What would she think about the fact that the median income for most middle-class workers and citizens is around 50 to 100K dollars in some first-world countries today, and many people can afford decent housing, indoor plumbing; as well as regularly consume fast food, fresh fruits, sweets, Ice Cream and chocolate from a nearby restaurant/or bakery—and even shop for clothes from a supermarket? Then she learns about inflation and modern living costs. 💀😭
Still though, many ordinary families can live in comfortable apartments, or even a house with two to three bedrooms, TVs, refrigerators, sofas, a living room and also two bathrooms. Or that people can watch all sorts of TV series, anime, movies/dramas, news and World events as they unfold (including international politics and war)? And of course, almost anyone can stream and listen to music daily on their smartphones LOL!
Not to mention, the Global literacy rate is currently at 87%, primary/middle-school education is mandatory in most countries, and even High-school is relatively common nowadays. While some professions require a University/college degree just for a higher income! 💀
But imagine her reaction to the fact that many people have to study from ages 6 to 20 or 22, just to be elligible for employement, then work multiple jobs for Big corporations for another 40+ years—and hope to save enough money for retirement by 60~65, but they'll still have to pay taxes for the rest of their lives.
Wait until she finds out that 3,000 billionaires on the entire planet control 10% of all Global wealth, despite making up less than 1 in 2 million of the human population—but only 15~20 of them are actual members of Royalty or Nobility. 💔
Just to put things into perspective; the average European Noble/aristocratic family today is roughly 100~200 times wealthier than the average person, which is still 100 times less wealthy than the average billionaire—who is hundreds of times lesser than Elon Musk. Let that sink in 😭

A bit of a lighter chapter while I get my bearings on what I want for the rest of the festival arc. The next part of Way Of The Maid is coming, with the creme brulée, but I'm going to do some original art for the arc, too.
Secondly, this edit isn't a main manga chapter, as you can see. Instead, it's from Maid's Kitchen, a SOL miniseries published on the same magazine, Comic Yurihime. First chapter honestly was kind of boring, but I like this one better. I'm probably going to read this while I wait for chapter 64 to come out.
Thirdly, I didn't know what a Cake Salé was until looking it up. I don't like ham, so imagine my horror as I looked at a cake with my arch nemesis in pork form front and center.

Basically, I recently had the intrusive thought if, despite not even finishing part 1 of the series in terms of planning for Brainrot, coming up with the idea for a version of TAAFM for the AU. Mostly because I came up with way too good of a parody title. I couldn't not think about the idea of calling it "Put 'Em Up and Fight Me", and it has since ruined my day because May's hair genuinely gave me headaches for some reason. I've only just started art, bear with me if it wildly fluctuates in quality.
The idea was that it is kinda an entirely original plot following, pretty much, directly from part 1 of Wataoshi to the time period of TAAFM. Some stuff from vol. 3-5 happen, but not to the extent in canon.
Anyways, Claire and Rei adopt Aleah and May like in canon, but the biggest difference comes from one thing: Aleah and May grow to genuinely DESPISE the other as they reach high school, where now their beef has basically spread to their immediate circle of friends and extended family. Mostly due to them being compared to one another. Maybe also being a very specific series of events kickstarting the beef, idk.
Aleah probably acts more like early canon Claire and a bit of Misha, and May takes more after canon Rei and Brainrot Rod in the enthusiasm and violemce department. A calculating, strategizing villainess-type character, and her sister who just wants to punch her lights out. All as their mothers are currently trying to calm them down to absolutely no avail.

If this chapter is a bit awkwardly paced, I'm sorry, primarily what I'm doing is seeing how I can play around with the format to make the Manaria arc a bit more bearable to write around by adding pages. It's just an incredibly straight-forward arc.
And also providing probably one of the biggest differences from canon Wataoshi aside from personalities and Rei's backstory : Rod and Lene are now the first people who know Rei's at least not from their time, if not from their world entirely. I'm setting up a bit about Rei knowing about the Commoner Movement right after the cafe, too.
Hey guys, Aussie WataOshi fan here! Been interested in trying to finish my LN collection but it seems like Volume 5 is scarce atm... Does anyone have any tips on finding it or would be willing to sell theirs for a decent price? Oh and I mean the paperback, I don't really like online versions tbh. Shame that eBay mainly has that knockoff versions though
