened fine. but streaming was inconsistent. one time it played for a few minutes and kicked me out of the page completely, another time I couldn't find the show. tbh, I expected it to completely fail, so even some access was surprising to me

for people in the US using iphone, what VPN for BBC iplayer has been the most reliable for you?

VPN - First Time User (UK) - Which options

I'm looking for VPN access whilst we go abroad - I don't (I think) need VPN regular use so just a one off for a couple of weeks.

I'm going to need it on about 8 devices (accessing things like iplayer / sky go etc).

Options I've considered:

- Proton VPN - looks like £7.99 a month (guess I could cancel within the 30 days)

- Mullvad - looks like £4.28 a month

- Nord VPN - £11.09 a month

I've also got an OpenVPN server in my router settings so is one option using these settings and connecting back to the router (albeit my upstream speed is 17Mbps).

Thoughts?

Alternatives to Mullvad/Proton

Opinions on this matter irrelevant to discussion.

Primary use-case is avoiding geoblocks, torrenting, and general privacy/pseudonymizing concerns, I'm not much of a media streamer. No logging and a killswitch are mandatory, no account and multiple payment options would be preferred. Ideally not located in Canada, the US, or the UK due to changing, enshittifying policies therein.

AirVPN isn't bad, but I've never had good speeds with it; considering IVPN if anyone has experience with them? I've heard of Windscribe, but its location in Canada makes me reticent to use it. I have similar privacy concerns re: ExpressVPN, Nord, PIA, SurfShark.

I recognize this will be a small, narrow list. I am mostly flipping over rocks to see if I can uncover anything new. Thank you for your time.
