Can Tsugai change their size?

As seen in these two images, Gabriel can shrink, and so does the Yin-Yang pair. If so, can Tsugai change their size at will? Or is it only the giant pairs that can shrink, while the smaller ones cannot? Can Left and Right become giants too?

Why “Daemons” Gets Lost in Translation…

Hey all! I’ve really been enjoying this series, but the translation of “daemons” kept throwing me off, so I made a video about it.

In Japanese, the title uses the word tsugai, which basically means “pair.” The pair idea shows up all over the story, while “daemons” loses some of the pair heavy atmosphere that I think the author, Arakawa, was trying to build.

Asa and Yuru themselves are tsugai as twins, and there are constant themes of linked pairs. (Another more subtle example: tsugai can also mean HINGE which is seen with all the teeth and fish mouth imagery, parts that connect via hinge. )

If you’re interested in more of the Japanese meaning and symbolism behind the series, feel free to check out the video!

Do you like the translation? If not, what do you think would be better?

Would an episode-based spoiler-safe guide be useful for Yomi no Tsugai viewers?

Hi!

I’m testing a small free prototype for Yomi no Tsugai viewers.

The idea is simple: you select the episode you’ve watched up to, and the guide only shows information that should be safe up to that episode, such as:

  • plot summaries
  • character info
  • character relationships
  • worldbuilding / setting details

I made this because looking up anime information online can easily lead to unwanted spoilers, especially from wikis or search results.

Right now, the prototype only supports Yomi no Tsugai.
The landing page includes a few example screens to explain the broader concept.

If this seems useful, I’d like to improve it and eventually expand the idea to other anime as well. For now, I’m mainly trying to see whether viewers of the series would find this kind of episode-based spoiler-safe guide helpful.

Prototype link: https://yris-anime.web.app/en

This is a non-commercial prototype made for feedback. Any series images or related content belong to their respective rights holders.

I’d really appreciate any feedback:

  • Would you use something like this while watching the series?
  • Is the episode-based spoiler-safe format easy to understand?
  • What information would you want to check most often?
  • Is anything confusing or unnecessary?

Thanks!

Anyone having a hard time finding a way to read the latest chapters lately? Because I have!

I've been thinking of making a Manga Up account to get to the latest chapters quicker &...it refuses to let me make an account... It just keeps saying "your email account has no gaming data" every time I try. What does that even mean? Has anyone else been getting annoyed by how official manga websites have been lately? I either need to use a credit card, wait till the next day to even read a chapter again, to letting me read only if I score points off of bad flash games. What happened to just reading the damn manga?

A rather curious idea that occurred to me for the future of the manga (yuru's mental breakdown?)

This is an idea that occurred to me while reflecting on the work after reading chapters 52 and 53 of the manga, along with reviewing the beginning of the story with the release of the anime. Well, you know that during the first half of the story we see how Yuru has to adapt to the fact that everything he believed was false. This supposedly reaches a key point with Danji's return, revealing himself as a Tsugai, but even so, I feel that it's not the end of it. Recently, Dr. Sakurazawa made a comment about using Yuru's "seal," which Gabby confronted her about it. in chapter 53, Yuru admits that he still doesn't trust the Kagemori clan, and that's when I remembered that Yuru only interacts with them for his own benefit and his search for his parents. I started to realize that Yuru still doesn't know who to trust and that he barely trusts Asa. Watching the anime, I remembered that Yuru used to be kind sweet with the fake Asa, while with our real Asa, he still struggles to show affection (like what happens when she captures Ivan). Now, here comes the mental rambling that comes from the hyperfocus I had on this work by Arakawa.

Yuru's mental breakdown:my point is that I honestly feel Yuru's stress has been somewhat sidelined since he fell ill danji appeared as a tsugai, but we know he's still suspicious of everyone. From a more realistic perspective, Yuru genuinely doesn't know who to trust. He can't trust Higashi Village, his home, and he's unsure whether to fully trust Dera and Hana because of their connections to the higashi village. He mentioned not trusting the Kagemori clan, and it's obvious that Akio's betrayal only made him more distrustful of the clan. To top it all off, Yuru can't even trust his instincts. He claimed he could tell if someone wanted him dead just by looking at their face, but he recently learned that he lived surrounded by those who wanted him dead, His best friend and his "sister" turned out to be Tsugai who knew he should die and never told him anything. Furthermore, learning that his parents abandoned him alone must have reopen a wound in his heart that he thought was healed.

Anyone would stop trusting someone after that, and I feel like Yuru only trusts Asa because she's his sister and because he desperately needs someone to trust... but what would happen if Yuru believed she was going to betray him too? It's silly, and it's similar to an idea Arakawa already used in FMA, but imagine what would happen to Yuru, a powerful hunter, basically a human weapon, if he were consumed by paranoia and anxiety, whether due to a misunderstanding or deceptions from the Nishino village thought Asa betrayed him too? What would he do in that case? How would they reason with him? I feel like it would be interesting to see that. What do you think?

Do you think the anime is gonna make any changes?

