Not sure if a post like this is allowed, but any of you have ever had this happen before? I guess next time I should keep the little lid on top closed

Update:

Just a little more information for the people who are curious. Obviously I’m not touching the newly created mansion, and letting the new owner do its thing hahah.

Some were also wondering where this was taken, I live in the Netherlands. I think it’s a “blue tit” (but definitely correct me if I’m wrong).

Update 2:

I have been corrected, it’s a great tit.

How do I?..

Hello,
I’m new to this page and a complete newbie to birdhouses. I know nothing on the topic.
Moved home and there’s a used wooden birdhouse mounted high on the wall. I read I can clean it out with warm water and a little bleach and let it dry in the sun before remounting it but I could only unhook the top part from the nail. I couldn’t get the bottom off..
There were cobwebs behind the house and I do not do spiders so I’m scared to open it to clean it (I’ll get my partner to do it).
Anyway, I’ve left it half hanging as I ran away seeing said cobwebs and I believe they’re inside the house too.
Any tips on the best way to clean it out so it’s safe for use? Is a drop of bleach the way to go?
I’ve got a suet feeder at the ready as I was going to place that underneath the house.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Seems a shame to let it go to waste on the spiders.
Thank you x

Finally time to hang er up and see who moves in 😍

Made this one out of Maple wood, with Black Walnut bark for the roof. Hoping for a wren 🙃

Birdbottle birdhouse: H & W collaboration!

sharing a pic of our newest birdbottle bird house. They hang on a tree trunk or the side of a house or barn. The back is open for nest clean out if needed and it has a notch on the back for it to easily hang with a nail or screw. Our birds just love them. Birdbottle houses date back to Colonial times. I threw the pot and my wife Debbi of hand paints the outside. No stencils or transfers - just her artistic eye and vision. We are having so much fun doing joint pieces and we have come so far in 10 months.

New to backyard birding

Hi, I've recently taken an interest in birds as well as my mother, and was wondering about any tips and recommendations for attracting birds to a backyard birdhouse, we are located in Florida, and have a large sycamore in our front yard that already brings birds, and what I believe is an oak in our backyard. I've been looking to attract potentially cardinals, bluejays, or bluebirds but if there are any better or more appropriate species please give any advice, I mostly see bluejays and common brown Florida species I'm working on identifying. I've also seen a few cardinals. Thank you!

PVC

Thoughts on using PVC pips for nests? I want the birds to have a comfortable home and I saw some nests made of PVC. I believe I could put a few tweaks of my own on it and it would be vented.

Elvis has left the building

Has anyone else had challenges with securing a heavy birdhouse to a base? I built four bolts into original structure but it needed more. I ended up using wall spring open anchors.

I had to explain a shotgun wedding to my ten year old. 😀
