How bad is this rust? (Buying advice)

Considering this 2014 Golf 7.

I need a relatively cheap car that still drives well. This one is a 1.4 liter ACT 140hp highline trim, and doesn't pop up too often (most are 1-1.2). I felt the engine here is probably worth some compromises in other areas (price, looks), since I want to take long trips.

But is the rust too bad to consider this? I see a lot of bubbling

Alltrack/ SW 4motion tuned vs golf r (mk7)?

All else being equal, same price, transmission and mileage, anyone know how a stage 1 ecu/tcu and perhaps a turbo and intake upgrade on an alltrack’s 1.8 would compare to a stock golf r?

Being otherwise ignorant I’m curious for future buying decisions

Is this normal CarPlay behavior on MIB2/2.5?

Hey everyone,

I have a Golf Mk7 with a MIB2.5 retrofit and I’m trying to understand whether this CarPlay behavior is normal or if something is wrong with my setup.

With my old Android phone and Android Auto, the phone stayed connected to both:

  • Android Auto
  • Bluetooth

That meant:

  • calls showed up properly in the cluster
  • steering wheel buttons answered calls
  • contacts/call list worked in the cluster
  • media could still use Bluetooth separately

Now with my iPhone and CarPlay:

  • the MIB completely takes over the phone connection
  • Bluetooth to the car disconnects immediately
  • telephone screen says “disconnect CarPlay to connect phone”
  • cluster no longer shows contacts/call UI
  • steering wheel answer button does nothing
  • all phone/audio goes only through CarPlay

So my question is:

Is this simply how MIB2 handles CarPlay on MQB cars? Or is it just my setup?

Thanks!

Rattling/wobbling on manual mk7 GTI

Hey guys, I seem to be having an issue with my MK7 gti that’s only worsening, the engine/transmission seem to wobble/rattle when I start the car and when I get close to stalling/putting the engine under increased load at low RPM. Anyone have any idea what the source could be ? I’d like to believe it’s just engine mounts / dogbone mount. Let me know what yall think!

Clutch slave cylinder failure

I recently purchase a 2017 gti se 6 speed manual. Today my clutch slave cylinder/TOB failed and made a puddle of brake fluid under my car. I’m looking to replace that of course but I’m wondering if I should replace my clutch while I’m in there. The clutch is definitely an upgraded clutch probably stage 2/3. Previous owner bought the car modified (front mount, downpipe and tune) the car is only at 45k miles. Should I be worried about the clutch or should I just throw the upgraded metal slave cylinder at it. Also is there any “performance” version of that slave/TOB or should I just get the sachs metal version on ecs.

Misfire on cold start

2015 vw gti usa

I've got a misfire on cylinder 3, only on cold start. It's fine once the engine is warm. I've done the usual coils, plugs, injectors, and carbon cleaning with no improvement. Did a leak down test on cylinder 3 and definitely have some air escaping into the intake manifold. Before I go tearing down this motor to replace valves/rebuild the head, what should I look for? Thanks!

Put a Price on this MK7 Sportwagen

2015 Sportwagen SEL 1.8 TSI with Fender Audio and Bi-Xenon Adaptive lighting. New Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ 18" tires, new rear springs and a year old AGM battery. Up to date on all maintenance. The best I am getting from dealers is $4900. I feel it's very low for 106k miles. Interior and exterior are in good condition considering being a city car.

Always hated the exposed space in the MK7 bay - 3D scanned it and modeled a cover that drops right in

Been bugged for ages by that exposed space on the driver's side of the MK7 bay - you know the one, with the wiring and brackets just hanging out.

Spent a few months designing one in CAD, went through three prototypes, and finally got it where I wanted it. 4mm ABS, drops right in with the included bracket, no drilling or trimming.

Did a first batch of 15 and managed to get fitted on a few different MK7s - Golf, GTI, and a Jetta. Pics in the gallery.

Heads up - won't fit cars with the washer fluid reservoir on the passenger side, so check yours before getting excited.

Curious what the sub thinks. Happy to answer questions.

2020 M7.5 1.4 TSI Body Mod Question

Hi Everyone! I recently bought a 2020 TSI and am wanting to add a sportier rear spoiler and a lip splitter to the front bumper (nothing too crazy), but everything I find online is for a GTI or an R. Would a GTI spoiler or lip splitter fit onto a TSI? I know the lip splitter may need an adapter, but hoping a spoiler is a 1:1 fit. Any advise on where to look for TSI specific parts or what GTI parts would fit is greatly appreciated! This is my first VW and first time modding a car.

