Another fourth of July disaster

Driving West in i94 today- 1P
This truck was going 83 with two dogs in the open bed, and both were panting and trying to just tolerate the driver’s stupid decision.

I called it in- no clue what happened, but- to this idiot-
I hope karma leaves you in the back of a truck going 83 when it’s over 80 degrees.

My husband recently noticed this hole in the hood of his truck after going through a car wash. He contacted the car wash to ask if they could check their security footage to see whether the damage was already there when he arrived or not. They told him it appears the hole was present when he entered, but we’re still waiting to see the footage ourselves.

I guess it could be possible that the damage happened earlier and somehow went unnoticed, but neither of us can remember any recent incidents involving road debris or anything hitting the truck.

I know it’s impossible to determine the exact cause from photos, but does anyone have any ideas on what might have caused something like this? My mind immediately went to a bullet hole, which has me pretty anxious, but I’m hoping there’s a much more likely explanation. Any thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciated
