“The Missing Hour” — an imagined 1991 two-hour crossover special.

Four mysteries. One impossible signal.

The Enterprise discovers four seemingly unrelated Starfleet case files containing the same unexplained sixty-minute gap. Picard orders an investigation. Between scenes, a Robert Stack–hosted archival program presents witness interviews, ominous reconstructions, and diagrams rendered in glorious early-’90s computer graphics.

1. The Empty Pattern A scientist beams aboard the Enterprise. The transporter confirms successful arrival, but the platform is empty. That night, Beverly hears someone knocking from inside the transporter’s diagnostic speaker. The knocks spell out a medical identification number—her own.
2. The Officer Who Never Was Several crew members remember serving with Lieutenant Elias Venn. Riker remembers promoting him. Guinan remembers his favorite drink. Yet Starfleet has no record of his existence. Data finds Venn in a security recording, standing behind Picard during a classified briefing. In each successive playback, he stands closer to the camera.
3. The Silent Colony A Federation settlement transmits its routine morning report despite having been abandoned seventeen years earlier. The away team finds warm breakfasts, running machinery, and no inhabitants. Through one upstairs window, Troi sees a child drawing the Enterprise—before the ship entered orbit.
4. The Shuttle From Tomorrow Worf retrieves a battered Enterprise shuttle containing an elderly Wesley Crusher. Its flight recorder documents the Enterprise’s destruction the following evening. Wesley delivers one warning: “When you hear the missing people, don’t answer.”

The connection: An ancient subspace relay has trapped people and places from several decades inside a shared, repeating hour. Their attempts to escape are bleeding into the Enterprise’s present. Answering their signal would release them—but pull the entire ship into their place.

Picard refuses to accept that exchange. Geordi and Data use the shuttle’s future telemetry to give the relay a new destination: an uninhabited planetary surface. The prisoners emerge, including the scientist and Lieutenant Venn. Wesley’s shuttle disappears as its future is averted.

Then comes the final UPDATE card.

Everyone has been accounted for except the child. Reviewing the colony footage, Data realizes she wasn’t drawing the Enterprise.

She was drawing whatever was following it.
