What would it take to turn 36 pages of text into an interactive map? And how could I share it for free?

Hi. I'm a total GIS novice, so please answer as if speaking to a small child, or a golden retriever.

I have a 36 page document about the experience of one regiment in the Korean war. Many of the entries include coordinates, albeit in the outdated US military "Tokyo" coordinate system. Ideally I would like to make a map that has a pin at each of those coordinates, and links back to the relevant section of the text when the pin is clicked.

I'm guessing that the best approach is to scan the document and use OCR to extract the text, and then write some sort of script to extract the coordinates and convert them to a latitude-longitude system. If I created a spreadsheet with that info could I make my desired map with QGIS?

I've never written a script like that or really used QGIS, so any details about what software I'd need would be appreciated. I have a macbook. At only 36 pages perhaps it would be easier to just do this all "manually", copying and pasting each section I need.

How could I go about sharing the map? Would I have to host my own website?

Ideally I'd like to do this without spending any money. Thanks!

What Are the Qualities of a "good" GIS Analyst?

I just landed a GIS Analyst Role. I have only ever used the software academically for the cert, but I want to hit the ground running.

What is your day like? What makes a "good' GIS analyst?

I'll be heavily focused on Enterprise ArcGIS, Asset Management, administrative duties, etc.

She left me after being together for almost 2 years. Question for the girls: stubble or goatee stache for me?
