The Perfec Video Game. Does Anything Like This Actually Exist.
We’re a group of gamers, and we started doing a bit of brainstorming about what our “perfect game” would look like. We all have different tastes, but when we put our ideas together, this is more or less what we came up with.
The first thing would be having the choice between first- and third-person perspective. We’d like to be able to play it as a shooter if we want, or switch to third person depending on the situation or our mood.
It would also have both online multiplayer and a proper offline mode, be cross-platform, and work equally well with mouse and keyb or controller.
We really like games where you can see your character getting stronger as you play. Even if we only play for 15 minutes, we wanna see some improvement in our character, whether it’s stats, equipment, skills or something else.
At the same time, we’d love to have PvP and leaderboards, rankings for character level, fastest mission times, performance in activities, number of stages completed, etc. Basically, different things for different types of players to compete over.
Character customization should be a must. We’d like to customize gender, sex, race, appearance, body type and clothing. Basically, we want the freedom to create whatever kind of character we feel like playing. For example, we might want to create a 21-year-old model wearing a bikini, sexy clothes or tight-fitting leggings, or we might want to create a muscular 30-year-old guy who clearly spends a lot of time in the gym. Or a gothic teenager full of percings. The point is simply having a lot of freedom over the character’s appearance and style.
We’d also want a genuinely good story. Something that keeps us interested, with good narrative and decisions that actually let us choose our own path. But we wouldn’t want those choices to completely lock us into one route. We’d still like some freedom to explore, change direction and discover things on our own.
Exploration should actually be rewarding too. As we progress through the story, we want to find secrets, hidden areas and places that aren’t necessarily required to complete the main story. And, of course, we want to find better weapons, armor and clothing with better stats as we explore.
Weapons would have their own progression too. We love the idea of weapons becoming stronger through use, while also being customizable with attachments, sockets and different modifiers. Ideally, you could combine those modifiers and upgrade them over time. We’d want a similar system for armor and clothing, so the whole equipment setup could gradually evolve.
We’d also like different classes or playstyles. Maybe we want to play ranged, melee or magic. Or perhaps specialize in pistols, SMGs, flamethrowers, shotguns, sniper rifles or something completely different. The important thing is having enough options to build the character around the way each player enjoys playing.
For firearms, we actually like having ammunition and having to reload. We don’t want unlimited bullets where you can simply hold the trigger forever. Having to manage ammunition and reload adds another layer to the gameplay.
We’d want vehicles. Motorcycles, cars, horses, whatever fits the setting, with different vehicles becoming available as we progress through the story. Ideally, they could also have some degree of customization and progression.
Another thing we really like about ARPGs is how far you can push character power. We’d love to have very fast progression but also an extremely high, almost unlimited power ceiling like diablo3. If someone plays for 15 minutes, they should already feel stronger. If someone plays for hundreds of hours, there should still be something to work towards. Obviously, you can’t just keep making the player stronger forever without increasing the challenge, so we’d solve that with a huge number of difficulty levels. Something starting at Easy, Normal, Veteran, Hard, Nightmare 1, Nightmare 2, Nightmare 3, etc. Basically, the difficulty could keep going as far as the players manage to push it. If the game gives you almost infinite progression, we’d rather have the level cap extremely far away than reach the end of progression too quickly.
We’d also like seasons, but not the kind where you have to start again every few weeks. Something like six months to a year per season would be ideal. That would give people who enjoy starting fresh and competing on leaderboards a reason to do it, while still allowing enough time to actually develop a character.
We’re taking the things we like most from a lot of different games and putting them together. For example, we’d love something like Days Gone, but with much deeper character customization, weapon upgrades, armor, character levels, different classes, a more developed talent system and PvP. Or Diablo, but played from a first- or third-person perspective, with firearms that use ammunition and require reloading, weapons more similar to what you find in Remnant From the Ashes, customizable vehicles, and a proper story rather than simply going from one group of enemies to the next.
The story would have actual objectives and progression, with puzzles, riddles, resource management and exploration. Things like the resource management you get in The Last of Us, combined with the exploration, puzzles and other elements you can find in games like God of War.Basically, we’re looking for the best parts of all these games in one place.
And we wouldn’t want a subscription game or pay-to-win or pay for extra inventory or stash space, talent changes, faster progression or any of that stuff. Ideally, you buy the game once and that’s it. If the developers needed an extra income, we’d be rigjt with a cosmetic shop for skins and other purely visual stuff.
So yeah… we’re probably asking for the ultimate gaming panacea 😂
But maybe we’re wrong and there’s actually a game out there that comes close. If anyone here knows a game that combines even a good portion of these things, we’d genuinely appreciate the recommendations. We’d love to hear what you guys think comes closest to this “perfect game.”

My partner hasn't played any video games since childhood, and I've been a gamer since the NES. I want so badly to play with her, but she's just not interested. Can anyone recommend any games that might grab her interest, especially co-op? (Just to emphasise that we do in fact have a fantastic relationship. This is pretty much the only thing we don't have in common)
