Is it just me, or do Bare Vanilla Candied and Angel Cake smell similar?

I wanted to buy it, but it immediately reminded me of this flanker.

I hate I missed out on the free tote, but getting the new Strawberry Bisou at an amazing discount makes up for it! I hope I like it 😅.

I finally got Daring and I actually was pleasantly impressed.
I wasn’t expecting much because I’ve not found many reviews about this or heard people talk about it either. I usually associate VS with very sweet/fruity/feminine scents, but this smells way more like an actual perfume to me.

The first thing I noticed was how aromatic and bright it is. There’s a freshness in the opening, but then the woody side starts coming through and it gets warmer and more interesting. I get this slightly earthy/green thing too, but it’s not in a masculine way. It just smells… perfumey**.** Like properly blended and put together.

It’s also surprisingly mature for VS. Not “mature” in an old-fashioned way, just less girly and more grown-up. It feels like something I could wear during the day, but personally I think I’d reach for it more in the evening. It has enough freshness to not feel heavy, but there’s enough warmth/woodiness underneath to make it feel a little more dressed up.

For me, Daring smells like getting ready for dinner on a quiet evening, you’ve showered, put on a nice outfit, your hair is done, maybe you’re wearing a little jewellery, and you’re heading out somewhere nice but not overly formal. There’s still some brightness and freshness from the day, but the fragrance has enough woody warmth to feel more evening-appropriate.

It’s the kind of scent I imagine wearing when I want to feel polished and feminine without smelling overtly sweet or dressed-up.

And I actually think that’s what makes it stand out among VS fragrances for me. It feels less like “Victoria’s Secret body mist”** **and more like a proper perfume that happens to be from VS. The longevity is also decent with 6-8 hours on clothes and 4-5 hrs on skin.

Also, the bottle is gorgeous, heavy and has thick glass. The muted grey-green with the pink cap feels much more sophisticated than I expected.

Really glad I bought it and I feel it’s a highly underrated perfume.

I’ve been wearing this for a few days now and this is what I think! YMMV

Bottle is cute, top stays on firmly but comes off easily. The color is perfect for the contents!

First whiff takes me back to the last century when I was young and my mom would make strawberry shortcake. She would make fresh biscuits, put the sweetened strawberries on them, then top with vanilla ice cream. (I miss you, mom 😢) Second whiff: I am standing in a you-pick strawberry field, red-stained hands and a full bucket; of course it’s sunny and hot, so all I smell is strawberries!

On the dry down, I get some vanilla. It’s very sweet: I am making strawberry cobbler for my hungry family and I have spilled some vanilla extract on my hands that already smell like strawberries because I just finished chopping them up. Unfortunately for me, I prefer the dark and stanky vanillas, that grow on twisted trees in dark forests! This vanilla is not that one at all; it’s pure white vanilla ice cream.

I don’t really get any marshmallow out of this. Whomp whomp.

After an hour, a faint chemical-ly smell comes through. This is strawberry ice cream that is yummy, but the flavor is just sliiiiightly artificial. The initial bright and sunny strawberry is about half gone. Maybe that weird note I’m getting is that white vanilla extract.

Today I am wearing it over Sticky Dates and I’m enjoying the combo. I smell like what I am: a sweet dessert!

TL dr: 4 stars out of 5. A similar scent to the Pink “Boy, Be Gone” mist—this Tease is BBG’s older sister. Staying power not great on my skin. Marshmallow MIA. Smells lovely at first, good for layering over something deeper. Not sure if this will end up in my permanent collection yet.

ETA: after a while day’s wear, this perfume is just a skin scent on me. And if you have to get this close to smell me, I will probably smack you. Maybe we could call this “Bare Strawberry”. I will try layering it with Bare Rose to see what happens.

I usually blind buy and I already have Bare Vanilla and Midnight Bloom, both of which I like. I’ve been eyeballing Velvet Petals and Pure Seduction for a while now because the notes look like something I would like and might get them depending on what you guys say. So far, Bare Vanilla is my fave of the classic mists I’ve tried. What’s your favorite (or favorites)?