Thank you!

Experience on Junsun V1

I’m considering buying a Junsun V1 or V1 Plus for my Golf 7.

I like that it still looks pretty OEM, similar to the original Composition Touch I got, just with different icons/UI.

Main thing I want is CarPlay, nothing crazy.
In Germany they’re around 150–250€ depending on the version.

What I’m unsure about:
- Is the V1 Plus actually worth it over the normal V1 and what are the main differences?
- Which RAM version should I get? Is 2GB enough for CarPlay only, or should I go for 4GB or even 6GB?
- Are these units reliable long term?
- Anything important I need to consider before buying? (CANBUS, steering wheel controls, parking sensors, battery drain, etc.)

There are almost no proper reviews online, which makes me a bit skeptical.

So for people who actually own one:
Is it a surprisingly good cheap upgrade, or more of a pain in the a** after a few months?

Recently joined the Golf family here's my GTD

Been a long time BMW driver, but due to moving and financial reasons decided to sell my 6MT m235i and buy a more economical car. Didn't rly want anything boring and still wanted to enjoy driving so I decided on a MK7.5 GTD. It has a tune approx to 230hp and it's my first "cool" hatchback and first VW. Not a GTI but I'm trying to save on fuel haha maybe I'll get a GTI in the future if everything aligns.

Lubricant oil shortage

The reason I’m posting this here is NOT to start a political shitstorm.

It’s because we’re all 5k mile oil change interval probably.

So be aware there will likely be hoarding and price spikes

———-

Toyota sent a bulletin to service departments warning of an impending shortage of 0W-8 and 0W-16 motor oils, confirmed genuine by multiple sources.
• Nissan drafted a similar bulletin anticipating a supply crunch and price hikes, with a Nissan spokesperson confirming the bulletin is real — though it hasn’t been distributed to dealers yet.
• O’Reilly Automotive, Valvoline, and Shell have all warned investors about lubricant cost spikes, with Shell disclosing its lubricants business lost feedstock supply tied to Qatar disruptions.

Is there any actual power gain from catback in a GTI?

I've heard just about everywhere what catbacks do absolutely nothing on these cars when they are stock other than add sound. I've never seen an exhaust dyno test on these cars either. I'm thinking of getting an Invidia Q300 catback for my GTI, it's pretty cheap and fairly good quality (I've had one on my G37).

C7 Vette, S550 Mustang GT, or FL5 CTR?

Just throwing this question out there to get ya’lls opinions between these three cars.

I don’t have any “goo-goo, gaa-gaa” eyes for either of these cars, but if I was going to eventually look into getting another sporty car (might sell my MK7 GTI, I might not…still haven’t decided if I should keep it in the fan or sell it for peanut money), these three are possible options.

All three options are 6spd manual, under 60k miles, below $50k price.

We all know about the FL5 CTR. FWD, 2.0T, liftback (not a true hatchback design). It’s very similar to a GTI, but handles better. It will feel very similar to the GTI in terms of it being a “tuner car”. Best mpg’s of the bunch. Most practical.

Next is a C7 Corvette Grand Sport. Best looking I the three imo. Doesn’t need any aftermarket aesthetic mods to look great. Fastest, most raw, reliable. I see fewer of these on the road in my area in AZ than I do FL5 CTR’s. Price is second most expensive.

Then there’s the S550 Mustang GT. Good V8. Good power. The cheapest of the three. But I’m afraid it’s a car I’d get bored of the power pretty quickly. As far as looks go, I like them as long as they have a bit of a drop, wheels, and some other little body aesthetic mods. In stock form, they’re a little “boring” for a muscle car, imo. Price is definitely the cheapest and can find a good example for $10-15k less than the other two vehicles.

I’ve driven both the FL5 CTR and a S550 Mustang GT before. Neither of them gave me a WOW factor. The CTR is just so overpriced and the GT left me wanting a little more “push” on power. I’ve never driven the C7 Grand Sport. I’ve only driven a C7 Stingray, which was fun, but the basic looks of it didn’t get me that excited. That’s where the Grand Sport body comes in…it’s a lot better looking than the base Stingray imo. Power was good though and I enjoyed the sound. It felt long, like Vette’s always have to me, but I could get over that with time.

What’s your choice and why?
