Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.
Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212
And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app
P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.
Buongiorno - we have an early morning train on Friday, and I just tried to book a taxi ride from Zona Fiera using itTaxi. The app gave me the following error (translated from the original Italian): “MAXIMUM NUMBER OF BOOKINGS REACHED IN THE ABOVE TIME SLOT, CONTACT IL CENTRALINO ALLO 0805343333“. I got the same error when trying various times today and tomorrow . Is this a common issue with itTaxi, or is it a bug?
Edit: I was able to reach the taxi booking service per the number above and they let me know that I can only book one day in advance, so I will call tomorrow for my Friday trip. In the meantime, I would appreciate any suggestions re: why itTaxi might not be working for me . Grazie!
Hi all - looking for some assistance in transcribing what is written on my grandmother’s Italian passport from 1964 under “domicile”. I can see Bari, which is where she lived, but have been unable to make out the next word starting with a C. Any help is appreciated!
Ciao a tutte e tutti,
Grazie mille 🙏
Hello everyone, I'm Paul from the French Scout group of Lille III
This summer, we are a group of 10 people, including 8 young people and 2 leaders, traveling to North Macedonia to work on sustainable development goals, and we are passing through Bari and Milano. However, we are having a lot of trouble finding accommodation there, and if we don't have somewhere to stay before June 8th, the entire trip will have to be canceled. We have already contacted the CNGEI, but they haven't been able to find much.
We would need to sleep in Bari from July 16th to 17th and then from August 1st to 2nd, if possible near the port.
And for Milano (or less than half an hour from the center) it would be from August 4th to 6th.
We would like accommodation with rooms, a kitchen, etc., but we would be happy with a plot of land to pitch our tents.
Thanks for all the help you can provide to us,
All the scouts of Lille III
Hello everyone, I'm visiting Bari and I would like to know which are the best bars and pubs in the city, if I want to avoid the tourist traps and prefer to drink with locals. Thank you for your help
BUONASERA A TUTTI IO SONO MARTINO E FARÒ PARTE OGGI DI QUESTO SERVER PER COMUNICARE DOVE STO E Quando verrò a Bari.
Hi everyone,
I’m going to a concert at Stadio San Nicola in Bari and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get there and back afterward.
I won’t have a car, so I’d really appreciate advice about:
- public transport to the stadium
- whether trains/buses still run after concerts
- how hard it is to get a taxi/Uber after the show
- whether it’s better to stay near the stadium or in Bari city center
If anyone has been to a concert there before, I’d really appreciate any tips or experiences.
Thanks :)
Ciao a tutti
I hope it's ok to post this here, if not please feel free to remove.
On 14th May I will arrive in your beautiful city on a solo trip for about 7 days. Hopefully it doesn't rain too much. I am planning a few day trips to the likes of Monopoli, Polignano a mare, trani, barletta, Alberobello, matera before heading to Lecce for a few days for my birthday.
Usually when I go on my solo city breaks I use apps to meet people such as meetup etc as well as Reddit and getting chatting to strangers in bars etc.
I am open to any local recommendations for places to go, eat, drink, explore and generally experience the local vibe and not just the tourist places. If anyone who is also on a trip here or a local who lives here would like to meet up and get a drink, food, explore the city etc then please drop me a message. I am 33M from the UK.
I appreciate that some people would not be comfortable meeting a random person online, which is why I would also like to ask for recommendations regarding which places, areas, bars and pubs are good for meeting people solo? (I don't do nightclubs personally)
I am looking forward to exploring and eating my way around your fantastic city and although i have done some research, I am looking for recommendations for the best places to get braciola, panzerotti, bombette, orichette with ragu / braciola and Sgagliozze. Open to any other food recommendations, just not seafood.
I am also looking for any pubs or bars that will show English premier league football games on tv.
I've done a bit of research but I'm still open to all kinds of recommendations especially from locals, things to do, places to see, activities, beaches, bars etc.
Grazie
Are you a visitor, looking for the best spots in Bari? Ask here. This is our weekly pinned "Visiting Bari" thread.
Looking for restaurants, cultural spots, snacks, beaches, public transit?
Well, come on down and ask all the questions you like. I'll update this post to reflect the best sub-recommended places to visit.
Places in Bari
Nearby Towns:
Where to eat:
What to eat (typical dishes):
The great thing about many of the typical local dishes is that many of them are vegan, many of them are naturally gluten-free, many of them are lactose-free, many of them are vegetarian, so everyone can try at least some of them.
How to get around:
Trains
You don't need a car to get around Bari. Here are some of the places to check timetables, costs, routes:
On paper, there are four (4) train stations in Bari. They are all located in generally the same area.
You can use the websites to buy the tickets, or you can use apps like Omio, Moovit and the like.
Buses
There is a local bus service to get around Bari as well, the Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti Autobus Bari ([AMTAB](https://www.amtab.it/it/)). These buses go all around the city with varying degrees of punctuality. The site is not very user friendly. You can buy tickets and see routes on the MUVT app and MooneyGo app (formerly MyCicero). There is also a booth outside of Bari Centrale train station where you can buy tickets and ask for information (generally just in Italian).
There are also inter-city bus services:
Taxis
Bari isn't a big enough city to have taxis roaming around that you can hail in the fly, so you need to go to a taxi stand or call one. There are several taxi stands around town:
You can call Co.ta.ba. That's Bari's taxi hotline. +39.080.554.33.33
You can even reach them on WhatsApp at the same number to secure your taxi.
There's no guarantee that you will find a taxi at any of the taxi stands at any time. To guarantee yourself transport, call and reserve one.
Other modes
There are also bike and scooter rentals all over town now.
Vaimoo is the city's bike share service. You can rent them from designated "parking spots" in the city and drop them off in any other designated area. You need to download their app.
There is also Bit, Lime, Vento and Tier for scooter rentals. You can pick them up and drop them off anywhere. You need to download an app to use them.
Hi all, I’m wondering does anyone have any recommendations for a salon which can do both a blowdry and makeup application? The wedding is in polignano a mare. Anything I search seem to be services for brides (incl. getting ready in venue etc), but I’m just a guest (who will be heavily pregnant so looking to perk myself up!). Any advice greatly appreciated. I’ll have a car so can travel within reason. Thanks!
