My thoughts on this band...

Ok. So im a 45 year old man who has a pretty wide range of musical taste. Favorite all time band is Tool. I also hold bands like The Mars Volta, Faith No More, Queens of the Stone Age, etc in high regard. The last few years I've been more into classic rock and funk/soul. Bands like Lettuce, Tauk, Sunsquabi, Budos Band , etc are my current cup of tea.

Which brings me to Vulfpeck. I was aware of them for a while but never listened to anything untill I saw the Drumeo with Eloy Cassagrande (Slipknot current drummer)doing XMas in LA. I initially thought it was a fun little song with a great groove. From there i checked out their studio albums and eventually some live stuff on YouTube. Loved everything I watched and read up on the origins of the band which intrigued me even more.

As I sit here today, Im thinking that this is one of the greatest group of musicians of the current era of any genre of music. Im positive that I have never seen a band project as much positive vibes and energy as Vulfpeck. Everyone involved is a complete master at their craft to say the least. Their entire approach to being a band is something truly special. Im a little late to the party, but goddammit im glad I found this band.

What's a song you would love to hear them cover live?

For me it's gotta be I2I by Power Line/Tevin Campbell from A Goofy Movie. That shit would be ELECTRIC!!

Reflecting on how I got here

TL;DR: Honestly a bit of a self indulgent post about how I learned about Vulf, and the impact it had on me at a crucial point in my life.

I've been following/reading posts on reddit and Facebook about the Theo tour announcement, the lack of clarification/comms regarding the overlapping dates, and fan speculation on the state of the band and their future. It really surprised me that we are here, that this level of drama has been ignited about a band I always assumed were always just in it for a good time. Maybe naive on my part, but I always saw them as a bunch of friends and college musicians having a big jam session! All sides of the story and fan reactions and disappointment are completely valid and understandable, and I do think it's a bit of a turning point.

It all led to me reflecting on my own experience with the Vulf "universe" and how it has impacted me personally. If you're interested, read on, and share your story as well! If you're not, that's cool too.

I first heard of Vulfpeck from a post in r/music, some random fan listed Cory Wong as one of the best songs/videos of the year, I think it was in 2019. I was instantly hooked, but also very confused about who was the artist and what the name of the song was, lol. Cory Wong by Vulfpeck? But Cory Wong is an artist? Is the song called Vulfpeck?

This led me down a rabbit hole to listen to as much as I could. Which led me to a YouTube video of Back Pocket at MSG. That was where I really understood Theo's abilities and musicianship, which led me to Modern Johnny.

In 2022 I was miserable at work, and when Vulf announced the Schvitz Experience I immediately grabbed tickets, and figured that I would work out the details later (I live in Toronto). After a few more months I quit my job and decided to take a career break after working for 20 years. I did a lot of self reflection, was pushing 40, and Theo's solo work really started to do a number on me. The songwriting wasn't terribly profound, but it had a profound effect on me.

The Schvitz Experience was a bit of a musical reawakening for me. I grew up playing music in high school, headphones always on, had a reputation for always being in my own musical world...but as you know, life catches up, adulting takes over. But the Brooklyn residency happened at a point in my life where I was reassessing my own life. It really was a game changer.

Since that concert, I've begun to say 'yes' / 'why not' to more live shows. 4 concerts this year so far, with a few more still lined up, including solo Theo! I'm turning 42 this summer and I'm making a gradual return to my younger musical self, and I've never been happier. Vulfpeck opened the door, I stumbled through, and came out dancing on the other side.

I'm sure Theo is not done with Vulf for good, but it does feel like the end of an era. Vulf without the Core Four is probably fine, just very different. I'm grateful for having the chance to experience them live before this change, and stoked for what Theo has in store. In the end, this band somehow became a huge part of me and it has been a wild ride.

If you made it this far, appreciate you sticking around. Would love to hear your stories of how you got into them and what they mean to you!

Very valuable Vulf Vault vinyl. Anyone think we'll get a re-press soon, if ever?

Tender Defender transcription

I made a full transcription of Tender Defender on Guitar Pro. I'm happy to share the original file or pdf extracts.

some notes:

- Piano, Bass, Sax and drumkit do most of the heavy lifting so I put more care into transcribing these.

- I left the guitar very simple on the chorus, just add rhythm as you feel it, it works best than trying to write it down.

- Extra percussion is more than congas, but it sounds good enough like that on guitar pro

- The background vocals were driving me crazy and might not be 100% accurate, but they sound good to me

- Have fun!

Vulfnik.

I am so upset. I just kept seeing so many posts about the vulfnik vynil FINNALLY shipping. And I’ve been waiting for mine.

Little did I know I had to confirm my account in an email like 2 months ago. So I compeltly missed my chance to get them. I paid for TWO of them years ago. And now I missed the window of an email to respond.

Is there any person that would be willing to help me and have an extra copy I can buy off of them.

I’m so upset I missed this stupid email confirmation, now I have no access to ever get this product I paid for.

Mr Finish Line Alternate Takes?

Hey guys I was listening to Mr Finish Line today and heard Joe say at the end “Take 1 is my favorite” and thought how Ive always to hear that version, like is the bass extra funky? Are there extra fills? This piqued my curiosity and now I’m wondering if there’s any alternate takes to their songs posted online anywhere? Aside from Live performances or the multiple performances of songs from Clarity of Cal.

Theo's playing w/ full band July 9, does that mean Joe will be missing the Paris show too?

I believe Joe Dart is part of Theo's "full band." Do you think he'll miss the July 9 Paris show as well?

Who else could they bring out to play drums?

Reading this comment by got me thinking - unless Jack is taking on drums full-time, who else could they bring out to play drums at the summer gigs? jimmythang34 mentions Nate Smith (which certainly makes sense for any gigs the Flyers are also at), but who else do you think they may bring out?

I'd personally love to see a Vulfpeck set with Petar Janjic on the kit.

Buying & Selling Thread (Mid 2026)

Hey r/vulfpeck we're making some changes to how sales work on the sub.

Going forward, all vinyl and merch sales need to go in this thread. Post a comment here with a link to your listing on Discogs, eBay, Mercari, whatever platform you use. Include a quick description of what you're selling so people don't have to click blind.

A few things that aren't allowed anymore: standalone for-sale posts, negotiating prices in comments or DMs originating from posts here, and "DM me your offer" posts. If you want to sell something, link it. If you want to buy something, check here. Looking for something? Post in here too. Sellers and buyers can interact here. We'll keep an eye on things.

Why are we doing this?

We've gotten more complaints about resale posts lately and the mod team talked it over. The short version is that we're a fan community, not a marketplace, and we can't offer the buyer/seller protections that dedicated platforms can. If someone gets burned on a Reddit DM deal there's nothing we can do about it. Discogs and eBay have dispute resolution. We have vibes.

This also means we don't have to play price police or figure out what "face value" means for a pressing from 2014. The listing price is right there on whatever platform you use, and people can comparison shop.

Ticket sales are unaffected... those still go in the tour/show megathreads at face value like always.

VOSM posts from creators are also unaffected and encouraged. Fan-made merch and original designs can still be their own posts. The community (you) told us you like seeing that stuff and the band benefits from VOSM promotion and sales.

Check the updated rules in the sidebar for the full picture. We'll rotate this thread out and start a fresh one every few months so it doesn't get too buried.

As always we are open to all feedback on this, just trying to keep everyone safe from scams and targeted price-gouging. Just trying to keep the rules as lean as possible and the community engaged.

Happy buying and selling. Be good to each other.
