Hi! Between Oath in Felghana and Memories of Celceta, what game would you recommend?

Unfortunately, I never played an action JRPG more set into the fantasy style, if I don’t count with the Monster Hunter games or Bloodborne, which is something I always wanted to expand on.

I would love a game which isn’t turn based, with a good story, action, ambience and soundtrack. I don’t mind if the game is challenging, and it’ll be even better if it has a good immersion. I found about the Ys games, and they look very cool.

Both games in the title are with a kind discount on playstation, but I’m planning to buy other games as welll, so I’m torn between choosing one of the two. As side note, I also dream about playing Nier Automata in the future, but it is too pricey for me at the moment lol

I appreciate any advice for my choice, thank you!

Edit: I looked up for gameplay in both games, I really enjoyed the 2D style in Oath in Felghana, looks sweet

Finished my first YS game and looking what game to play next

Hello guys, as the title says I finished my first YS game which was Lacrimosa of Dana. I absolutely loved chemistry between characters, combat, whole exploration system and side quests that just added so many more details. I also loved whole lore drop with Wardens of Evolution and whole last chapter. I really want to play in chronological order but I wanted to ask will I have hard time with YS 1 and 2? I am not such a skilled player and does the Steam port have easy difficulty and will I be able to get used to that weird combat system?

Thank you in advance!

How do we feel about Proud Nordics bonus content?

Hey guys! I've been on an Ys kick recently and have been barreling through Ys X!

I was wondering what people's thoughts on the Oland Island bonus content is? I just started chapter 6 and got through all the side quests and "discoveries" I hadn't already (took me about 4 hours haha, I was locked in!!!), and I noticed that I was insanely overleveled for Oland Island! I'm not doing any grinding, just general exploration, so I was curious on why that was, especially considering I wasn't OP for the chapter 5 boss or anything.

I wanted to know if that was a consistent thing, and what if I should anticipate running past the hundreds of enemies they throw at you from now on haha. Would love to know everyone's thoughts!

YS X: PROUD NORDICS HAS BEEN A REAL SURPRISE

[NO SPOILER, Please note that I have played (besides X) Ys I, II and Origins]

Throughout my honoured and decades-long video game career, many famous titles and series have passed me by without me playing them. Some because I didn't care, some because I didn't have time. But I've never been faced with a series over forty years old and over fifteen titles under its belt... and even heard about it. I am from Italy and apparently in this country there is no community or interest at all in the series.

In fact, it was only in 2023 that I discovered Ys series, when someone recommended Ys Origins. In hindsight, it wasn't a great idea, given how the title serves to give context to the events of the first two Ys, which I played immediately after. Probably because Origins is the only title that has been localised in Italian. I informed myself and learned that the tenth chapter was in production and therefore waited. A few months ago, I discovered that not only had the tenth chapter come out, but a "definitive" version had come out in February of this year. I took the opportunity to replay Ys I, II and Origins again, but they were "old" titles, I wanted to see what the saga was like "now". And that "now" time is Ys X: Proud Nordics.

And let me say one thing: to say that it is a crime for such a title to have, at least in Italy, gone completely unnoticed. Not only is the game - like everyone in the saga, apparently - independent of the others, but it is also incredibly well done. I'm surprised that if I hadn't gone out of my own free will to look for it, I probably never would have played it!

In fact, the strangest thing is that it has no particular strength, every single component of it is good without any excellence, but the whole thing is balanced so well between the parts that the resulting game is a beauty. It is like having dinner in a restaurant where every course is good, you can't say that one of them is exceptional, yet you leave completely satisfied, full and wanting to return.

Paradoxically, the first few hours are the most boring ones, in which you have to get familiar with the controls and not all the functions are unlocked, but after about ten hours you are already inside the gameplay, made up of exploration and real-time combat both classic and naval (both managed in a very action-oriented way). The game maps aren't overly large, with side activities taking up just the right amount of space without ever engulfing the gameplay. The relationship between the two protagonists is really well done, and in the last third of the game the plot takes a very interesting narrative turn that kept me glued. To finish it, I needed almost 60 hours, during which I did most of the activities. I'm not kidding when I say that it is one of the best titles I have played in the last five years!

In another post, I stated my intention to get play all the titles in the saga, and while I still don't know if I will (although I have already purchased Memories of Celceta) I can still say that playing Ys X was perhaps my best idea in 2026!

New To Ys Series And.... Wow!

So fwiw, I have a backlog of four Ys games on GOG but never got the chance to play them. Recently, I got a PlayStation 5 and decided to download the Ys X Nordics demo and.... I'm quite impressed.

The gameplay and combat feels so fluid and lots of fun. It almost brings me back to the days of all the old school JRPGs I played as a kid.

Not only that but the demo itself is long and quite generous. I was kind of surprised but how much dialogue there is considering I also have many of the Trails games also by Falcom.

All in all, I'm definitely going to be buying Ys games on the PS5. This is one hell of a good game and series.

Ys Games on Sale on Humble Right Now

Just a PSA that certain Ys titles are on sale for pretty decent discounts on Humble right now. I've been wanting to pick up a lot of the older titles so this seemed like a good time to do so. Notably Ys 8/9/10 are not on sale at this time.

Absolutely insane Dogi is playable in 1 mainline game.

Talking about Adol’s best friend and like day-one shooter who’s been by his side through thick and thin and has weathered god knows how many storms, and he’s only playable in YS seven out of the mainline games and then one mobile game I didn’t even know existed till like five minutes ago and a non-canon fighting game with Trails. Absolutely insanity

I learned that Legacy of Ys - Book 1 & 2 for the NDS has [Normal] option for controls. Meaning (A button) sword slash!

I sadly skipped Books 1&2 on PSP and watched the anime before doing the PSP trilogy of Oath, Ark and Seven.

Now discover Legacy of Ys - books 1&2 for the DS and it has a Non-Bump-Combat option for PSP era style sword slash.. 🗡 😎

do you think we could get a remaster of this?

or do you think if they were going to, they’d have done it before origins and oath?

ys vi on ps2 was my introduction to the series and i’d love to have a collector’s edition like they’ve made for the recent remasters.

After Ys X and VIII, what should I play?

Ive really enjoyed the Ys games ive played, especially given their emphasis on building up a sort of homebase. My favorite game so far has been Nordics. What other games can scratch the same itch as the 3D Ys games?

Deleted official remixes?

I remember there being a few remixes I believe on the official falcom music channel on YouTube. Notably Scias. But when looking recently I can only find the original! Even looking at google the stupid ai tells me there never was a remix, and I simply can't find anything...

I remember it mostly being the same, but with an extended intro with more prominent flutes / wind instruments and being about 5 minutes long. It was definitely different enough for me to want that version! I would be willing to purchase an album or this song in specific but I don't know what to even search for...am I insane and not remembering? Am I just missing it? I hope someone can help me out!

Do Warrior Seals stack?

Idk why it just feels like Karja's skills are taking forever to master. It also doesn't help when the AI Partner keeps killing the enemies I'm grinding on.

Has anyone tried the coop and how is it?

For context, I am trying to introduce a good friend of mine into the ys series since I pitched to him that this series has some of the most satisfying combat gameplay out of any of the games I have played. I am looking for suggestions and feedback on the coop experience for the pc ports of the ys games.

What game should we try that will provide the coop experience similar to the single player combat gameplay?

Any recommended games in the event none of the ys coop pc ports are worth playing that may give us the ys combat feel in coop?
