Guidance

Hi there, I’m reaching out for some assistance. I’ve been struggling to pass the ASE test, and I’m determined to succeed this time. However, I’ve been a poor test taker in the past, and I’m afraid that’s the reason for my repeated failures. This time, I’ve taken the test on a different subject, but I still failed. I’ve been studying diligently using study guides and using official ASE practice test vouchers, so I felt quite confident before the test. But when I took it, I encountered questions that I had never encountered before. I’m at a loss and would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer. What am I doing wrong? What else should I study to improve my chances of passing the test? My job is literally pay walling me to get a raise I have to get ases to get it.

16 year old born female wanting to get experience/ a job in automotive or mechanic field

I am 16 as the title says. I am also a female. My dad was a mechanic and I want to take after him. I lost him when I was 10-11 in a car accident so hes not in the picture to teach me stuff about cars. Ironic isn't it? I might not be able to look or get a job right away so It might be a little while for anything like a job. Id rather something like an apprenticeship to just be in the garage and learn. I want experience first.

Recommendations on first step if DIY is chosen on issue with a 1995 Toyota T100, manual, 4x4

Hello!👋

We have 1995 Toyota T100, manual, 4x4 with 170,000 miles. I inherited the pickup in this condition recently. I do not know its maintenance history or any history…

PLEASE HELP point me in possible DIY DIrection in order to diagnose current issue!! It may be something very simple and obvious to others!! I’m a beginner and maybe a 3/10 mechanically, but interested in learning more as problems arise.!!

The pickup vibrates very badly at about 20 mph. This is the ultimate simple description.

Deeper dive: if going 40mph, it vibrates as if something is extremely wrong with tires or steering system. Initially, thought it was a tire issue. After 2 different sets of completely different rims in size and rubber, it is not a tire issue… thought well, maybe a tie rod, boot, steering system issue of done sort.

KEY CLUE: I assume this description will help the person that is much more mechanically inclined.
-If going the same 40 mph and severe vibration is present
- Note: it’s always present and never intermittent
- anything basically over 15-20mph it starts rather violently and worse with increased speed
- BUT if press clutch or put in neutral it STOPS 🛑 and drives smooth either way NO VIBRATION
- It ONLY occurs when in gear and any gear ⚙️

So, with that clue…
Is it possible to have cracked inner cv axle cracked boot?
Or U-Joints?
Or are we talking and taking it to the Transmission? I put shaft bearing??

I don’t know what to do next in order to figure this out!

PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT “TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP and drop it off, they’ll diagnose and recommend”

I’d rather not pay $160/hr and I’d like to LEARN!!

BONUS QUESTION SINCE I HABE YOU HERE!!!
- Can I replace 60/40 bench seat with bucket seats rather easily? If bench is removed, will same T100 or possibly 4Runner BUCKET seats fit properly with no modifications to existing brackets?? Or is it a remove bench and start over with buying a different bracket or universal brackets for bucket seat 💺??

Thank you 🙏 in advance for positive, helpful advice and ANY of your help and time!!

Evaporator Core Fun

Has anyone else noticed more evaporator core failures on vehicles with R1234yf? Or is it just shitty parts at the factory.

Latest one is a 2021 Charger
