Engine issue

On my way home from work today and my check engine light flashed at me a few times but didn't stay on. I had no issues maintaining speed or accelerating very gradually, but the engine was shuddery if I tried to accelerate normally. I'm going to take it to a shop tomorrow to get a quote but I'm not sure what good that will do for me since my dog pretty much drained my bank this week

So before I take it in, any idea of what might be the problem and also how screwed I'm gonna be financially?

Hi, this is my first post in this page, currently going through a bit of a dilemma

I’m currently looking into buying this xc70 p3 2011, I’m in the uk, the car currently has only 80k miles on the clock, it’s on for £11,700, does this seem like a steep price for this car? Only 1 owner, the owner had his nephew service the car at a local garage which the nephew own’s. It drives unbelievable smooth compared to other cars of the same model but similar years I have driven lately, however their mileage was higher, understandable because of the year, basically I need help with the decision, it’s getting a cambelt replacement and full service in preparation for my collection. Any advice would be great, thanks

Gratuitous photo. Honest question.

I own a clean 2004 XC70 with 120K miles. Been in the family her whole life. Do I spend 5k on suspension replacement (control arms sway bar etc…) or donate her and put that $ down on a new used car (2020 v60 CC). IDK why I’m even asking this group… I think know the answer I’ll get.

Noisy AC clutch?

Hey guys

I was wondering if it's normal for the AC clutch to make a clunking noise like this?

It happens every time the AC turns on (like every 10-15 seconds) and you can actually feel and hear it inside the car, but only very faint.

The AC is working as expected, except for the typical expansion valve hissing. It *might* be a little down on cooling power but i'm not really sure, since i haven't used the AC much.

Btw, the rumbling/grinding sound that the compressor is making appears much louder on video than IRL.

Thank you for you help :)

Door swaps

my 06 xc70 got hit by a deer.. insurance DIDN'T total it thankfully.. managed to find what LKQ said were 04 V70 parts.. got the fender and the front door in matching red

getting mixed online information. they should bolt directly up, just the cladding is different. someone else i spoke too, who hasnt done this swap.. is saying the door internals are all different and the connector is different.

can anyone confirm/deny this..

XC70 P3 Fuel consumption

Hi, I'm looking at getting a 2011 D5 manual (205PS) and was wondering what fuel economy people get when driving on the motorway? Thanks

High mileage or Certified Pre owned?

I’m planning on buying a 2015 XC70 T6 and I’m trying to figure out whether it would be worth it to buy a XC70 with 200k miles for around 4-5k knowing I will have to dump a decent amount of money into it for repairs/ maintenance. Or do I buy a Volvo Certified Pre owned with 100k miles on it for 13k?

Tips, tricks, and everything else!

Hi, I just purchased a 2006 Volvo XC70, have wanted one for a longtime and finally found one I liked and met the criteria I was looking for! She’s a little higher miles (still well under 150,000), but well maintained and I plan on taking good care of her!
Anyway, wanted to reach out to the community and see if anyone had any tips, tricks, advice, etc for the car! My boyfriend is a mechanic and will likely do most maintenance so any mechanical advice is also greatly appreciated.

Finally found a way to bring my XC70 into the kitchen 🇸🇪

I’ve always felt that the P3 XC70 has one of the most iconic front ends Volvo ever designed. Since I spend half my time looking at my car in the driveway, I decided to make a little tribute for the fridge.

It took a few test prints to get the grille and headlight proportions just right, but I’m really happy with how the STL turned out. It’s a nice little "IYKYK" piece for the house.

If any fellow P3 owners want to print one for their own fridge, I put the file up on Cults 🧲 Fridge Magnet Volvo XC70 P3 2008-2016・Free STL File for 3D printing・Cults. What do you guys think? Should I try the V70 or V60 next?

Btw, I have made also a keychain version of it: 🗝️ Keychain Volvo XC70 P3・Free STL File for 3D printing・Cults

Small victory: Finally fixed that annoying missing scuttle cap on my P3 XC70

Hey everyone,

Just a quick heads-up for those of you with a P3 chassis (XC70/V70/S80/S60). I was cleaning out some debris under the windshield the other day and realized my brake fluid reservoir access cap was completely gone.

It’s easy to overlook, but that hole lets water and dirt dump straight into the scuttle area, which isn't great for the brake system long-term. The OEM part number is 30799291 if you want to buy a new one, but they can be surprisingly pricey for a small plastic disc.

Since I couldn't justify the cost, I reverse-engineered a replacement model to match the factory specs. It’s designed specifically to protect against debris and water ingress.

I’ve uploaded the high-precision STL file to Cults3D if anyone else needs to print a replacement. 🧢 Brake Fluid Reservoir Access Cap for Volvo V70, XC70, S60, S80 P3・ STL File for 3D printing・Cults

It fits perfectly and looks just like the original. Hope this helps someone keep their engine bay a bit cleaner!

Transmission fluid preference?

Do you guys think that OEM transmission fluid for a 2005 XC70 really matters that much or will the Valvoline equivalent be fine for a drain and fill. Also, should i do a drain and fill on a 158k transmission?

magsafe vent mount - which one?

there are dozens of these on amazon, seemingly of mixed quality.

which of these holds up the best, with or without charging? would sacrifice it for a better fit/magnet.

Most reliable version to buy?

Hey guys,

I’m currently in the market for my first XC70, but honestly I’m completely overwhelmed with information, especially all the negative feedback online (including from ChatGPT… yeah, I know).

For some context: I have a farm in Portugal, and during winter it gets pretty muddy, but my 2018 VW T6 FWD actually manages surprisingly well. I also do at least three long trips per year between Portugal and the Netherlands (around 2,300 km / 1,430 miles one way), and sometimes another 1,000 km (620 miles) onward to Berlin.

My VW still has Dutch plates, and because of tax reasons I’d like to leave the van in the Netherlands for a few months each year. Also, for these long drives, the van gets pretty exhausting.

I’m not too picky about the XC70 generation. I’m a big fan of both the facelifted P2 and facelifted P3 models.

That said, I’ve read a lot of negative comments about certain years and drivetrains: AWD/Haldex issues, diesel-related clogging problems, some 2015 models burning excessive oil, etc.

So my main question is: what are the most reliable years and engines?

Would you go FWD or AWD? Diesel or petrol? I’m basically trying to avoid unnecessary headaches and get the simplest, most reliable setup possible.

For reference, I already own:

A 2018 VW T6 (around €2,500 in maintenance last year alone)
A 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.5 TD (another €500 last year) it held amazingly well in my last trip to the Netherlands.
A 1993 Nissan Pickup mainly for farm use (€750 this year)

I was originally planning to spend around €10k, but XC70 prices seem pretty crazy these days. I’m considering cars with up to around 250,000 km (155,000 miles).

Any suggestions or recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

Bought the T6 - Thanks for the Help!

Thanks to everyone who helped recommend the T6 XC70. I ended up picking up this beautiful 2012 XC70 T6 Platinum with 127k miles for $7,600. Excited to get some level set maintenance done and pick up a few things (black cargo cover for example).

V70XC 2001 maintenance

Hi, recently I bought Volvo V70XC (manual) make year 2001 with 370k kilometers on odometr. It has 2.4 T gasoline engine (147kW). I want to do some maintenance, such as timing belt, fluid change, etc. I know that common problem is that PCV is not working, I have already fixed it. So I have some questions:

What is best to do / check on this car so that it will last long?

Should I, or is it even possible to change oil in visco coupling?

Thanks. (Also sorry for my english)
