Please add control group unit removal/transfer options
Disclaimer: I'm a recently returning WC3 player with below average mmr on w3c and around 150 games of experience. Please correct me if I any claims I make are wrong!
Let's say you're creeping with a DK and some Ghouls, all of them in control group 1. One Ghoul falls to low HP and you want to send it back to lumber, and remove it from CG1. Currently you would have to do the following:
- Select the Ghoul (on screen or via its portrait)
- Move camera to base, send Ghoul to lumber
- Select CG1
- Shift-click the Ghoul (via its portrait or on screen) to remove it from selection
- Re-assign CG1 from current unit selection
In total: 5 actions/selections (ignoring camera movement).
I would like the hotkey Alt to modify control groups such, that when holding Alt while selecting a unit, the unit will be removed from all control groups. Compared to above scenario:
- Alt-click the Ghoul to select it and remove it from all CGs
- Move camera to base, send Ghoul to lumber
- Select CG1
Done: 3 actions. That's 40% fewer actions for a simple scenario, and probably many other similar scenarios that happen very frequently.
(Yes I know by default Alt is used for pinging and toggling HP visibility but I don't see a problem in having the option to re-arrange those hotkeys)
This easily combines with the Ctrl and Shift hotkeys:
- Alt+Shift: Add/remove unit to/from selection and remove it from all CGs
- Alt+Ctrl: Select unit and units of the same type in the vicinity and remove them from all CGs. Same with Alt+double-clicking a unit.
- Alt+Shift+Ctrl: I think you get the idea :D
Additionally, and probably more importantly, you should be able to transfer a selection of units from one CG to another by pressing Alt+number, such that the selected units will be removed from their original CGs, and then added/removed to/from the pressed CG.
Example scenario 1: DK + Ghouls creeping
- Select Ghoul
- Press Alt+1
- Send to lumber
- Press 1 to re-select CG1
Example scenario 2: Heroes + Fiends in CG1, Statues + Banshees in CG2, want to have Destroyer(s) exclusively in CG3
- Select some Statues
- (Chain)morph them into Destroyers
- Press Alt+3 on selected Destroyers
In both scenarios this would skip the need to Shift-click all the transferred units from the old CG and then overwriting it.
Admittedly, I have not considered every possible scenario but I'm convinced these options provide a robust solution to improve control group management efficiency.
I'm also convinced that there are many other easy-to-implement QOL and UX improvements that would not only benefit the OGs of the game, but especially help the new and returning players as well. (E.g. higher CG size limit than 12 units, in-built item hotkey modifiers, similar to the AHK scripts out there, option to increase minimap size, etc. not topic of this post..)
I really think this game deserves a bigger player base for how good it is and how well it held up during all those years. Not modernising QOL and UX feels kinda criminal ngl. Wc3 has so much more potential, even (or especially) today!
What do you guys think about the control groups? It's not a huge issue, but maybe worth considering.
Strategy advice?
Idk if I'm allowed to post this here but I was wondering if any Orcs out there have any advice vs NE Warden? Seems like once he gets level 3 he just destroys peons lines over and over. Should I be pushing tier 1? Early tier 2? I'm 5500~ mmr bnet
Happy is insane.
I see his profile on Battle.net, he's online all day and has played over 3,000 games this month alone. How does he manage to be so good playing on the most "amateur" ladder, which doesn't have professional players?
The most dominant player ever is training against mass towers, bloodmage harass, hyporiders, cannon tower cheese. And beats everbody that is pratices with pro players.
Are DH + Bears and Dryads too strong?
Seems like its a good build for every matchup.
Bears are probably the best t3 melee in the game because they double as casters (its almost like a 6 food unit since it can fight and heal DH and roar).
Dryads are spell immune and basically a better human sorc since they dont die as easily and can actually add dps to the army.
Granted all the other elf units are mediocre to bad, and NE doesnt have any great 2nd hero to support the DH.
This post was made to hurt everyone who plays with human
moon (currently the fourth best NE player) organized a tournament against the top 5 human players of the moment: forti, sok, starbuck, leon and chaemiko. He finished 25-1.
That same week he was dropped into the 3 Pesants Tower Rush, meaning he would lose against a random player from Battlenet https://youtu.be/00N0lfqay5o?si=z2n3TfPXATSfRsYg
What are the things that make you not enjoy PvP?
Atm I focus on PvP in warcraft 3 and starcraft 2. I made a thread before asking about skirmish vs AI compared to other ways to play. A lot of people that responded viewed PvP as too much stress and hate having to always do meta builds.
