Wooting 80 HE or Keychron Q1 HE

Guys hello i will buy high-end budget keyboard and after my research I found Wooting 80 HE, Keychron Q1 HE.
Keychron is 80 dollars less than Wooting and also Wooting is ABS, Keychron is metal.

I have dragon lore mouse and mousepad so I looked Huntsman V3 DL Edition but it is also 40 dollars more than Keychron.

Last keyboard is Apex Pro 3 TKL is about the same price as Keychron.

Which keyboard should I choose? I am playing CS usually.

[60he+] How To Set Up The Volume indicator?

Edit: seems its only for the 80he lightbar, regardless -  I wonder if Wooting could configure a way to bring it to the 60he like make the rgbs in a row light up / down to indicate volume percentage

-------------------

Original post:

Is there a way to set up the volume indicator for wooting60he+ ? I saw the background service offers it as a feature - but cannot seem to find if I can enable it up for my 60he+, I don't even know if its a thing for my model/make. The Wooting discord users don't know either.

Help with creating my dream Wooting as a first mechanical keyboard

EDIT: magnetic, not mechanical

Hey everyone,

I’m having trouble taking the next step in buying my dream keyboard (and also my first and also my only). It’s probably a pretty standard build for some of you, but for me this is a daunting project and I’ve got analysis paralysis. My total budget is like 400 euro's.

I’m hoping some of you can help me make sure I’m not overlooking any major upgrades or necessary parts, because I really can’t see myself undertaking another keyboard build after this one.

I think I want:

  • A matte white case
  • A thocky sound
  • A fairly classic, casual looking keyboard
  • Ideally, something that is great out of the box without requiring me to get into complicated modding/lubing. Of course, some part-picking and following basic instructions is what I'm okay with, else I would have picked something pre-assembled.

Parts I’m fairly sure about

1. Wooting 60HE v2 Module

I've read: Wooting: The difference between the 60HE and 60HE v2

Since I’m choosing my own case, switches and keycaps, I’m wondering how much of the 60HE v2’s improvements actually matter for my build.

  • What benefits of the v2 are still relevant to me?
  • Is there anything that comes with the module that I should replace with something better?
  • What exactly do I need to buy in addition to the module, case and switches to have a complete keyboard?
  • I'm especially clueless about:
Switch plate FR4 plate
Mounting style Friction fit
Sandwich pad Hybrid Poron/silicone
PET-film & tape mod PET-film & tape mod
Bottom dampening Plastic case: EPDM foam
Stabilizers Screw-in

Is this perfect? Is this okay-ish? I am willing to spend money to have something better if it's doable for a noob that does not want to have this buying anxiety again, but also wants something very cool.

2. Tofu60 Redux Case

KBDFans Tofu60 Redux

I mostly just really like the look of this one. I’m going for the matte white version.

I read that you can buy like a brass weight bar (see https://kbdfans.com/products/tofu60-redux-v1-accessories?variant=41491565969547) and other accessories. In combination with the rest I am buying, what would people recommend?

3.1 GravaStar UFO Switches

GravaStar UFO Magnetic Switches

These are currently my first choice.

Part of the reason I’m drawn to the UFOs is that they don’t require lubrication (I think?), which is a pretty big deal for me. I’ve never lubed switches before and it's scary to me. I found this Wooting Library entry and listened to them, and they sound great to me. I have very little reference for what a genuinely good mechanical keyboard sounds like, though, so I’m mostly going on what other people say.

People seem to consider them about as good as it gets acoustically for HE thocky, although I’m not sure whether they’re $80-good for someone with my limited experience.

If you think lubing is the freaking shit and I would regret not looking further into overcoming that fear: try to convince me haha.

A few questions about the GravaStars:

  • Why are there different colors? Is there actually a difference between them that you can hear/feel, or are they just cosmetic?
  • I think I should buy the 75-pack, correct?

3.2 Alternative: Omnitype Heron HE Switches

Omnitype Heron HE Switches

I’ve also been considering these because I’ve read that they are great overall.

My biggest hesitation is again the lubing.

4. Cable: https://wooting.io/product/detachable-cable?Color=Just+White

What am I missing?

