He'll get his Oscar.
I got to watch Paper Tiger at the Mill Valley Film Festival tonight and saw a conversation with James Gray and Rian Johnson afterwards. Was hoping to get Rian to sign my TLJ copy but the fates didn't align. My great state's handsome governor was sitting two rows behind me so I bet James and Rian went to meet and greet him after 😜
I know nothing about film and just watch AD movies and Jane Austen adaptions 🫣 but I really was blown away by Adam's performance and think this is what will get him his first lil guy statue.
A few non-plot things about Adam!
- He plays the pianooooooooo 🎹
- He's wearing sexy 80s suits in every scene
- We get some gun handling from our favorite Lance Corporal
- His scenes with the kids are so special and his first moment with ScarJo felt like a Marriage Story moment low-key
- There's a couple times where either something about the angle or his hair being disheveled just makes him look like a baby all of a sudden and I was in heaven. No idea if it was intentional to add a vulnerability to the moment or just me spending too much time looking at pics of him 😬
- I noticed one photoshopped picture of young Adam in the family photos in the Pearl home 😍
I recorded part of the after movie talk when they started talking about the actors in the hopes of some Adam talk but James just pontificated and didn't talk much about him. I did notice they both called him Driver but called the others Miles and Scarlet. Adorable 🥰 Really unbelievable stories from James though (it's shocking how true to James's life this film is) and Rian did a great job directing James's meandering. I'll post the link when it's done uploading.
