First workbench build — surprisingly soli

Just finished my first real workbench build and I’m honestly pretty happy with how it came out.

The usable work surface is 39” × 63” and the bench height is about 36”.

Built the frame using:

•	4×4 beams (10×10 cm)

•	2x3 lumber (roughly 7×5 cm)

For a first build, it feels surprisingly solid and sturdy.

The top is made from MDF because that’s what I already had on hand. I know MDF isn’t the best choice for moisture or heavy impacts, but it seemed good enough to get started and I can always upgrade the top later.

I also added height-adjustable casters, which let me roll the bench around when needed and then lower it onto solid feet for stability while working. That ended up being one of my favorite features.

Other details:

•	middle storage shelf

•	built-in space for my table saw/circular saw setup

•	open storage underneath for tools and materials

I learned a ton during this project, especially since it’s my first build at this scale.

Would love to hear your thoughts:

•	What would you change?

•	Any upgrades you’d recommend?

•	Anything I should watch out for long term with this design?

Thanks!

New upgrades to my workshop

I’ve build my container studio from the ground up, all materials used are reclaimed, the absolute best and latest improvement is the new lighting 💡and better storage solutions, I can’t wait to add an extra floor !

Show me your creative & ergonomic metal stock racks!!! Anybody ever utilize overhead space above saw?

Building my new shop and if I can find a practical & ergonomic route for a stock rack that doesn’t take up much indoor real estate & right by the saw I’d rather keep most of it indoors to minimize PNW’s aggressively corrosive weather, at least for lighter materials. Had my main steel rack at my last shop tied to the roof framing above saw area at my old place which was convenient so I’m considering a similar approach here at the new shop with sectional cross-members tied to the steel framing that i’ll be welding in soon, possibly with a minor pitch & lip (pictured). But regardless of orientation or location, show me your creative diy stock racks for my inspiration/your flex.

If it's not in my hand, it's on the wall.

Just sharing some progress on the reorganization. Still have plenty of pegboard to fill, but having the essentials and the heavy cords within arm's reach is a total game changer.

Saturday shop organization

Finally got the workspace dialed in. Everything from the heavy tools to the battery station has a home now.

Flooring advice?

I’m slowly improving my single-car garage workspace and am looking at options for flooring. Was wandering around Lowe’s yesterday and found these on the back wall. They’re thick, heavy, rubber. Interlocking 3x3 tile mats. Just wondering if anyone has used them for larger areas? My shop isn’t huge and I’m only considering flooring on the back half. The biggest downside I can see is they’re made for drainage, so the holes are open, meaning lots of sawdust just passing through. But nothing a shop vac can’t clean up once a week.
