This year's World Migratory Bird Day theme highlights the role of citizen science in bird conservation.

The International Waterbird Census turns 60 this year. What started as coordinated counts has grown into a global data network — millions of birders contributing observations that directly inform conservation policy.

Every eBird checklist, every count, every note you submit becomes part of a larger picture. Population trends. Migration timing shifts. Habitat changes. The data tells the story.

**Oct 10** is the fall date (May 9 was spring). If you're already birding, you're already contributing.
