Loudout of a Sphendonē hippwoi: Slinger rider
Though sphendonē hippwoide (slinger riders) might not be as rich or prestigious as aniokhosi (charioteers), they still play a very important role in most military endeavours, from flanking an enemy force that is engaging their friendly troops to harassing incoming enemy troops and supply lines.
Originally they were just simply a bunch of lawos (conscripts/common soldiers) who were given an iqo (horse) and enkhos (spear) that wasn't being used to scout and send messages for the army, but their usefulness in combat was quickly figured out when they charged into the backs of an enemy force that was engaging with friendly troops as they were coming back and easily routed them. Since then high status lawos (conscripts/common soldiers) and low ranking/poorer hekwetas (warrior class) men who can't afford a chariot but still want to be mounted become sphendonē hippwoide.
A sphendonē hippwoi will always be equipped with a smaller than average sphendonē (sling) and around 25 stones, give or take, at a time which'll be used from horseback. They're also nearly always equipped with a scabbard/quiver of 3 enkheha mewyo (short javelins), which were shortened so it's significantly easier to carry and use on an iqo (horse), they also have a throwing etawo (string) on them to aid in power, distance and accuracy. Finally, they'll have some sidearm of their choice, like a makhaira aryōma (curve bladed sword).
- Sling: Lomandra rope treated with animal fat, with a leather pouch to hold the projectile.
- Short javelin: 30" from end of bronze butt cap to the base of the blade, 6" head, a simple ankyle. Shaft is made of Spear Wattle.
- Makhaira aryōma: 26.7" blade, ~4.5" handle. Handle is made of Queensland Ebony.