So far the anime has been pretty 1:1 but do you think the anime is gonna make any changes and obviously i mean changes that would improve the story in someway or something the author wanted to change for some reason, also is there anything you would like to be changed?

[Chapter 15, 28, 51] Possible contradiction in Asa’s knowledge regarding the escape?

In Chapter 28, it’s revealed that Asa did not know that it was Roei (Dera’s dad) who told their mother the route out of the Higashi Village barrier. However, in Chapter 51, Asa contradicted herself by recounting how their mother extracted the route out of Roei. Short of a rare plot hole from Arakawa, I don’t know how else to explain this logically – I doubt Asa contacted Roei or Ken, let alone their missing parents, in the time frame between the two chapters for this detail. Any idea how to justify this without chalking it up to a plot hole?

BTW, this is not my own discovery, but something I came across in a Japanese article.

Sorry for the repetitive topic but concerning gabby...

I sill don't understand how much hate gabby gets when similar characters like geto (who had 100% deliberate pleasure to do the same thing gabby did presumably for work Or revenge) get glazed with no second thought. Gabby's nonchalance is the equivalent of an 'aura moment' a villain would usually be memorable for. Not evangelizing her, even embracing a full villain role wouldn't make liking her as unreasonable as people make it out to be. Again, ppl do like geto, frieza, (csm control devil) => >!makima!<and others after all...

Does [SPOILER] have their own [SPOILER?] counter?

Basically, my question is, does >!Nishinomura have their own Break and Seal counter?!<

Because we know that up until 400 years ago they were "dedicated to producing chosen twins", so they must have expected to have Break and Seal and some point, but despite that, Sayuu was in posession of Higashimura at that point, because the Higashimura lord had the jade necklace.

So, do you think they have their own counter, something equivalent to Sayuu? If they do, my hypothesis is that it would be something like "up and down", based on the expression 上下左右. Which, thinking about it, could apply to Heaven and Earth, Misasagi's tsugai. And speaking of Misasagi, his coulouring looks too much like Right and Left. I would wonder if he himself was the counter if Jin's bullet hadn't graced him (because we know Right and Left are inmune to bullets).

Or maybe the Nishinomura twins wouldn't get Break and Seal but something else altogether and they have the counter to that? The prophecy Asa recites does say "in an eastern village", it says nothing of Nishinomura twins.

Thoughts?

Theory on the identity of the twins, as well as Seal and Break.

If we examine related keywords in the story, such as "twins," "Yomi," "Break," and "Seal," we can see a close connection between these keywords and the Japanese mythological figures Izanagi and Izanami.

Izanagi and Izanami are creation gods in Japanese Shinto mythology. They are twin siblings and also husband and wife.

The story goes like this: *"*After giving birth to the fire god Kagutsuchi, tragically died from severe burns. Grief-stricken, Izanagi decided to travel to the land of the dead (Yomi) to find his wife and bring her back to the world of the living.

When he found Izanami, she explained that she had already consumed the food of the underworld and could not return to the world of the living. However, she was willing to negotiate with the god of the underworld for a chance to return, on the condition that Izanagi must not look at her while he waited.

Initially, Izanagi agreed to wait. But as the wait became increasingly impatient, he longed to steal a glance at her. Breaking their promise, Izanagi stole a glance at his wife, only to find her a rotting corpse.

Izanami, deeply ashamed that her husband had seen her decaying body, enraged, sent the army of Yomi to hunt down Izanagi. Izanagi fled back to the human world and moved a giant rock to "seal" the entrance to Yomotsu no Hirasaka (the boundary between the human world and the underworld).

In that instant, Izanami vowed to curse the human world, taking 1000 lives every day. Izanagi responded that he would ensure 1500 lives were born every day."

Izanami wanted to "break" the "seal" Izanagi had placed on her and unleash her curse upon the human world.

Izanami symbolizes "death," while Izanagi symbolizes "life."

So far, we have witnessed:

- The power of "Break" is used to sever the heads of the enemies. Symbolizing "death."

- The power of "Seal" is used to seal a person's lifespan, granting them immortality. It symbolizes "life."

What about the "Break" and "Seal" Daemons? As we've seen, they're different than the other Daemons that they don't serve a single master. But each half serves one master. I don't know if the word "serve" is correct, because when Asa got the power of Break, what the Daemon said was "accept me". Which means that "Break" and Asa are becoming one.

Seal and Break Daemons might be the manifestation of Izanagi and Izanami's will respectively.

As the story progresses, we can anticipate that:

Asa will gradually be consumed by Izanami's evil and become an antagonist.

Yuru, in order to save her, will use the power of "Seal" to seal everything away, completely ending this vicious cycle.

Conclusion: I believe that Yuru and Asa (and all the previous "destined twins") are reincarnations of Izanagi and Izanami. The repeated reenactment of these events is to resolve it once and for all.

Just started the show I had a question for ep 1

I don’t get why they let everyone die before summoning left and right. Like they could’ve easily done it the second people attacked or even earlier than when it was done because he was in town while people were dying.
