Right lens dead after 5 days of owning.

I bought this headset a week ago off Ebay from an amazing seller. The headset and cable are in extremely good condition. Clocked about 8 hours on the headset before the right lens just decided to do what the video shows. It’s unfortunate, but I bought a year warranty so i’m getting a replacement. Just hope this doesn’t happen again. I’m not sure what caused this, maybe using 144hz? Idk, I love the experience so hopefully headset #2 doesn’t do me dirty. Literally lasted 8 beautiful hours 😭

Valve Index speakers suddenly stopped working

I did not have these issues until today, but for some reason my index's speakers no longer produce any audio, and might not even be detected properly as an audio device?

My Specs:

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X

RAM: 16 GB 6400 MHz

OS: Windows 10 Education Version 22H2 (before anyone asks, it does not automatically install shit like Candy Crush which is nice)

AMD Driver version 26.6.4

What I've tried:

- Reinstalling SteamVR

- Uninstalling all SteamVR devices in device manager and letting windows reinstall drivers

- Unplugging my headset from my computer and from the outlet, and plugging back in

- restarting

- pretty much every possible combination of the above

- Updating AMD GPU drivers

- Uninstalling AMD GPU drivers with DDU and reinstalling

- Swapping to a different available audio device and then back

- Disabling other audio devices

- Putting the index in a different usb port

I have basically done everything I could think of doing, short of either updating my BIOS or reinstalling Windows. If this is a known issue, I would not mind rolling back AMD drivers either.

Other things I thought were of note while I was troubleshooting:

- The display, tracking, and microphone all otherwise work fine, but when I have my audio output set to my index, there is no sound, and for some reason the microphone also stops working.

\- If I have the output set to my computer's speakers, the microphone works as normal, and there is of course sound from my computer speakers.

- The index audio output device is listed on my computer as "Index HMD (AMD High Definition Audio Device)"

\- This audio device *only* exists and is selectable on windows while SteamVR is running (*I'm pretty sure I used to always be able to select it?*) It also appears in Device Manager while SteamVR is running

\- the "*AMD High Definition Audio Device*" label is also shared with my regular monitors that appear as selectable audio outputs, which makes me think my issue is connected to some kind of **AMD driver fuckery.**

- Device manager also shows a "Digital Audio Interface (Valve VR Radio & HMD Mic)" as a separate device. This device does not show up as an audio output in settings, but it does show up as an input for the headset microphone, even when SteamVR is not running. I am not sure if this is normal, I feel that I was able to select this device as an output before and cannot anymore for some reason, but I am not sure.

Also, I am careful about how I store my index and loop my cables so I highly doubt this is a hardware issue, but I also am at a breaking point trying to figure out what's wrong with my index and/or my computer.

We dropped the biggest update yet for our PC VR game Irreversible, and it’s 20% off right now

Hey everyone!

We’ve just released the biggest Early Access update so far for Irreversible, our PC VR game. This one adds a full new chapter, a completely new location, new enemies, anomalies, weapons, story content, and a lot of improvements across the existing game.

The new chapter takes you into an area that’s meant to feel different from everything that came before: more unsettling, stranger, and a bit more “out of this world.” As you explore it, you’ll find traces of a group that was here before you. Their story unfolds through audio logs scattered throughout the location.

We also added short interlude episodes between in-game days. The goal was to make the pacing feel more natural, instead of jumping straight from one major event to the next.

The update introduces a new enemy type: Phantoms. They have strong hearing and vision, and patrol limited areas. If you move carefully, you can avoid them, but once they start hunting you, things get much worse. The camera-detector can also help you spot them while moving through their territory.

The new location is filled with dangerous anomalies:

Bubble - a translucent anomaly that violently expels anything that enters its field.

Geyser - clusters of anomalous vents that release boiling water and steam when approached. They can also be safely triggered from a distance using the detector.

Ball Lightning - a spherical mass of electrical energy that travels along a fixed route.

We also added a new weapon: a single-shot shotgun. At close range, one blast can stop almost anything, but ammunition is scarce. As the story progresses, upgrades for the shotgun become available, including one that turns it from a standard break-action shotgun into a semi-automatic platform while still keeping it comfortable to use one-handed.

On top of the new chapter, we revisited every existing location, improved visuals, replaced the water, added ziplines instead of some old teleport transitions, improved climbing and virtual body movement, added a head-mounted flashlight, Detector zoom, new loot spots, and did a lot of optimization work.

It’s a big update for us, and it’s out now. We’d love to hear what people think.

