I decided to run a (paid) competition for the cover of my upcoming debut Dark Romantasy book - I aimed it at students or people who are just hiding in the background, sitting on some serious talent and the submissions I got were AMAZING.

But now I need to pick one.😩

I will admit, going into this, I had no idea what makes a good cover, and I was only really fascinated by the art.

Since then, I have read a lot about how the cover needs to signal the genre, the vibe, etc. But I was hoping there were some published authors floating about who would lend their eyes to these 16 covers and tell me what you think would be a good fit, but also what would be a good style/subject matter for the next 5 books to come 😬

Hi guys! I'm currently writing an original story called A Seat Beside Spring! It's a high school romcom set in Japan. If you like to read warm and fluffy romance stories with a dash of comedy, do give this a read. Looking forward to any and every feedback you guys give!

Anyway, I wanted to update some covers for my stuff. The new cover is first, vs the old cover, (yes, I retitled it because no-one knows what haecceity means (its a philosophical term separating a specific thing from just a generic version, eg, that sheep vs sheep in general)) the new one partly on FlippaClip, partly on Canva. The main character is supposed to look like that, just lightly tapping the uncanny valley effect.

I feel like this one has more of an impact because of his creepy, creepy face, and the minimal use of gold highlights his eyes and creates a clear link between him and the title. I wanted my readers to be able to pick up on some of the weird vibes people get from him.

Anyway, I did have 3 other versions to choose from, but I didn't like the way they looked so left them blank. But I do wanna know, do you guys have a preference between them?

Also sorry for the closeup jumpscare at the end.

I'm thinking about creating a story inspired by Far Cry 5. Those who have played it know it's all about a cult leader in a bright blossoming county. Behind the flowers and sunshine however is a lot of violence and death. So does this cover work for a story like that?

Hi! I'm looking to paint a book cover illustration for free.

I've been away from painting for quite a while, and I'd really like to get back into it by motivating myself through working on someone's story.

It's my first time creating a book cover and I'm looking for a project that fits my style, so I'll choose one submission that genuinely inspires me.

Please note:

• This is for the illustrated cover artwork only.
• I'll only take on one project at a time.
• No tight deadlines since I'm doing this in my free time.
• No major changes on the later stages of the painting.
• I don't want to associate myself with any work that contains illegal stuff.
