Finally it is done

Finished my first YS game today! (YS Memoire: The Oath in Felghana)

I’ve owned a few of these games for awhile now but never got around to committing to them. Mainly my own fault, but I digress. I randomly saw someone doing one of the boss fights in this game and on impulse decided to grab it because I had some unexpected Eshop credit sitting.

When I tell you this might be the best impulsive purchase I’ve ever made… man… I don’t know what I was expecting from this, but I got it and more.

Being on the shorter side was favorable for me because I’m juggling a lot of things both in life and games in general because my attention span is horrible these days.

The story was very straightforward. I enjoyed it despite the short length and the few characters that were introduced

Loved the soundtrack throughout. I won’t say it’s an all favorite or even close, but definitely some good tunes here. I think I liked the exploration theme in between going to different locations the most.

I think by far though my favorite thing about this game and the seller for me was the gameplay itself and the difficulty. Some of these bosses were TOUGH. And this was playing on normal. Nothing that was unfair, and was mostly me needing to learn a pattern and not get greedy. Chester V2 was probably one of my favorite boss fights. Gabalan was probably the most challenging for me getting by phase 2 but it was also an incredible fight and a very rewarding victory.

Definitely going to do a second run of this on inferno eventually, and also going to do the boss rush mode. 15 or so hours well spent and I can see myself getting a lot more out of this one.

Not sure which YS game I’ll tackle next. I started VIII on my steam deck awhile back so I might return to that soon. I also own IX and Origins.

In any case so glad I finished this game and looking forward to getting into the rest of the series!

All 6 Switch 1 Ys games

Now that Ys Memoire Revelations in Celceta has been finally released in English on the Switch, there are 6 Switch 1 Ys games. (Yes I know there is Ys X Proud Nordics but that's Switch 2) I can't wait for more Ys games to come. What games do you think we should get remastered next?

Fairly new to the series. Help with the order?

Hello, my first Ys was Lacrimosa of Dana and I am seriously eyeballing on getting Monstrum Nox. And currently playing Origin. But I feel like I am playing on shuffle. Is there a chronological order that the Ys games SHOULD be played? So I won't miss any detail. I really love the gameplay, the action and the characters / story so far! Really wanna get involved and learn all that I can for the series.

PS: I own a ps3/4/5 and a fairly ok gaming laptop. So I have access to any games that are supported by those systems.

Thanks in advance.

What is the developer intended play order for Ys games?

I kinda feel stupid but after reading Digital Emelas I'm still puzzled on whether I should follow the story path or release path. I want to play the games in the order developers intended but I don't which one is that. Could you please help me out? I only know that Ys 1 and 2 are the two first games.

Ys Origin - Yunica appreciation post. No spoilers.

Man Yunica really is the ultimate gigachad. Magic? Nah I got this axe and raw strength. How can I feel sorry for her being an outsider, she is the ultimate raw power machine. They trashed her, but she came back stronger. Room full of mages and they do nothing than random mambo jambo and obvious work. Meanwhile Yunica is climbing the tower with raw power. Gotta love her man.

If you are running a Vampire campaing in the near future, this playlist is a great companion to the game. Enjoy in shuffle or sequentially.

Ys 7 - Finished. Did the final boss battles during a rainstorm~

Was good for the atmosphere, and afterward, I could blame the rain for my tears from the final cutscene.

The Ys Game That Should Have Been a Full Remake

I almost cancelled my pre-order for Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta because I really didn’t enjoy the combat system in Ys X: Nordics.

Instead, while waiting, I picked up Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana on sale on the eShop. I ended up loving it. It had so much charm that I actually played through it twice, which almost never happens for me.

So eventually Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta arrived, and honestly, while it’s definitely not on the level of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, I still think it’s better than Ys X: Nordics.

The biggest issue is that it still feels very dated. The locked camera and low-resolution textures really remind you that this is basically a polished PlayStation Vita port rather than a full remake.

And that feels like a missed opportunity, because the core game is genuinely strong. If they had rebuilt this with the same engine and visual quality as Ys X, this could easily have been one of the best games available on Nintendo Switch 2.

I made a co-op mod for Ys I & 2 Chronicles for PC!

All the necessary instructions, details, and download can be found from the GitHub page, but basically you just extract the zip in the game folder and play.

I got the idea to do this since in both games you have a temporary party member of sorts, and because the controls are very simple. Long story short, the idea worked, and I have finished co-op playthroughs of both games with a friend I was testing with! I think it's great fun, the added quicksave and regen speedup features also help keep the downtime low.

I would recommend having played them unmodded first for the original experience, then doing co-op in Nightmare difficulty, but anything goes. However, testing was done on Nightmare and I haven't worked on Time Trials specifically so they don't fully work.

Let me know if you find any major issues or if you have any suggestions! I could also make a separate mod for just the quicksave and regen speedup if people want that.

Here's a gif from when I was testing boss targeting in Ys 1: giphy

Adol, you idiot!!

In five years, I’m definitely coming back!

ぜったい ぜったい ぜったい ぜったい いい女になってるからさぁ!

Beaten Ys V. Playtime: 8 hours.

While some parts of the story were a bit confusing, the final twist was quite interesting. Adol and Terra didn’t have much screen time together, but their interactions were cute—I’d like to see them again someday. Here’s a screenshot of their final farewell scene.

Turns out I had enough on my account!

I had enough money on one of my work accounts for an Amazon gift card, that had enough money for proud nordics! I'm planning on finishing run number 3 of ys 9 this weekend, then I should be able to start my run of ys 10 next week!

Advantages of playing in any particular order?

(Edit: if I haven't responded, I am away from Reddit but I'll try to respond to everyone!)

TLDR; what are the benefits of playing by lore order, versus release order, and what do you recommend?

Hello guys! Just went through Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles and have Ys Origin lined up waiting to go on sale on Playstation to get the full effect lorewise. I have been going back and forth trying to decide what to play afterwards.

I know there are only minor references that are missed playing out of order. I would like to avoid those no matter how small. This is important for me because I heard that Ys VI and then maybe Ys IX (can't remember) where there's supposed to be an amalgamation of lore points that come together and I'd love to be able to feel that punch in full effect when I get there.

I also know one of the issues mentioned is the changing between different fighting systems. I don't care about that. If anything it might make the journey more interesting, although it doesn't make a difference to me one way or another.

So after I wrap up my Origins playthrough after 1 and 2, the timeline mentions Ys X as the next chronological game, followed by Ys IV then Ys III which I have both. Assume money is no issue for me. How would it affect my journey buying Nordics and then playing Celceta and so forth?

If you have an opinion on why playing in lore order *doesn't* work, I'd love to hear about your experience and thoughts as well. I'd love to hear if there are any negatives of going that route versus going in game release order, etc. In that case I'd love to get specific orders you'd recommend doing.

I know these posts must be aplenty but I am still struggling to find an answer to my questions besides a lot of hands off "it doesn't matter" posts. I want to find people who have actual opinions and not a lax approach, even if most people can get away with playing that way. Thank you guys in advance!