So, with:

Wooting 60HE v2 + Tofu60 Redux + switches + my own keycaps

is there anything else I absolutely need?

And more importantly: is there anything I should change now that will make a significant difference to the final keyboard?

I know this is probably pretty basic stuff for many of you, but there is so much information out there that I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to figure out what actually matters.

I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have built something similar and can tell me what they would do differently.

Thanks so much in advance!

My HOPEFULLY Now Finished 80HE

https://preview.redd.it/s9336k04k6kh1.png?width=3670&format=png&auto=webp&s=227c3795172a312e74eed368eddafe9474a1fcd5

Been trying out so many different keycaps, and I've gone through some switches, but I now feel really happy with my 80HE and don't see myself changing much in the future.

Keycaps - GMK 'Abyssal' (I am aware some of the keys are not accurate to where they should be sadly; I wasn't provided the keys needed for a full UK Layout)

Switches - Keytok Novas (Having only gone through Lekker L60s, Geon RAWS, Gravastars, I have landed on these and I LOVEEE THEM. I don't have any issues with them like the previous stated to see myself switching.)

Case - Black KBDfans GT-80

extras: some poron foam underneath & some spacebar foam.

Send sos did my keyboard really broke my laptop??

Hello, I’ve had my Wooting 80HE for about half a month now, and I started encountering some issues after using it for almost a week. Suddenly, the keyboard became unrecognized by my laptop. My laptop is an ROG G16, so I assumed the issue was with my laptop. I took it to get fixed and deep-cleaned, but after the deep clean, my USB ports suddenly stopped working.

The worker told me that it was because the keyboard’s electrical current was too strong and that it probably damaged all of my USB ports. I was really confused because I only ever used my keyboard with the USB-C port, while my mouse was connected to the USB-A port. The USB ports only stopped working after the deep clean, so I’m confused about what could have caused this.

Aside from that, the keyboard also seems to only work for a short while on other devices and laptops before it stops functioning. It would light up and work for a few minutes, then suddenly stop lighting up altogether.

I’m getting really concerned and wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue or knows what might be causing this?

Is the 60he v2 worth buying?

I consider buying the wooting 60he v2 to upgrade my reddragon k617 but I have some questions first.

Is it really that good?
Is it reliable?
Will it last for over 5 years?
Does it have any downsides?

My gorgeous zinc Wooting 80HE after fifteen months...

Fifteen months isn't a small amount, but it's not a lot either... and yet the paint on the frame in the area of greatest wear is gone, chipped away... Sure, it can be fixed, but with what results? And if you wanted to have a professional job done, how much would it cost?

Also, the space bar has become shiny. Wasn't it PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) molded wit double-shot technology?

You could also say the keyboard has "patinated" with use... but I don't like seeing wear.

Any remedies?

60HE v2 silver vs bright silver same color or diff color?

Hello, looking to buy a Wooting 60HE v2 keyboard, and I just have a question. Is bright silver the same as silver? Was looking to buy the module and the case for the keyboard, but if I buy the case it'll be silver, but if I buy it pre-built its bright silver. So i'd just like to know if its the same silver or a different color? Thanks :D

To relieve myself about my new Wooting 80HE…

2 days ago I was so excited to finally get my Wooting 80HE. I waited a long time to finally be able to buy and use this keyboard. When I unboxed and plugged it in it was flashing rarely. I opened a thread in the dc and they told me it’s probably a loose jst cable and that helped a lot I fixed the issue. But first because it is so new I hesitated a lot about opening the interior of the keyboard and it still bothers me is there a way to be sure that I did everything correct during the disassembly/assembly process ? Seems like it works and looks just fine but I am kinda worried what can give me peace of mind ?

Wooting80HE

Espero ajudar. Abraços!

Case swap Tofu60 V2 question

I recently swapped the case into Tofu60 V2 and I noticed that the USB is misaligned by a really small amount. The USB C cable still plugs in and everything seems to be working correctly. It was just a friction swap so I'm not sure if this is normal, a case manufacturer error, or if I need to do the alternate installation method (non-friction swap). Any one have any ideas or recommendations?
