Guidance Required Please

I am from Pakistan and have studied in the national curriculum.

I first time heard about common app and SAT test a month ago , and I started preparing my essays , and application and also preparing for SAT

My goal is liberal arts colleges like Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin , Wesleyan. I know they are reaches for every applicant on Earth.

But , my question is that they all list they have a contextual way of evaluating the applications and have admission officers trained for students coming from different contexts and curriculum.

They explicitly also list that not submitting the SAT will not hurt your application.

But in all majority posts on Reddit everyone say it isn't even possible to get admitted without SAT.

My question is from who already have experience or gone through the applications to these colleges.

"If someone is coming from south Asia ( developing countries like India , Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan), and he with reference to his curriculum has excelled and applying from a college on his own effort which has no history of sending kids to USA and put effort in his essays and application, is there still no chance at these top Liberal arts colleges."

I just wanna know if there is zero chance there without sat and to Cambridge or IB scores to confirm whether the effort I put in my applications - essays, and all other stuff, guiding teachers and counselors for recommendations,

Is it really worth putting my effort and time or is it completely out of reach.

Date went flaccid because I thought he went to state school

Every summer my family flies back to the motherland, partly to visit relatives and partly so my siblings and I don't forget where we're from. We stay the whole summer and fly back a week before school starts.

I'm single, so I keep my dating apps on while I'm there just to see what I'm missing out on from the West. The country's a hotspot for passport bros, but my city isn't. We barely get tourists.

Which is why I was surprised to match with an American last week. Turns out he teaches English at an international school nearby.

We got to talking and agreed to hook up. My last two semesters put me through the wringer, it had been over a year since I had sex, and I was desperate.

We had dinner first. He mentioned doing Quiz Bowl in undergrad. I said I was too dumb for Quiz Bowl. He said I was smarter than I thought and pulled up a random flag on his phone to prove it. I did not know the flag. He said, "Is that what they teach you at [my university]?"

Cut to the hotel room. We were making out, and I have to say: the man could kiss. We pulled apart and I told him so, and then, feeling clever, I added: "Is that what they teach you at [state school]?"

I felt it go flaccid in my hand.

I apologized on instinct because I panicked. He sat up looking genuinely mortified and said he didn't go to [state school]. He went to [private liberal arts college with almost the identical name].

I thought he was saying the same thing twice. He had to explain that they're two different schools in the same city, which is why the names are nearly identical, except one is a state school and his is a small private liberal arts college.

I apologized again and admitted I'd never heard of his. In my defense, these are East Coast schools. I grew up in the Midwest, and even though I went to college on the East Coast, I only knew the state school because a friend went there before transferring to mine.

I tried to bring his erection back, but I could not. He kept apologizing, and he said the comment caught him off guard.

Anyway. Not gonna lie, I’m really disappointed. I was really looking forward to getting my cheeks clapped.

What do you wish you knew before starting college?

For current students and recent graduates, what is something you wish you had known before your freshman year?

It could be about choosing classes, professors, managing your workload, making friends, dorm life, clubs, budgeting, internships, or balancing academics with having a social life. I’d also appreciate any advice on common freshman mistakes and underrated opportunities students should take advantage of early.

How busy are students?

My main question is how busy are students that outside social life is hard to maintain? Is it hard to maintain, or is it doable? I will leave the story under this. But for the people who don’t want to read the whole story… how busy are students that outside life is too hard to handle?

The story: I work in Amherst, I do not work for Amherst college but I’m on the campus every day. I work with students all the time. And while working I met someone, fell hard for this person. And I am just looking for some kind of closure because I never got closure and always wondering what happened. And I’m wondering if some people can tell me if outside life is hard to manage due to school work and activities. So I can stop wondering. So I have a better understanding why the relationship ended. I know why it ended but it’s blurry.

I am well off financially, and that attracted this person somewhat. But we genuinely connected. And it really didn’t bother me that this person had double “standards.” The person is such a good person I was able to overlook it. But the one thing was this person always claimed to be too busy, can’t see me due to events. And I did find out this person was very active in events and clubs. But I found out this person got into stealing, drugs, etc… I was so scared I stopped and started saying I was falling on hard times and such. I did not want my hard work to go into drugs and someone’s habit. I loved this person, I still do. I would do anything for this person even if it’s 5 years from now. But it started becoming dates/see eachother was quick pass by seeing eachother almost not time for me… very secretively.

I am young, and if I were to meet someone or somehow date the same person… are you really so busy you can’t hold a relationship? I went through college it was hard, but I still found time in college to do things. I will never say who, I will never say gender. I will not “out” this person, this person is a good person. I think was just in a bad situation. None of us had it easy going through school with Covid and technology and social media harassment… and the two of us had extra rough life experiences it seemed.

How was your Amherst College Experience?

I'm a student ranking colleges for the Questbridge National College Match looking to gather first hand experiences on the colleges i'm considering!

2 big motivators for my consideration of Amherst: It's location in MA and it's open curriculum.

Type of student: I'm not interested in Greek life, would love a nice outdoors, quirky, and authentic social scene with friends I can hangout with regularly. I'm a hard worker but value relaxation on certain days. I want liberty/freedom regarding my academics despite knowing I'm going to be premed because I have many passions. I want to have as many friends/connections as possible and gain a good community.

Questions:

  1. How beneficial is the college consortium? Does it expand the amount of opportunities offered?
  2. How does the open curriculum positively or negatively impact the educational experience?
  3. How accessible are jobs, internships, opportunities, etc.
  4. How is the social scene? Is the student athlete divide extremely detrimental?
  5. What is the general political sentiment that most students/faculty hold? Do POC and Queer individuals feel welcomed and supported?
  6. How are the dorms and food? Ive heard many mixed opinions.
  7. Are there things to do around town?
  8. How is the premed track?
