I built an Android vault app that silently photographs anyone who tries to snoop through your phone. here's everything it does

Hey everyone, I've been working on a private vault app for Android called VaultCam and just published it on the Play Store. Wanted to share it here since this community seems to appreciate this kind of thing.

The core idea: your private photos, videos, notes, and passwords ,encrypted on your device, with no server, no cloud, no subscription. But the features go way beyond just "hiding photos."

  1. Break-in selfie

Every wrong PIN attempt silently activates the front camera . The intruder's photo is saved with a timestamp and the PIN they tried. After 5 wrong attempts, the app shows a fake "Application data corrupted please reinstall" error screen so they give up thinking the app is broken.

The app appears on your home screen as a normal calculator. It actually works as a calculator. To open the vault, you type your PIN then press "=". ( even if somebody is watching your screen it will show random numbers not your real PIN on screen ). You can also disguise it as a clock app or a notes app instead.

  1. Dual vault (decoy system)

You set two PINs. One opens your real vault. The other opens a decoy vault with innocent content. If someone ever forces you to unlock it, you give them the decoy PIN. They see the fake vault and never know the real one exists.

  1. Ghost mode

Shake your phone while the vault is open → instantly closes and shows the calculator, like it was never there. Zero back-stack, so pressing back doesn't return to the vault.

  1. Snatch detection

If someone grabs the phone out of your hand while it's open, the accelerometer detects the sudden movement and locks the vault immediately.

  1. Secure in-app camera

Take photos directly inside the vault. They never appear in your gallery encrypted immediately after capture and stored straight in the vault.

  1. Secure notes

Write encrypted text notes directly inside the vault. Diary entries, private thoughts, anything. Stored with the same AES-256-GCM encryption as your photos nobody can read them without your PIN.

  1. Password manager

Store passwords, PINs, WiFi keys, and any sensitive credentials inside the vault. It's not a separate app — it lives inside the vault so it's protected by the same disguise, dual vault, and break-in selfie system automatically.

  1. Guardian PIN

A third PIN that doesn't wipe anything but locks the vault for 1–24 hours. Useful if you're pressured but don't want to give the real PIN and don't want to trigger a wipe either.

  1. TimeLock

Configure the vault to only open during specific hours. Outside those hours, even the correct PIN is rejected.

  1. Encrypted backup

Export the entire vault as a .vcbak file re-encrypted with a separate password to local storage or cloud. Everything stays encrypted even in the backup.

The encryption:

AES-256-GCM per file. Each file gets its own unique random key. Your PIN is never stored — it goes through PBKDF2 (100,000 rounds) to derive a master key that lives only in RAM and gets wiped the moment the vault locks. The metadata database (SQLCipher) is also encrypted. Nothing unencrypted ever touches the disk.

No backend. No server. No subscription. 100% free.

Everything runs locally. to be honest the app makes money through AdMob ads (banner at the bottom, occasional interstitial), well not making any money but should make money thiss way. All features are unlocked for everyone.

Built a tool to fix the #1 problem killing dropshippers in Algeria — sky-high COD refusal rates

Hey everyone,
I’ve been building DzDropship, a small platform for resellers and dropshippers operating in Algeria, and wanted to share it here for feedback.
The problem:
Cash-on-delivery is basically the only payment method that works for e-commerce in Algeria, but it comes with a brutal downside — customers routinely refuse the package when the delivery agent shows up. Return rates are a lot higher than most sellers can absorb, and every refused order still costs the seller the outbound shipping fee. That’s the single biggest thing eating dropshipper margins here.
What I built:
DzDropship integrates with SofizPay (a local payment gateway that works with CIB and Edahabia cards, tied into the SATIM network and Algeria Post) to offer what I’m calling Split Cash on Delivery:
• The customer pays just the shipping fee upfront, electronically, as a small deposit when they place the order.
• The rest of the product price is still paid in cash on delivery, like normal.
• If they refuse the package, the seller has already recovered the shipping cost instead of eating the loss.
On top of that, there’s a dashboard to:
• Manage orders whether you’re importing from AliExpress or sourcing from local wholesalers
• Let customers pick between full COD, full electronic payment, or the hybrid split option
• Auto-reconcile which deposits came in electronically vs. what still needs to be collected in cash
No business registration required to start — you sign up for a SofizPay merchant account, which lets you receive funds and transfer them to your bank or CCP account.
Still early days, but wanted to see what people think, especially anyone who’s dealt with the COD-refusal problem firsthand (in Algeria or elsewhere). Happy to answer questions about how the payment split works.
It’s also open source (Next.js/TypeScript) if anyone wants to poke around the code or contribute
Links in the comments.

Idoom 4G modem with 1TB or Tenda 4G03 Pro ?

Hello everyone, I was woundering what decision is better, to get an Idoom 4G modem that comes with 1TB or Tenda 4G03 pro modem router that has bandwidth control feature and two exernal antennas ? The tenda also shows real time download and upload speed of every connected device and allows the administrator to limit the speed for each device individually.

I heard the Idoom 4G doesn't come with external 4G antennas, so you would have to buy them if they have a connector for them on the modem.

Best payment option for invoices in Algeria?

Salam everyone,

I’m building Sahel, a simple invoicing tool for Algerian freelancers and small businesses:
https://sahel.yktis.com

Someone suggested adding a way for clients to pay directly from the invoice, like an invoice + payment link.

I’m trying to understand what makes the most sense in Algeria:

  • CCP / RIP info directly on the invoice
  • BaridiMob transfer, but I’m not sure if there’s any real API
  • Chargily Pay for CIB / Edahabia
  • Direct SATIM / CIB integration
  • Manual proof upload + mark invoice as paid

For people who freelance or run a business here:
what would you actually use?

Is payment info on the PDF enough, or would a real payment link be important?

Any insight appreciated

SEO Tips

I'm building a service platform targeting users in Algeria, and I'd love feedback from people who have experience with the Algerian market.

A few questions:

- What are your best SEO tips specifically for ranking in Algeria (Google.dz/local search)?

- Are there any features you'd expect from a modern service platform in Algeria besides its core functionality?

- What's the best way to collect credible, trustworthy reviews for a service in Algeria? Since Google Reviews aren't always practical for every type of service, what has worked well for you?

I'm looking for practical advice and real-world experience.

I built an app for public transportation in Algeria

Hi everyone!

Click on image for better experience

I built an app called شريكي to make public transportation in Algeria easier to use.

Say you visited oran or other wilaya for first time and you don't know how to reach destination with public transportation

Instead of paying yassir or taxi for 500 , you pay 20 da for a bus ticket

The app helps users:

Find bus routes between cities and within cities

Search for the nearest bus stops

Get suggested routes from one location to another

If you wanna try the app , it's called شريكي on Google play store , it's not available on IOS yet

If you have any 3rf in the public transportation sector I wish someone could help so i can add all the wilayas to the app
