He fakes his death, by disintegrating himself into millions of tiny particles while in battle with doom as the void.

Prior to this happening, Doom had found a way to trigger the Void.

Unbeknownst to Doom, Bob had not been idle when it came to figuring out his powers, he had found a way to take control, to an extent, whenever the Void is unleashed.

A single moment before whoever or whomever's reality warping energy blast makes contact with him, he forces energy outwards against that in a few blasts to create a gigantic explosion that covers the battlefield to disguise his disintegration.

Would have loved to see them hugging each other. Maybe in Doomsday when they think it could be the last they see each other, they have that hug.