Valve Index randomly turns itself into a monitor even with direct mode enabled

As the title says, sometimes when I go away from my PC to go piss or something, I come back to the Index as a 3rd monitor, screens on and green LEDs lit, just showing a non stabilised desktop view like a monitor. I have direct mode on but it still does it every couple of weeks. Running AMD drivers, CPU and GPU if that's important.

Anyone got the same issue and has a fix apart from enabling direct mode? It used to happen back when I bought it sometimes, but now years later it started doing it again.

Can I fix blurry display?

So, last year I switched to a Valve Index after my old HTC Vive died. And while it is pretty fun to use, I noticed one very annoying issue I can't seem to fix. For some reason, the screen seem to reflect itself on the lens in front of it, making everything thats slightly bright completly blurry. I tried lowering the brightness in hope it won't reflect as much, but it didn't make a difference. Unless my in-game environment is completly dark, I can barely see anything and it feels like I have fog on my lens.

Is there any way I can fix this? I dont wanna open it, because im too afraid of breaking something (I haven't finished my technic yet), but idk if there are any other solutions to fix the blurriness.

How could I remove the headphones?

Edit: would like to change my question since I realize this is commonly asked, but will the 3D or surround sound audio be worse in terms of realism if I use another headset?

One side of the headphones broke and now it’s odd listening on one side but not the other, especially with the weight imbalance.

Is there a way to remove both headphones to use my own custom one? Thanks.

Still worth it in the big ‘26?

I know it’s the big ‘26 and there’s talks of the Deckard in the next couple of years probably but I was able to pick this guy up for $385 and I’m excited (Mostly to use the controllers with my meta quest 3 lol) but o figured $385 wasn’t a bad price for the whole set up.

I was told the base station with the sticker on it has been having intermittent pairing issues and I was told it was fixable but the seller wasn’t confident in his own ability to fiddle with it so he just never attempted to fix it. Does anyone know what issue/fix he was referring to? Is it common?

And how easy is it to get the controllers to work with the Meta Quest 3? If possible at all

I made a free, simple VR space dragging tool (OVR Space Dragger) and need some help testing it!

Hey everyone,

I just released a utility tool on Steam called OVR Space Dragger.

Why I made it

Space dragging is honestly such an essential feature for a good VR experience, but I wanted to build a version that is dead-simple, lightweight, and completely free so anyone can access it without a barrier to entry.

Where I need your help

I have pretty limited hardware on my end for compatibility testing, and I'm particularly worried about Valve Index controllers right now. If you own an Index (or any other headset/controllers), I would be incredibly grateful if you could give it a shot and let me know if it works smoothly or if anything breaks.

Any and all general feedback, feature requests, or bug reports are highly appreciated!

Steam Link:

Thanks so much for the help, everyone!

I am begging someone to make an application that allows quest 2 or 3 controllers to connect and work with the valve index

My index controllers are having issues and i dont want to have no controllers when sending them back to have them fixed, and i wouldnt have to worry much about that if i had backups (i dont), it would be super convenient if i could use any quest controllers without having to use the quest headset, and can connect it to my index and it would still work and track like a normal controller, it would also save money incase people dont want to order new controllers but want the headset

just please i dont know how hard this would be but it would solve a lot of problems

Need advice on where to mount 3 Base Station 2.0s in a slanted ceiling room (Pics attached)

Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out the optimal placement for three Base Station 2.0s in my room, but the slanted ceiling is throwing me off a bit.

A few quick details:

  • I run a mixed VR setup (Quest Pro for the headset), so these base stations are strictly for picking up my 4 trackers (feet, hip, and chest) in VRChat.
  • The giant mirror doors on the closet will be fully covered when I play, so no need to worry about reflection nightmares!
  • I mainly stand before the desk, sit on the bed or lie down on the bed.
  • Please excuse the mess in the photos.

Given the layout and the sloped walls, where would you guys mount all three to get the best continuous tracking coverage with minimal blind spots? Thanks!

Someone lifted my index from my dorm room. Am I able to lock it down or get a location on it if someone tries to register to their steam account? Stolen report mode or anything? I guess kinda like activation lock on iphones?

My friend gave me his Valve Index. What issues or problems should i look out for to give this Index a longer Lifespan?

So my friend gave me his Valve Index that he never used and is brand new but before I open it up and actually set it up I was wondering about some issues that the Index had. I've heard some stuff about it like it being very fragile and I would like to know what issues it had to pretty much just prevent myself from breaking the headset, controllers, and/or base stations
