S3 Rear Hub Dimsantling - Advice Needed

S3 Rear Hub Dimsantling - Advice Needed

I am hoping some of you can help me, as I have watched all the videos on the S40 and as many posts as i can on here, but am still unable to get this part of the internal rear hub undone. I know based on the video that its the left part that gets undone, but that metal bit that is before the nut feels impossible to get removed. it spins freely but thats about it. Can anyone with experience with this help me get this figured out ?

This hub that I got from a high mileage bike is really bad atm and is in dire need of cleaning - degreasing - greasing. I am at a point where i have now fixed every component of an S/X3 and this is my first venture into the rear wheel, which i have always feared before and still kinda do :D

VanMoof S3/X3 motor cable connector cover

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for an STL file to 3D print a replacement for the VanMoof S3/X3 motor cable connector cover (shown in the attached image).
Has anyone created or found a model/STL for this exact part on Printables, Thingiverse, MakerWorld, or elsewhere?
If you have a link or a file you'd be willing to share, it would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

New S3 E-shifter for sale (EU)

Hi all, I hope you’re well.

I’m in the process of clearing out some old items since my S3 was stolen (again) in Copenhagen a couple of years ago and I have finally given up hope of finding it.. this includes a brand new original e-shifter that Vanmoof sent me when I was experiencing some problems. Unfortunately the thieves got to my bike before I could take it to the mechanics.

I understand these are hard to find so hoping someone here can make use of it.

Selling for 1800kr/€240 with PayPal. Open to reasonable offers too.

Feel free to message me if you are interested or have any questions.

Thanks

[iOS/TestFlight] Looking for VanMoof S3/X3 owners to beta test MoofHub

Hey everyone! I’m looking for VanMoof S3 and X3 owners to help test MoofHub, an independent iOS companion app I’ve been building.

MoofHub connects directly to an owner-authorized bike over Bluetooth and includes:

  - Live bike status and diagnostics

  - Unlock, assistance, lights, bell, theft-protection, and shifting controls

  - Manual and automatic ride recording

  - Optional GPS routes and Apple Health export

  - Maintenance schedules and service history

  - Home/Lock Screen widgets and ride Live Activities

  - Multi-bike support

  - Supported speed-profile controls with verification and recovery

Why I need real beta testers

The app has been tested with automated tests and simulated data, but that cannot fully reproduce real bikes. Bluetooth behavior, firmware versions, iPhone models, background operation, and everyday riding conditions can all affect reliability.

Testing across different S3/X3 bikes and real-world environments will help me collect dependable results, identify hardware-specific problems, and confirm that displayed information and controls match the physical bike.

Requirements

  - An owner-authorized VanMoof S3 or X3

  - An iPhone running iOS 18 or later

  - Willingness to follow test instructions and report results

  - Ability to provide clear steps when something goes wrong

If you would like to participate, send me a message

  Please include:

  - Your bike model and firmware version

  - Your iPhone model and iOS version

  - Your country

  - How frequently you ride

  - Which features you are interested in testing

  - Why you think you would be a reliable beta tester

This is an early beta, so please don’t rely on it for critical service work.

MoofHub stores bike credentials in the iOS Keychain and currently contains no advertising or analytics SDK. It is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by VanMoof.

SX3 rear hub disassembly / maintenance

Hi. Anyone who has repaired or fully successfully taken apart and reassembled the rear sx3 hub? Is there an easy way to do it without the specific hub tools? What are the differences compared to the original SA hub (which is online)? What are the correct lubes used, that are available in the uk? Any other specific tips for correct rear hub maintenance and installation?

On the x3 (7k mi) I never touched the hub and it runs smoothly and freely, no clicking noises whatsoever. When the pedal is kicked backwards, they do 3+ full revolutions.

On the s3 (4k mi), I have taken the hub partially apart and cleaned (after failed shifter) around the bearings and actuator. When the bike is pushed or the wheel is spun, it makes two distinctive clicking noises. Pedals also don’t rotate as freely and only make about 1-1.5 revolutions when kicked.

I’m aware of the original SA hub videos and schematics. I will be grateful for any advice or photos/vids of the actual VM hubs. Thanks in advance.

S3 gearhub 2/3 reversed

I have an S3 gear hub where the 2nd and 3rd gears are reversed. It seems strange, but I have tested it thoroughly. The shifter works and is 100% definitely installed correctly. Has anyone else experienced this, and more importantly, is there a solution? Could something inside the hub have shifted?

S3 to an S6

Just got my S6 today! 🚲 After 6 years with my S3, recurring Error 44 and 45 issues and a €1,000 repair estimate convinced me it was time to move on. I sold it for €100, which was disappointing, but I still love the brand. For me, VanMoof is the iPhone of bikes. Here's hoping the S6 delivers the reliability I've been waiting for! 🙌 #VanMoof #S6 #ebike

VanMoof S3 motor – loose bearing balls on cable side

Hi! I’m rebuilding a VanMoof S3 front hub motor and ran into something unexpected.

When I separated the motor from the hub, several small steel bearing balls fell out from the cable/wire side of the motor. I also found a small C-shaped metal piece that may be part of a broken bearing cage/retainer.

Around the shaft on the cable side there is a rusty ring/groove that looks like it could be the bearing race.

Has anyone rebuilt this motor before and knows:
Where the balls should sit
What the C-shaped piece is
Whether the rusty ring is the bearing race
Whether this bearing can be replaced separately
The planetary gears look fine.
Photos attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The classic DÜSENJÄGER

This is a original Vanmoof Düsenjäger, another bike out of my small Vanmoof bike collection.
The bike was released in 2011 and is based on the 28" frame of the Vanmoof No.5. The Düsenjäger a modified limited edition of the No.5 and was limited to 300 bikes produced. The difference to the No.5 is not just the red powder coated Sturmey Arche hubs and rims, it's also got frame color matching fenders from the company Curana, the frame is coated in a beautiful silver witch is not just a paint, it's bare anodized aluminum. The rear hub is a 2speed kickshift with rear coaster, and the integrated chain lock is a cooperation between Vanmoof and Abus based on the Abus Granit CityChain X Plus.
I'm happy to have this bike in it's original condition in my collection and to share this lovely little piece of Vanmoof history with you.
Let me know what you think of this piece of art?
Have a good one everybody ✌🏻☀️

Used bike seller: No worry. The bike was always stored in a dry barn.

When I turned the bike upside down, it gurgled and a few liters of water ran out of the frame.
It's running like a charm again.
