WordPress.com Premium won't let me install Astra! Should I migrate to Hostinger?

I'm currently building a website for my parents' restaurant. They're paying for the WordPress.com Premium plan. I made a website template using my own website to test it out using Astra, but I went to recreate it on their site, and I just found out they don't have access to Astra or Hello Elementor themes through the premium WordPress plan!

It's a bit of a joke because they already pay about €100, whereas for Hostinger, it's about €150 for 48 months(2 years), and I have access to both themes.

For context, For context, I've been using WordPress for a few years and have mainly built sites with Elementor and Astra. It's not a complex website; they don't need to have a booking system, as it's done over the phone. It's purely to make it more readable and have a more modern design.

I'm wondering what the best option is:

  • I am curious to know if I should stick to the current plan that renews in March 2027, and find free alternatives until then?
    • If so, what free themes can you recommend?
  • Or switch to Hostinger now, and that allows me to use these themes?
    • Hostinger is not worth it, I should change altogether?

This is a very frustrating process, so any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you for reading this. I'm hoping to start doing freelance web design in the future, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Anyone using Blocksy theme

Hi, this is my first post here. I am looking for a nice wordpress theme for my upcoming site that will be mostly about finance related. I had first selected Kadence but it seems it is purchased by liquid web and pricing is also changed.

Then I got to know about Blocksy theme from reddit. The theme is good and I checked the demo as well. One thing I noticed about Blocksy changelog is it includes only minor fixes and improvements but no major new features. Does this mean the theme is complete and will not longer get new features?. How long will they only keep fixing things but no additional features?

[FREEMIUM] I built a WebGL shader engine that works with any WordPress builder — just launched v1

Hey everyone, Just launched Addifect after building it for a while. The idea — add live WebGL shader effects to any WordPress site without switching builders or touching your theme. You create your effect in Addifect Studio, deploy it, then drop one line anywhere in your editor: [div data-addifect-block="hero"][/div] Works with Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg, Bricks, any theme. The entire addifect.com is built with my own tool — every effect you see on the page is running live. Free version on wp.org includes shaders to get started. Pro is $29 lifetime founder pricing right now. Would love feedback from anyone who tries it. 🔌 wordpress.org/plugins/addifect 🌐 addifect.com

WordPress theme for literary publication

Hello,

I am interning at a pretty prestegious literary magazine, and I have been tasked with improving their website. It is clear that the website does not match the publication's caliber, so I have proposed a change in WordPress theme. However, I have been unable to find one that feels minimalistic, serious, and literary—the ones I have looked at seem either too much like a newspaper, or too much like blogs. Can anyone recommend a theme suited to this purpose? This is a website with an extensive database of authors and articles. Thank you

what is the best way to transition from Figma design into a Classic them using Scss setup (brad schiff one)

Hi, so basically, i am working on a wordpress classic theme (learning purposes), my old way of doing things was to Design everything in figma and specifically instruct figma make (free tier) to make html fils and one style.css and that was it, i discoverd that this is a bad way since i want to start focusing on learning reather then increasing my technical debt,

latelly i converted a 3 designs pages, and honestly it's problematic for me to use the old way, since i am following (brad schiff) way of doing things with scss, and using @ wordpress/scripts of doing things, i find it pretty waste of time to convert one file to scss modules follwoing the SMACSS method, so i was thinking about a way where i don't have to minimize me typing design css anymore, (even though i said it it's for learning purposes) i thought that maybe there is a faster way to do it, so i am not talking about logic or functionality, i am just talking about the scss modules,

maybe i need to invest into thie transitioning process with thinking, because, it feels like a production line, from the design tokens of figma to html and scss (in which i would start scafhold it to a wp theme afterwards), all of that using the WP scripts, because i know that LLM are bad at context so they distroy your design in a matter of a prompt

it's just a 4 hours design

WHAT I TRIED:
i know ,i named the auto layouts
formilated good prompts

IS THERE A BETTER WAY THEN THIS, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOU OUT

Can I get a Double Check from Wordpress Redditors on the costs for a WP site?? Also SoCal User Groups??

So, my vision is to create multiple wordpress based websites, for example:

a personal portfolio site

a small ecommerece site

a sort of archival / historical website documenting underground music scenes

a biographical website for a deceased artist

Just to give you an idea of what I am trying to accomplish.

Using a Web builder (i.e. Wix) websites would cost about $25 a month per site, so, thats a no go.

I have already purchased all of my domains already.

If I go the Wordpress route, correct me if I am wrong please, ( go easy on me ) what I need is

  1. a Web host ( 1st year is cheaper, then following years anywhere from 180-360 depending)

  2. A Theme provider like Generatepress (No one really suggested any others, but I am open to other suggestions) which would be $150 a year, and includes the Generate Blocks Theme builder.

So for unlimited websites, I'm looking at $220 - $400 a year in up front costs.

Am I missing any additional costs here?

Because I am prepared to pay for hosting, pay for the theme and start building my multiple websites.

People seemed to recommend the same few Hosting sites, and they are all relatively comparable in price.

But I would love to get more leads on Theme providers. I'm a little bit familiar with Divi, but didn't feel very intuitive to me.

My other big ask is regarding Wordpress User Groups in the greater Los Angeles and surrounding city area. I'm a little bit old school like that, and I would really like to connect with some experienced Word Press gurus to ask more dumb questions in person. User groups were always the best way to learn new systems for me. So analog.

Wordpress is a real deep dive, and I'm hoping to find a user group, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again, the advice I've received from the WP forum on here has been very very helpful.

Wish me luck. - Cheers

[FREEMIUM] We built a WordPress plugin to turn REST APIs and RSS feeds into publishable WordPress content

Hi everyone,

We recently started working publicly on Ingestics, a WordPress plugin built for people who need to bring external content into WordPress without stitching together a stack of middleware tools.

The basic idea is simple:

REST APIs and RSS feeds should be able to become native WordPress content with proper preview, mapping, publishing control, source attribution, duplicate protection, and display options.

The use cases we are focusing on include:

Importing structured API data into WordPress posts or public custom post types

Fetching RSS/Atom feeds and publishing them into controlled WordPress workflows

Previewing requests before publishing

Mapping source fields into WordPress destinations

Assigning provider-level categories, tags, authors, and custom metadata in paid tiers

Scheduling recurring imports in paid tiers

Displaying imported content through WordPress-native output options

We are trying to make external-content automation feel less like a fragile connector chain and more like a WordPress-native content operation.

If you work with RSS feeds, APIs, content aggregation, affiliate/product feeds, local portals, job boards, or data-driven WordPress sites, I would be curious:

What is the hardest part of importing external content into WordPress for you: mapping, scheduling, duplicate control, media handling, source attribution, or something else?

Best theme for articles

I'm curious to hear what themes other WordPress users are using for article-based websites. I'm on a WordPress plan with my own custom domain, not the Business plan, so I'm limited to the themes available within WordPress.

Most of my content is long-form articles, and I'm looking for a theme that feels clean, professional, and uncluttered. I'd love something with a nice homepage that doesn't feel too busy, where visitors can easily find articles, contact information, and social media links. A good footer section for feeds, recent posts, or other useful content would also be a plus.

I'm also interested in themes that do a good job of encouraging newsletter subscriptions. It doesn't necessarily have to be aggressive, but I'd like readers to notice the subscribe option without it getting in the way of the reading experience.

Picking a theme

Hello everyone! I’m having an issue picking a theme. I need one that is not a blog and does not automatically add a shopping cart! I can’t seem to find an option. Anyone have suggestions?