My question broken down into more detail:
- Why do you feel you have to play meta? Often people forget that the meta is based on what most players consider the most consistent performing way to play. That doesn't stop you from trying other strategies. Meta's change all the time even without balance patches.
- Getting rushed/harassed early on is a complaint I hear often. But if there is no possibility to rush, then every game is just the FFA playstyle of "build up for 30+min and then A move". That would get stale after awhile. Instead of hating rushing why not adjust your strategy to punish rush/harass?
Things that make me not enjoy PvP at times:
Seeing the same strategies over and over again. I love WC3 with all my heart, it was the first RTS I played and got me hooked into the genre and blizzard in general. But for the love of god, I'm tired of seeing "hero harass->fast tech->pray tech wins" every god damn game. The more I see this, the more it feels like tier 1 doesn't even exist.
I see it a lot when I watch some B2W vods. I see it the most when just playing ladder, whether its w3c ladder or bnet ladder. Its at the point now where if I see a thumbnail for a vod and I see BM, DH or DK first, I look for another vod.
Then there's artificial skill checks. I understand that skill expression is a huge part of the game, especially PvP games. I play fighting games a lot so I get it. But some checks in RTS just feel artificial. For example, starcraft 2 is often talked about as if its a macro game. Honestly it feels like a micro game.
Stimming marines and marauders so they can deal optimal damage. Boosting medivacs for optimal drop timings. Hitting inject timings with queens with 5+ bases. Things like that make me wonder "did they think players (not just PvP players) would enjoy executing this or did they think it would be better for esports viewership?"
Neo is so wrong about the balance. Pala rifle is still imba
This a fact, not an opinion. If you don't believe me, go try it in a custom game. 30 food rifles vs 30 food fiends and you will see rifles will completely destroy fiends. They need another nerf
Is Lemes related to saul apeman?
They look a lot alike (freakishly). They are both polish players who advocate for pali rifles. I can't find Lemes real name, which makes it even fishier. It would explain why saul apeman is so connected even though he wasn't that famous. He came out of nowhere it seems.
amazing idea for Wc3, pro scene, and w3champions. w3champions plz read aand consider
i think i have a kickass idea
create a game mode in w3champions where it is 4v4, and each team is garunteed one of each race. you can queue to select race (or any) and you can select any amount of races in your queue
your MMR will be considered as being equal for all races (in terms of team making) and i think things will sort itself out and teams will just overall start to get balanced once people only queue a race if they are confident in it. i think having different MMRs for different races would get hectic
next, make the MMR spread for matchmaking very wide. meaning, queues should be short, and sure teams might be very uneven sometimes but i think its worth it for lower queue time
then next. i bet this will start getting popular and fun, and then probably in the future we can have 4v4 showmatch tournaments with pros and who knows.... i really think something like this could rival league of legends on entertainment
also whats cool is. this idea could be done right now, doesnt need any balance changes
i think overall, a team game kinda ends up being more fun and gets more hyper than a 1v1 game. which is why league of legends is so popular to watch
Netease Guide for American Players
Does anyone have an up to date guide for playing on netease in the Americas? None of the ones out there seem to work and they are all 7+ years old.
An idea for necromancers
How about making Skeletal Mastery not a separate upgrade, but a part of Necromancer Master Training? I think it may also require some adjustments for Cripple though, like cutting it by half for example. But in my opinion it might bring Necroes to broader use outside of necro-vagon strat.
I'd also delete the Rod of Negation and give Devour Magic to the statues, but that may be too much.
Noob question, pls help
Oy, I came back and finally got out of my 19% WR prison. Got from 300 MMR on warcraftchampions to 888 and growing.
But I still find it very difficult to deal with some builds. Could you give me some general tips for them?
For undead :
- Dreadlord sleep surrounds from the start of the game
- Crypt lord beetles rush
Human:
- Tower rush
Orc:
- Blade creep jack early on (how do you even stop him for real??)
Night elf:
- Mass bears
I play orc. Most of these are early game things. I see that once I get out of the early game I literally never lose anymore, but my early game seems trash since that is where all my loses are. I just feel like unless i go farseer first and have a shop and have ~2 units made already I just cannot stand a chance at all. And I really dont like playing farseer to be honest, so I also dont pick him that much, but even when I do, if I tier up fast I just lose because I cannot handle these
What maps do you want to see on 4v4 map rotation? (Bnet)
My top picks:
Gold rush, Friends, The crucible, Golems in the mist, Last man Standing, Dragonfalls, Cherryville
