Watanare Doujinshi part 2 full english translation

Hi everyone, Enel here :)

Back again with the second part to this doujinshi series of Watanare by Eku Takeshima and Teren Mikami. Reminder that this is NOT canon and spoilers are ahead.

Reddit limits the number of images I can upload, so the rest can be found on mangadex and Kagane

I'm still learning how to typeset, but hopefully this one is a little more polished than the last chaper. Shout out to Salt for helping me clean most of these pages

Please enjoy!

A theory about Kaho’s family life

I was thinking:

In the world of Watanare, what if it’s normal for the man to take the woman’s surname when they get married?

As you already know (and for those who don’t), in Japan, when two people get married, it is normal for the woman to take her husband’s surname. Cases where the man takes his wife’s surname, or where both spouses keep their own surnames, are very rare.

With that said, why do I think that in Watanare, it might be normal for the man to take the woman’s surname?

In general, we don’t know much about the Quintet’s parents’ pasts. Two of the Quintet’s mothers are single mothers, while the other two only appear a few times. The scattered information Mikami Teren provides doesn’t help much either, and the families of the Quintet aren’t explored in much depth.

However, there is one member of the Quintet who can give us at least a little insight into this, and that is Kaho.

Kaho is Renako’s childhood friend, but at first, Renako didn’t recognize her because Kaho had drastically changed both her personality and her surname. Kaho’s current surname is Koyanagi, while her previous surname was Minaguchi.

Kaho explains that the change of surname happened because her parents got divorced and she went with her father. And this is where my question comes in: Why did they have to change their surname if, normally, the surname that is adopted is the man’s?

From this point onward, there is a lot of speculation, since we know very little about Kaho’s past. It’s possible that Kaho’s father chose to take Kaho’s mother’s surname, or that both of them agreed to keep their original surnames. It’s even possible that Kaho’s current surname is actually her stepmother’s surname.

Pop Up Parade figures & new plushies announced + close up photos.

I figure most people already know, but in case you missed the news, we have new official figures & plushies coming out! And this time they aren't just prizes you win at claw machines. I imagine these will be easier to aquire for people who don't live in Japan as they'll be available through Good Smile Company.

C108 Manga) I think Satsuki likes Renako

Looking at the way Satsuki is drawn in this manga, that really looks like the expression someone makes when they're looking at the person they have a crush on.

Don't give up hope on a season 2 (Cope post)

So a good amount of people, including some Japanese fans, expected that maybe we would get news of a season 2 at the Watanare event. However, that didn't happen, and so I imagine some people might think this means the chances of a season 2 are slim to none. But I honestly don't think that's true for a good number of reasons.

  1. Anime adaptations take time, and these announcements don't happen quick unless there was already early planning for more cours or seasons. We're only about year removed from the anime airing, so it's reasonable that we don't have a production decision made yet.

  2. The staff responsible for the adaptation have left Studio MOTHER and joined other studios, which further complicates things. This means any season 2 being greenlit will take a good while longer to happen, as they would have to re-gather a team for the production line, and have a clear schedule. This isn't even including the fact Studio MOTHER probably has other projects already scheduled that they can't change.

  3. The Manga adaptation is a good sign that Watanare is and will continue to thrive from its popularity. This is clearly an IP they want to continue to push, with that, plus all the new merch/collabs we continue to get.

  4. No anime **'right now'** means more eyes will inevitably be focused on the Manga, boosting its sales. It's probably smart to not have another season so soon and instead funnel those people to the Manga, who might not even be reading the novels.

  5. More subjective, but when Watanare passes 2M copies sold, it's gonna be one of the highest selling Yuri period. I refuse to believe they're just gonna ignore it and not capitalize on its popularity.

So I'm not doomposting for those reasons. Realistically, something needs to happen between 3-5 years from now. If by 2029 we're still hearing crickets & 0 hints of a second season, we can start being more cynical. Till then I will continue to have faith(cope).
