Laid her down yesterday :(

(Not the best pics, but I had other things on my mind, lol)

Nothing major and only some road rash on my knee but feeling like an idiot. Came across some black pea gravel was that spilled over some fresh blacktop as I was heading to work. It was practically invisible to me and biffed it in an intersection. Bent the brake pedal, smashed a mirror. got some scuffs on the fender and fairings but not much else. Steering is a little off center but the forks and bar still seem straight, I'll re-align it this weekend. Bark buster saved my brake lever at least.

Gonna be walking with a limp for a few days but it was a good reminder that even perfect conditions can be imperfect.

Gas meter

Hey all, I've had a xr150l 2015 since February 1st-ish 2026. First real motorcycle ever. I love it

Question: I use my trip meter as a fuel gauge. I usually refill around 100–110 miles and it takes about 1.2 gallons, meaning I still have around 0.8 gallons left. At what mileage does the ON position stop pulling fuel, so I know when I’ll need to switch to RES?

Thanks

I FINALLY OWN THE XR150

Hi guys! Just wanted to share a little about my 2016 XR150L that I picked up recently. This is the first dual-sport motorcycle I have ever owned. It’s been about 3 months since I started riding it, and I’ve been enjoying every bit of it so far. Thanks for reading, guys, and have a lovely day!

Oil change & sump bolts :^)

Oil change

Hi, I live in the south where it's hot and humid, so I've use 10w-40 oil. I try to change it every 1100-1200 miles, and I'm about coming up on 6.8k miles on the odometer.

I recently replaced the OEM drain bolt on my XR150L with a magnetic sump plug and switched the aluminum washer to a copper one for improved sealing. I’m considering upgrading further to a quick‑drain style plug or valve to simplify future oil changes.

Has anyone installed a quick‑drain sump plug on the XR150L?

I know alot of people have skid plates and a large protruding quick drain might interfere

If so, which model did you use, and were there any fitment or reliability issues over time?

Right now the magnetic one works great. Finding little bits of metal here and there. Probably between 80 - 100 ug on the first bolt on and off as a thread test when I first unpacked the bolt from the mail.

I also keep the old drain bolt on me when riding. Incase something happens to the current one. I also saw a bunch of colored (probably anodized) sump bolts on ebay. Purple, red, blue , green , black, gold , etc. Super cool. Anyone swap theirs?

My XR is oem besides that bolt. Next is the pegs and then headlight upgrade.

I'd love to hear what you guys and gals have !!! Thanks. ☺️

Keep getting flat tires

I have had several flat tires and only one was due to a puncture. The valve stem tears off the tube. Something is wrong but I don’t know what. The tube is being replaced by cycle gear so I’m not the one screwing up the install but I would expect it isn’t the installer…but maybe? Could the wheel alignment cause issues if that is off?

I don’t do any hard off-roading. Mainly just scooting around town or trying to go on longer trips through the hills. But I don’t want to go too far and leave cell coverage with my tire luck…

Any suggestions what to look for?

Looking at buying an XR150L, but not sure what type of helmet (adventure vs street). Advice?

Looking at casual riding occasionally. Short, low-speed commute to work sometimes, and gravel/dirt road flat casual riding. Top speed for both would be around 30-35mph max. Probably 85%commute/15%offroad. Hot dry summer climate mostly with 90-100 degrees frequently. I'm stuck on what helmet to get. Spring /Fll is 50s-80s mostly. I wont ride in the snowy winter weather from late Oct-March.

Leaning towards one of these:
Scorpion Exo T520 or the Scorpion AT960

I like how both have the internal sun visor. I like the look of the AT960 more overall, but I dont think Id really ever use the modular feature and the visor sounds pretty flimsy and useless. The Bell MX9 seems to be more off-road oriented overall, and most of my riding is not that, unfortunately.

Any suggestions? Anyone have the T520 or AT960 and want to chime in? Like to stay under $400 if I can, especially since I wont be racking up the miles in any sense and will be low speed all the time.

edit: so hot here I've convinced myself to not get a black or grey helmet, so the styles of either of my Scorpion's im eyeing would be pure white or red/white/blue Zuse (520) or topography (960)

Just blew a H/L fuse and luckily there was a spare

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else im at just about 1350miles,
There was no incentive for it to go, i went on a ride in the morning and didn't start after that. The battery also completely shit itself and didn't have any lights on the instrument cluster no power.
