Will installing OpenXenium chip hurt if Xbox is TSOP flashed?

I have my childhood Xbox that I had a guy on Craigslist mod 20-some odd years ago to play Emulators, then it sat unused for a very long time. I've been playing around more with modding lately, but it seems the EVOX2 bios I'm currently using is actually limiting what I can do with it.

Opening it up repeatedly, I've already removed the clock cap and installed a bigger internal drive using the hot swap method and Chimp before later discovering and playing around with FATXplorer. I don't see a modchip installed, so I can only assume the guy I took it to all those years ago did a TSOP Flash.

In order to get better usability from it (more partitions so more games can be installed at once), I ordered an OpenXenium chip with XboxHD+ from AliExpress. I plan on replacing all the MOBO caps as well while I have it open since some of them seem to be bulging a bit despite working perfectly (for now).

My question is: will installing the OpenXenium chip work with the TSOP flashed? Are there any known things I should look out for before attempting this, or will the modchip override any potential problems?

Additionally, what bios do you recommend for LBA48 support so I can cut my 2tb drive into 3 or 4 partitions for games?

I've been researching and playing around with this Xbox for over a month now and the info for this scene is very spread out and disjointed, so please be kind. Seems like a lot of good resources previously available are now defunct.

Grimdoomer Just Released Another Xbox 360 Softmod Update. This Guy Never Stops! 🔥

Well, based on everything we've seen so far, and from my perspective after following Grimdoomer's posts, I think we already have a few solid facts along with some educated guesses.

For example, in one of his posts he mentioned that the Softmod will no longer be limited by the FATX file system, as it apparently will use exFAT instead, which is far superior in many ways. In fact, I already have a video explaining all of FATX's limitations.

Another interesting detail is that he demonstrated the Softmod running from a 26 TB Seagate hard drive. As we know, a stock Xbox 360 officially supports drives up to 500 GB, while modified consoles typically support up to 2 TB. In some cases, using FATXplorer, users can reach 16 TB, but there are still several limitations. Currently, this is generally restricted to certain Western Digital drives manufactured before 2020. More recent FATXplorer updates have also added support for some SSDs with specific controllers.

However, judging by what Grimdoomer has shown, many of these limitations appear to have been eliminated. He's using a 26 TB Seagate drive, which is not only far larger than what we can currently achieve but is also from a brand that isn't currently supported for these modifications. This strongly suggests that the new Softmod could bring much broader compatibility with hard drives and perhaps even SSDs.

Another important point comes from his latest post, where he mentioned that the release could happen in July. He also revealed that the Softmod will feature automatic updates, which obviously means the console will need to be connected to the internet. In addition, he said that the only remaining feature to implement is the ability to uninstall the Softmod, which is fantastic for anyone who wants to remove it later or recover the console if necessary.

Now, here's my own speculation.

I don't believe this process will directly modify the console's NAND. My guess is that something is injected or loaded during the boot process rather than permanently written to the NAND. The reason I think this is because, so far, everything suggests the project is heavily focused on the storage device and the way the Xbox 360 loads the system, rather than making permanent changes to the console's internal flash memory.

Of course, this is only my theory based on the information available so far. I could be completely wrong, but at the moment it seems like the most logical explanation.

What do you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Black screen when launching games after XboxHD+ install w/ ModXO Lite

I'm having a hell of a time getting this sorted out on my 1.6 Xbox. I have a ModXO Lite that I installed a few months ago and it is working great. Today I installed a Stellar XboxHD+ Standalone & XboxHD+ Legacy combo, booted it up and PrometheOS/Cerbios v3.1.0 are showing fine over HDMI. The XBMC4Gamers dashboard also displays like it did before.

However, whenever I boot up a game or try to launch the HD+ app, I just get a black screen, no audio, and no actual signal to my RetroTink 4k. I have tried disabling some of the AV features in the PrometheOS menu, but nothing has changed.

I didn't install any custom BIOS, as from what I've read, that's no longer necessary with the latest versions of Cerbios. I saw some talk of grounding the D0 pin, but that wasn't in the installation guide and seems to already be covered by the ModXO? Not sure what to try next, any help is appreciated.

Ghostcase pickup

Ghostcase I picked up recently for 100 bucks. Had the nice led mod cable and the clear fan shroud too. Still looking for an XCM fat case though, any pointers on where to find one would be very awesome and cool.

