Solari Arc 1 - how was it?

I listened to the first few episodes and found it wasn't quite clicking/was a bit frustrated by some character choices, so fell off. I love the whole cast and think they're great storytellers, but this just wasn't grabbing me. I'm wondering if I should try catching up or if it wasn't for me then, it just won't be.

For people who stuck with it, now that Arc 1 of Solari is concluded, how do you feel about it overall? Does the story feel settled and do you feel invested? I saw positive things about the preludes in particular and I wonder if those help to situate it better.

Thanks!

(Sorry if there's already a similar discussion, I couldn't find one.)

I still have yet to receive my backerkit email! I paid in full and have emailed the help email twice.

I don't know what to do. I want to respect that they are a small team, but I really don't want to have just lit that money on fire.

Looking for Celtic mythology book Brennan recommended?

Brennan has talked about how growing up, his mom would read to him traditional Celtic mythology stories, and I’m pretty sure he’s mentioned a specific book (that maybe Erika was also familiar with?) in a fireside episode.

I really want to get that book but I can’t remember what it was called. Does anyone know what it was or what episode they talked about it?

Prologues helped my character confusion

When listening to the first few episodes I was confused about Chee's character. With her introduction and some of the early firesides I was expecting a Han Solo-esque space swash buckler. Then over the course of the story I was confused about why she was being so accommodating and nice about this take over of her business. I was like "where is all the swashbuckling?". Now with the prologues I see much clearer. Acquiescing to greater powers is her power. The one time she stood firm and said no she was pretty much killed. I can understand why she might be more willing to let this take over happen after the events of the "revolution". Anything to keep the green dream alive. I am curious to see how the adventure continues with a businesswoman, a noble kid, and a therapist. Not the typical space adventure heros you expect, but still very excited!

I embroidred Ame's fox

In my homegame I play as a witch. Inspired by Erika's character and the patreon class.

In my character's (Abby) backstory she is the only witch left on the continent of our main campaign. They were all wiped out in a rebellion. But she does have a cloak with patches she got from all of her sisters.

For my ren-fair type outfit I am actually making those patches. So I made one inspired by the original witch, Ame.

(Yes, the fox is wonky. My skills are still developping.)

Flicker concept

toyed around with the idea of what Flicker would look like :p in hindsight, I should’ve made his wax colored. Might’ve made him pop and feel more magical.

Listening Logistics

Hi Entrepid Heros! I'm a new listener and can't figure out a way to listen to the main podcast and have the fireside qued up immideatly after. It looks like Pateron only has the fireside chats. So will I have to constantly switch between Spotify for the main story and Patreon for the aftershow?

Before I start trying to fix it, has anyone else not received their Kickstarter email yet?

I know they said to reach out if it doesn't happen by the 14th, but I'm just trying to gauge if I have an issue or an ISSUE.

(POSSIBLE SPOILER) Questions ab Solari (Up to ep 11)

What exactly is the 40 suns? What is a trent? Why is the arena losing their sun? What is gennapar (probably misspelled that?) or gennesac tavo???? Like is it a planet or a company? Do Chee still own that place she worked at in the prologue? I need a glossary tbh.

Help looking for a quote after the name cloak and Brennan’s narration on the sky?

I could be misremembering but I remember after the name cloak, possibly in a slightly later episode Brennan refers to Suvi and towards the end says something along the lines “for what could be more great and vast than the magnificent sky?”

If someone can help me find it that would be much appreciated!

My husband and I just had our second baby boy and during the pregnancy I thought of the name Sky, completely forgetting about the mighty Wizard herself. But it feels extremely fitting for the whole journey to him being here. Thanks for the help!

Coven related to widows?

I'm trying to create a subclass for a campaign I'm in that's playing my real life husband's estranged wife, who (from his idea) is the witch who takes care of widows, married him thinking he was highly likely to die because of all the crazy shit he does, and is a little annoyed that he's still alive, but can't kill him or actively harm him (cause of love and witch reasons). His character's clone just died in a session and so there's a thought that this might be a fun time for her to show up, cause now she's a widow but not really, cause he's still here. What spells in your mind would she have always prepared, or subclass features? I'm thinking something between coven of the heart and wicked, but she's not evil, just takes care of widows.

Latest Recommendations?

Does anyone have any recommendations for other ttrpg podcasts, storytelling podcasts, or other media that you’ve been loving lately in the vein of WWW*? I’ve seen these sort of recommendations posts in the /D20 or /dnd groups, but don’t think I’ve seen a recommendation post in this specific group in quite some time (1+ yr?). I find that a lot of recommendations in related groups are mostly heavily comedy based when that’s not what I generally like. What I enjoy most about the WWW is that it’s quite a heavy, serious story with real stakes, although balanced with silly and lighthearted moments (and obviously with the fantasy elements). I just haven’t found anything quite like it that scratches that itch for me. 😕 So, what have people been into lately?

*specifically not calling out Solari in this post. even though i absolutely love sci-fi, i feel like it’s still a bit too early for me to know how i feel about Solari just yet.

EDIT: Thank you so much everyone! There was only two shows I've heard of before; all of the the other recommendations were brand new to me, so I'll definitely check everything out! <3

I don’t know if this was the intention, but I figured out how the Coven works

WUBRG: White, Black, Blue, Red, Green. The 5 colors in magic, but also in a lot of DnD settings.

White is community, coming together, maintaining order

Black is entropy, undead, death and the end of all things

Blue is intellect, the reliance of the self and innovation, magic and often affecting the mind of others

Red is action, responding to threats to disposing of them before they become them. Compounding fire and gasoline and the blood of enemies to punish who oppose you.

Green is tenacity, things will change in due time if you let them and you hold strong. Green grows as the other colors fight.

THESE ARE THE 5 WITCHES.

Red- Gramore is literally covered in blood and reacts to primal and gives out primal fear.

Black- Mirara is the embodiment of the unknown, allowing entropy to enter the world and letting a plague of the Stanger’s Warlocks in Rhuv to just do what they want like an undead plague.

Green- Obviously Hakea is the embodiment of the relentlessness of nature, surviving from day one and never giving up her seat. Her presence makes other people exhausted bc she’s been around so long.

When I brought this up to my husband he said “so Indri is blue”

Blue- Indri, the winter queen. This sounds weird until you realize that her entire domain is the desire to understand the wind and stars, and to understand herself. She doesn’t care for company and wishes to delve the realm at her own pace. Her saving throw is command of one’s one understanding of desire, which is a blue move if I’ve seen one

White- Amé! Witch of the World’s Heart, she cares so greatly for community and wants to see life on Umora continue. It’s very cute that Amé is dressed in all white for these events.

This explains the coven meetings- White is opposed to Red and Black- Mirara and Grimore teaming up to try to kill her immediately.

This also explains Indri’s actions- Blue is allied to White and Black- the brain is trying to pit good against evil to silence them both so she can take on Red and Green.

This explains why Sky and Indri connect so much, I take Suvi at this time to be a Blue/Red Izzet, and Indri’s library is a source of immense knowledge.

This explains why Hakea’s spirits like Bear so much, he’s very much a Green/red at this point and they want to steer him to black instead of white. They are interested in if he will steer blue but he doesn’t express interest so they drop it (are you the guardian of Amé or the protector of Sky?)

Edit: this came to me in a very tired state while I was listening to a Fireside about the coven, I have no idea how this links to the 7, 9, 13 sized coven (these thoughts also come to me like screaming banshees as I try to sleep) what colors did the death of the Watching Fire or the Wide Blue Sea represent?
