What matters most to you in a wedding PA system?

Hey everyone,

I work in the pro audio industry at Adam Hall / LD Systems and lately we’ve been discussing internally how different wedding gigs are compared to almost every other type of live event.

A lot of PA systems are still designed around traditional live sound priorities (output, SPL, coverage etc.) but weddings seem to come with a completely different set of expectations:

  • aesthetics
  • portability
  • fast setup/teardown
  • speech intelligibility
  • minimal visual impact
  • clean cable management
  • flexible indoor/outdoor use
  • systems that feel “premium” without looking intrusive

So instead of making assumptions, I’d genuinely love to hear directly from wedding DJs and people working weddings every weekend:

  • What matters most to you in a wedding PA setup?
  • What are your biggest frustrations with current systems?
  • What features do you wish existed specifically for wedding work?
  • What makes a setup feel perfect for ceremonies, dinner and party transitions?
  • How important are appearance and compactness compared to raw performance?
  • What are common mistakes manufacturers still make when designing PA systems for weddings?

Not trying to sell anything here, honestly just interested in learning from real-world experience and understanding what modern wedding DJs actually need from audio systems today.

Help! Disco/glam rock song Ideas for a non traditional wedding.

I’m in a pickle, after 5 meetings with the couple where they specifically told me not to deviate from their playlist… yesterday on our final call before the wedding tomorrow, they told me that I should take it as a guide more than a strict playlist.

I have all their tracks ready but some of them are not that great. They want a non traditional wedding that sounds disco/glam rock in the vybes of late 70’s to mid 80’s. No pitbull or taylor swift, not even shout by the isley brothers or hip hop… The songs don’t have to be from that era but sort of sound like that so like I have the purple disco remix of many songs like about damn time and others.

But I am running out of Ideas and so I’m Looking for my fellow wedding DJs to give me absolute bangers like rasputin and gimme gimme that will make old folks and young folks dance.

Help please! Thank you guys!!

Update!

Thank you all. Those recommendations really helped. I rocked that wedding. The dancefloor didn’t empty for a moment. I really enjoy DJing weddings, it’s my hobby and my favorite thing to do.

Upgrading from Toyota Sienna AWD — truck+trailer vs. Transit? High roof vs. low roof?

Current setup: Toyota Sienna AWD. Works fine but I’m outgrowing it. Ready to upgrade.

I service the Bay Area (SF, Oakland), Napa, Sonoma, Sacramento, and Lake Tahoe — so I’m dealing with everything from dense city parking to mountain passes.

Two options I keep going back and forth on:
Option A: Pickup truck + enclosed trailer
Option B: Ford Transit (or similar cargo van)
For those running the van route — high roof or low roof? I love the idea of being able to stand up and load/unload without contorting myself, but I’m genuinely worried about parking. SF and Oakland have a lot of garages with low clearance. Finding street parking that fits a high roof van in dense neighborhoods sounds like a recurring headache I don’t want.
Questions:
1. Truck + trailer people — do you regret it? Backing into venues, parking in tight lots, disconnecting just to park somewhere… is it worth the flexibility?
2. Van people — high roof owners specifically, how often does clearance actually bite you? Is it manageable or is it a constant thing?
3. Any van models besides Transit worth looking at for this use case? (Sprinter, ProMaster, NV2500, etc.)
4. AWD/4WD matters to me for Tahoe runs in winter — how are you handling that?
Appreciate any input from people actually gigging in metro areas.

Appreciate any insights y’all have!

Booth Suggestions

Looking into the Rockbooth Truss V2 and JMAZ Curved booth. Haven't seen either in person. Does anyone have experience with either?

I like the look of the curved booth. I would probably cut some holes in the back to make it more functional. The Rockbooth + truss bar looks convienient for my first mobile dj rig. But would love to see some pics of it in use at a wedding.

Thanks!

Do couples actually remember which DJ responded first?

do couples actually remember which DJ responded first?

Or is it more about who felt the most trustworthy throughout the process?

Like when couples are comparing DJs, I wonder if they end up remembering:

  • who looked the most established
  • who kept showing up during planning
  • who just felt easier to trust overall

Curious what other wedding DJs have noticed cause honestly i've seen inquiries go quiet for weeks and then randomly come back later..

Wedding guestbook app

Hi all!

I was wondering if any if you order services or recommendations outside of dj-ing, as part of like a package?

I built a wedding app and was exploring the idea to start marketing it to DJs so that they can sign up as an affiliate, but not sure if its a thing for djs to recommend other apps/services to the couple?

Would love to get more insight

Scam alert

Found a new type of scam today.

Got an email that seemed legit. Date, location questions all seemed okay.

We set up a Zoom meeting, but trying to connect through the link they sent -- phishing alert.

I sent a Zoom invite, but they were adamant that use the link they sent. They wanted me to download the "Zoom" link they sent, but when I said I wouldn't... ghosted.

Hello all, I am a local DJ in Wyoming and this year for Wedding season I will be traveling all over the state for weddings. I’m currently running some cheap but decent Pyle speakers I got off amazon but as my equipment updates I’m now in the market for some better speakers.

Some of these weddings will be outdoor, some will be indoor so I’m looking for something that kind of gives me the best of both worlds for each venue/area.

Current Equipment:
- DDJ-FLX10
- 16 Channel Mixer

Any recommendations are appreciated!
