Major for undergrad?

Hi everyone. I'm currently considering going into Au.D. but was not sure if anyone else that's in the program were also a non-CSD major.

I am taking a lot of Science courses (Microbio, Chemistry, A&P 1 & 2) and they're not required for Au.D. programs but I also dont have many courses that prepares me for it.

If anyone's willing to share their major that would be helpful! Thank you!

Worried about audiology being more "sales" than medical

Hello everyone. Ive heard from a few people that most audiologists are taking commissions on hearing aids and it feels more like a sales job than medical.

I'm sort of worried about getting into the field because of it. Does anyone has any experience with this so far?

SLP-A debating Audiology

I'm currently a part time SLP-A at a private practice. I just got my BS in Speech and Hearing Sciences in December and SLP-A license in July. I'd really like to go back to school, and I've been deciding between my MS to be an SLP, or AuD in Audiology. I realllly want audiology, but being full time in school intimidates me. I was full time at Starbucks and ASU online for my BS. It was a lot, but I was on a grind.

Truthfully, I'm ready for that workload. How can I actually balance my in-person clinical hours for audiology while being a SLP-A. I'm wondering what school is like for you all. Or, if I need to quit lol and pick an evening job.

Thoughts? Encouragement...please 💀

DPT vs. Au.D.

Hi everyone I have made this post before in r/audiology but wanted to see if current Au.D. students may have a different view on this.

I'm a sophomore in Health and Nutrition Science that plans on graduating by spring of my Junior year.

I am currently deciding between DPT and Au.D., I wanted to see if anyone had any pros and cons of working in the Audiology.

I absolutely love working with children so I would love to do Pediatric or possibly NICU for my specialty.

Recently I've shadowed a Pediatric DPT clinic and it has been a little overstimulating for me but was fun. Ive also shadowed an outpatient clinic, which to me felt less medical and more like a private gym (which is not my preferred place to work) because I like the more clinical vibe if that makes sense.

Also I feel a lot of Au.D.s are looked down upon physicians when mentioned as a Dr. Although both went to 4 years of post undergrad education just in different areas.

I've had friends tell me that DPT sounds like a better option because there is more job openings, and also more niches you can go into, as well as slightly higher salaries (I've looked into my area and audiologists actually make slightly more annually than physical therapists), and a year less of schooling but from my current shadowing experiences I may be leaning more towards Au.D. so I wanted to see if there's anyone that's willing to share some pros of the role!

The pros of DPT for me is that it's only a 3 year program, which means I can step out in the workforce and work earlier, BUT the tuition for Au.D. is cheaper although it's a 4 year program. And I tend to see audiologists being more respected and treated as someone that earned a doctorate, which is not the main reason I am going into the field but I'd love to be given the credit for gaining a doctoral degree because of the debt and time spent into it.

externiship worries/ advice

Hello redditors,

I'm a current AUD student looking for an externship. I've had 12 different interviews, 3 rejections and no offers yet. I'm desperately looking all over PA.

Frankly, I'm worried I won't find an externship, alot of my cohort has already recieved offers and I'm feeling anxious.

Should I continue applying to other sites all over the US, or should I hope that one of my interviews will give me an offer. What am I doing wrong?

Also if anyone knows of any sites still looking for an extern/ still accepting applications, please let me know.
