Help me eat somewhere besides McMenamins when I visit my parents PLEASE

Hi, long time reader first time poster.

I grew up in Beaverton but have been living in the east coast for the past 8 years. I visit my parents a couple times a year and we always end up as the same spots. My parents suggest CPR or rock creek tavern but I’m determined to try something new this next visit.

I love a good over priced Cajun tot (don’t we all) but want to expand!! Here are my asks:

Is there a spot that is/ has:

- Near cedar hills / Bethany/ 26 corridor (less than ~15 min from sunset HS would be ideal, dad doesn’t like to go far)
- good beer & good burgers (sweet potato fries on the menu a plus)
- ambiance- a nice patio moment, view, etc. outdoor seating please! I’m so looking forward to actual cooler weather!
-Kid friendly-ish - we don’t need a playground, just a space where we won’t get weird looks and has a kids menu :)
-Easy parking
- “Nicer” casual- like not a dive bar. Not an order at the counter situation (will be able to talk my parents into something like this if the view / food is killer)

Places we’ve already been:
westgate (fine but wasn’t the best place for kids)
Golden valley (fine - my parents LOVE it here)
Steeplejack (last time I was there they only had pizza?)
Breakside / LL/ dt Beaverton (already have a bar hopping night planned anyways)

Is there anything like that that we can go to instead of spending another night at CPR or god forbid the oak hills brew pub?

Thanks so much!

Tree pruning

My neighbor is unhappy that some branches and leaves from my tree are touching their roof and gutter. I offered to let them prune the branches but they want me to pay for it. I’m willing to have the branches that are touching their property taken care of. I could probably hire someone with a long ladder to cut the branches but I’m concerned about accidentally scratching/damaging their property. I would prefer to have a professional handle it properly.

I don’t think it’s a large job. Does anyone have a recommendation that does pruning job?

Used car pre-purchase inspection mechanic?

I’m in Beaverton and want to look at a car this weekend in Sherwood…anyone know of a mobile mechanic who can do pre-purchase inspections? Just a quick glance at the basics, I’m not mechanically inclined so anyone would know more than me. Thanks!

Cats: a rant

First let me say that I love animals and have had multiple cats in my life. But why do people move to Beaverton and suddenly decide that their cat is now an outdoor cat? My neighbor had a cat who had kittens so now there are 4 of them, new neighbor moved in across the way and was like “here’s mine too”. Plus the already existing 5 “neighborhood cats” that wander around plus a cat, that belonged to a dead guy, who lives in my bushes.

In my neighborhood alone I will see no fewer than 10 different cats just wandering around, leaving their poop everywhere (my dog LOVES cat poop so half our walks are “no drop it” but FREAKS out when a cat walks past the window). If you have an outdoor cat, no you don’t. You’ve just added another little ecological nightmare into an already crowded system. We used to have squirrels and birds in the yard. Now we have cat fights at 2am and poop everywhere.

Mobile pet groomer recommendations?

Hello all, so I've learned in the past week that my indoor-only cat has obtained fleas (possibly via my stepmother's dog when she visited recently >.> but that's beside the point).

I'm looking to get her shaved and bathed but I assume most places with a solid location (cats in the city is who I used to go to for shaves) will reject her due to the fleas, which makes complete sense but also means I need to look for mobile options.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cat groomers who can work with a cat with a mild temper, long hair (Maine coon genes), and fleas? I'm willing to pay more than usual for this and usually CITC would charge me ~$180 for a full shave and bathe of my girl.

Free car & motorcycle show + downtown party in Beaverton, Sunday Sept. 13

I'm one of the organizers of Traffic Jam on Broadway, a new community event happening Sunday, September 13th from 10am–2pm on SW Broadway St. in Beaverton.

We started this a couple years ago as a small customer appreciation car show at Fresh Start Detail, but this year several neighboring businesses and the Beaverton Downtown Association got involved, so we're opening it up to everyone.

The event is free to attend and will include:

-An invitational car and motorcycle show

-Food and drink booths from local favorites:
• Teriyakimoto
• Bluto's
• Fly Chai
• Lionheart Coffee Co.

 -Beer Garden featuring Binary Brewing

-Free raffles for our ceramic coating services

-Giveaways for the kiddos

📍 12130 SW Broadway St., Beaverton
🗓 Sunday, Sept. 13, 10am–2pm
🌦 Rain or shine

We're hoping to make this a fun downtown Beaverton gathering for car people, families, and anyone who wants to wander around, grab something to eat or drink, and check out some interesting vehicles.

Flyer has the rest of the details. I hope to see some of you there!

(We also have a few spots left for more show-cars, send me a msg or email info@freshstartdetail.com if you're interested)

I'm bad at socializing. Like. Really bad.

I moved here just shy of a year ago and the only social life I have is chatting with my nurses at clinic visits. I'm chronically ill and hopefully wrapping up cancer treatment soon. Which will leave me with a lot of free time. Does anyone still meet up at coffee shops anymore? Are car shows a thing here? I have a bunch of interests and hobbies, but no one to really talk about them with any more. Feel free to send me a message. I'd love to try and make a local friend.

Old Chicago bye bye

Been to this one at least over 10 years. Hard to see it go like this. The to-go place for a nice beer and dry-rub wings.

I just saw ICE grab a lady from the parking lot of Planet Fitness off TV HWY

I looked up and all the sudden dozens of vehicles swarmed her took her.I feel so awful witnessing it and her having to leave everything behind and her car. I hope there is a way for her family to be contacted.