I just wanna know, if it really is as easy as getting a flash drive, hitting the sites and then downloading them to the Xbox.deleting whatever I dont want to make space, it has like 270 games idk how many gigs it is. But im new to the "modded" systems and im not that computer savy honestly I'd appreciate sum tips like www's that are good and official for games, help on navigating the steps and maximize space that i do have, thanks.

What are the soft mod and hard mod options that are currently the standard.

I recently traded an SNES I cleaned up and recapped for 2 original Xbox consoles. They have problems currently but I intend to fix them and mod them so I can change things like the ide drive. I want the mod to do things like the ability to backup my DVD games to the HDD and the ability to swap drives. Some games I have I thought I could play on my 360 but they aren't backwards compatible. (Blinx and it's sequel)

Help Troubleshooting xbox problems after install

I had to reflow the aladdin header as I had lots of audio and visual glitches. after a few attempts i did cause some damage to the board but I am pretty sure that damage was not from original install.

anyways in the photo the top right and bottom right pin have continuity. Does that mean I have a problem or those pins should have continuity?

edit: continuity checked between start and finish of the suspicious trace from board damage and have continuity.

motherboard version is 1.0

pin 12 (GND) and pin 2 (GND) have continuity between each other. I am assuming this is normal

Console power cycles and sometimes will not display loading screen now.

Next step will be removing D0 wire and aladdin chip altogether. If problem exists still i may need to reflow my jumper cable which solved my trace rot from clock capacitor. if problem still exists i may just have to junk the xbox

Advice on Modernizing Xecutor X3 Modded Xbox

I have 3 Xboxes that were hard modded with X3 back in the day. 1 I completely restored, another I'm working on replacing the old IDE with a SATA drive (ongoing project, mostly just optimization and working out some quirks), and another whose drive is failing (07 error when booting, and the HDD sounds like absolute crap).

I'm waiting on an EEPROM reader to come in to get the last Xbox's EEPROM so I can restore it, but I'm considering tinkering more and modernizing it, and I'm mostly looking for suggestions.

Personally, my sweet spot for storage is somewhere in the 250-500 GB range, I really don't need something crazy like 2 or more TB. The drives were WD Caviar 180 GB (one still in shockingly good condition, the other is the failed drive), and a Maxtor... 200 GB I believe which still works fine (aside from some early failure signs, in which I ensured I created a working backup image of it before anything got worse). I'm planning to switch all to SSD's.

I am also very accustomed to the EvolutionX dash.

I'm mostly looking for info on modern BIOSes, dashes, applications, etc., perhaps drive recommendations as well.

I did not mod these myself (my dad did at the time), and mostly have just been working on restoration, preservation, and optimization where I can off what he built.

All advice is very much appreciated!

USB Modding On The 360? Still A Thing?

I remember back during the days of the Xbox 360 that we were able to mod games, profiles, etc. using a simple USB drive and certain software like Modio, Horizon, etc.

I've recently got a hankering to get back into that. Perhaps, give myself some modded game saves on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, some worlds on Terraria and Minecraft. I remember downloading this tool for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 that was able to set your ACE/S levels.

You know... the whole "rehash/resign" process.

Before I spend some money on a 360, the USB drives, and potentially risk compromising a laptop with a virus downloading some modding tools... Is it still doable?

I read somewhere that Modio is no longer around but Horizon still is.

Def Jam fight for NY black screen not booting (Xbox 1.0 Xecuter2 Modchip)

Can’t get Def Jam to run at all I’m using XBMC to run Def Jam off the HDd, every time I try to boot the game it doesn’t load it’s just stuck on a black screen, I’m using 480i RGB scart cables on a US region console connected to a 480i PVM, I’ve tried using component cables no luck. I’ve tried deleting the cache files, I’ve downloaded a different rom to FTP it and still had the same issues. At this point I don’t know what’s the issue. I’m all out of ideas I’ve tried patching it Xbox2DVD still no luck every other game works fine. I’ve also changed my output to PAL on enigmah video mode still no luck :/ I think I’m just going to run it as Xiso and see if that works. Anyone ever have the same issue? I’ve deleted the save files as well it’s super frustrating.
