Visiting for a week with a 4 and 6 year old, what are the best things to do?

I have a few ideas but I would love to hear from locals. We have family in the area but I’m doing all the planning.

What are the best family friendly attractions and sights?

Sharing this 9news piece

I don't care about mayor Pro Tem confusion or whatever, I care about the mayor selling off our water without our say so. We don't really have any extra to spare these days.

Want to be in a Shakespeare play? No acting experience required!

Hello! I am producing and directing an independent production of Shakespeare’s HENRY V.

If you are an actor, thespian, or want to learn how (for free) you are welcome to message me!

No one will be paid (not even me) but you can use this opportunity to score some headshots (i have a Nikon camera), use this on your resume, or use this experience to apply for scholarships/programs and tell them you were in Henry V!

Or just score some free acting lessons, learn about Shakespeare, cross an item off your bucket list.

There will not be a requirement for accents, you are welcome to be as American as you are, or if you came to our country from somewhere else, that is fine too!

If you speak French or would like to learn some, let me know! (The french characters speak some french in the play)

I am editing the script for time, changing some of the lines, and overall the goal is to make it easier to perform. However, Henry V appears to have the least archaic diction and grammar of the Will S plays ive seen and read.

Since we are going to find a smaller venue to perform at, the costumes will be the set pieces and they will be made with the actor’s measurements in mind. Since i will be sewing these (former Jo-Ann’s employee, i survived the coupon wars) you don’t get to keep them… i may have to sell them, depending on life.

But, if this goes swimmingly, i want to do Macbeth and Midsummer Night’s Dream too! However, you can take selfies, get some free headshots for your portfolio, and vlog about the experience on your socials (please be respectful of others tho)

There are no skin color or gender requirements, the main lead of Henry V and the villain Le dauphin are already filled by POC. Black, white, asian, cis, trans, all are welcome so long as you are respectful, tolerant, not a bad faith actor, and not a creepy addict or pervert (i am a rape survivor and none of that will be tolerated, at all, in any capacity)

also, i have no issue casting women or trans in male character roles, and would love for you to have your chance to shine! There will also be nonspeaking roles, if you want to be a soldier and go to war with a foam sword, it will be team red vs blue (England/Britain vs France)

We are still in the infancy stage, soft goal of a December performance but we will wait till everyone is ready!

The only minimum requirement is you must be an adult. And not an awful person (no narcissists, sociopaths, or machiavellians need bother)

Little about me:

I am autistic and it was a late in life revelation. As it turns outs, the innate skills of “scripting” and “masking” are supercharged cheat codes for performance and public speaking.

I would like to make a life of struggle outside my own thespianism to have a meaning - to teach others how to speak public-ally, speak clearly, act and perform, and maybe give adults a chance they never had when they were younger.

I am donating a lot more of my time this year to helping people since i have to take a step back from school due to ptsd.

Let me know if you are interested,

Jason

(If you have never seen Henry V, look up “anonymous 2011 life of henry v” on youtube for a wonderful little blurb)

(Also if you saw The King on netflix with Timothee Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp, a large part of that film is based on this very play!)

Tracking datacenter developments in the front range

Started tracking some datacenter developments in the area. Figured I'd share with the community.

THE BIG ONE: APPROVED, THEN APPEALED

Colorado Springs approved its first big data center on June 11. The planning department signed off on Project Taurus, the conversion of the old Intel chip plant off Garden of the Gods Road, administratively, with no public hearing, because the site was already zoned for the use. The owner of record is 3G Venture II LLC; the plan reuses the building with new chiller and generator yards behind sound walls.

Then, just before the 5 p.m. Monday deadline, it got appealed, twice. One appeal goes to the City Planning Commission; a second came from a neighbor citing water use and the state's drought emergency. The approval stands while the appeals are pending, but the project now heads to a public hearing at the Planning Commission, with City Council as the final stop. The staff-counter approval that looked like a done deal just became a fight. For corridor landowners the takeaway holds either way: where the zoning already fits, these clear without a hearing, until someone appeals.

GLOBALAI IS CLOSE BEHIND

The GlobalAI data center on the old Carestream campus in unincorporated Weld is one step from a staff recommendation. The county file shows its special-review application (USR26-0019) cleared all three referral reviews on June 15 and now sits at a draft staff memo, due June 26. Unlike Colorado Springs, this one is headed for hearings: as a use by special review it goes to the Planning Commission and then the county commissioners. No date set.

THE BRAKES COME OUT

While those advanced, three places reached for the brake. Hudson went from talk to text: on June 17 a drafted ordinance, 26-13, "establishing a temporary moratorium on data center facilities in the Town," hit the Town Council agenda. We cannot confirm the vote yet, but the town at the center of the I-76 industrial corridor now has a moratorium in writing. Aurora is organizing too, with Councilmember Amy Wiles setting a data-center town hall for 6 p.m. June 29 at the Central Library and residents pushing for a moratorium of their own; Aurora is QTS country, so that fight carries weight. And Morgan County still has not adopted its data-center rules, with the hearing continued again, to June 23.

The shape of it: the approvals are administrative and fast, the brakes are local and slow, and the gap between them is where the next year of corridor value gets decided.

THE DOCKET

Xcel's large-load tariff case at the PUC, the best statewide read on which data-center demand is real, took a procedural step. The commission's interim decision (C26-0396-I, adopted June 10) admitted 18 intervenors as parties, granted Xcel's confidentiality request in part, and ordered a procedural schedule. The intervenor list is the tell: Google, Walmart, the Data Center Coalition, Monarch Energy, NRDC and Sierra Club, Black Hills, Denver, Boulder, United Power, and more. Nobody hires this much counsel over a hypothetical.

WHAT TO WATCH

- The Project Taurus appeal: a Planning Commission hearing date, once set.
- June 23: Morgan County's continued data-center rules hearing.
- June 26: the staff memo on GlobalAI in Weld.
- June 29: the Aurora data-center town hall.
- The Hudson moratorium (Ordinance 26-13): the June 17 vote, once the minutes post.

I'll be following these types of developments weekly and can make an email list if there is interest. If you want this to land in your inbox as opposed to your reddit feed, feel free to dm me your email.

Questions to ask at tonight’s Windsor Town Board meeting

  1. What is in the pre-annexation agreement?

Worry that all the terms of the development are being negotiated secretly, without residents voices being heard.

  1. “Captive” regulator?

Once a city annexes a project to gain the tax revenue, they become financially invested in the project's success. It becomes significantly harder for a city to enforce strict regulations against a project that is now their primary source of new revenue

  1. Water use?

Water is the primary leverage point. If Windsor needs to use its municipal water rights to sweeten the deal for the developer, they are prioritizing the data center’s consumption over the existing constraints on residential water usage.

We need an independent regulator. We need transparency. We need a community benefit agreement.
