Wish I could Again

Moved away from the water and i miss body boarding so much. Stuck here in the Arizona with no place to go catch waves other than a expensive alternative (revel surf). Along with other circumstances, I cant just make a surf trip to Cali since thats just not realistic. Just came here to check out the community and how its doing and I love to see you guys shredding. If anyone knows any alternatives let me know please it will be much appreciated.

Why do a lot of male bodyboarders have longer blonde hair hair?

It seems a lot of male surfers and bodyboarders have longer blonde hair, anyone grow their hair out just for surfing?

IBC pascuales, opinions

Hey guys world tour Pascuales day one is over, who was your favorite rider today? In my opinion it was Josue Guevara, I know the guy personally he lives in the same small town that I live in, he’s been my inspiration to start bodyboarding, man I’m proud to see him finally being talked about in the big stage, like wow scoring a 9.00 ride on a world stage is insane!
Vamos equipo C.D.C! 🇲🇽
I really hope to see more of him tmrw! Good luck to whoever you’re rooting for guys! 🤙🏽

Impact suit

Anyone worn an impact suit under their wettie in anger? Our local reefs are jagged rather than flat and every few weeks in winter I take a pretty hard knock.

I’m wondering if they feel restrictive or whether I’d need to size up a wettie.

Feels like overkill but might be worth the squeeze for my increasingly knackered body.

Anyone have a bodyboard 4 sale in San Diego?

Kind of a long shot, but fb marketplace is a bit dry and bodyboard community is awesome.

I’ve bodyboarded in Hawaii for 5+ years, but now in San Diego. I wanna get back to sponging here in San Diego as it’s been almost 10 years since I’ve paddled out. I’m looking for large fins, and a 42-43 inch crescent tail board in reasonable condition. If any of you are in SD please let me know. Or if you know a “guy” or a spot that hooks it up.

Also, if any spongers in San Diego want to paddle out sometime I’m open to making new friends too, I’m still learning about the best spots and swells.

Thank you.

Found an old film canister from ‘88 and developed the Picts. Who wears short shorts!!!!

These were the only pictures that came out from the 30 year old hidden film canister.

I will say, this is when I was just learning 360 airs after I saw the Goat preform on in Hawaii. At the time, they were UNHEARD of.

Also, you can see I wore my leash on my ankle. This took getting used too, but I still prefer it to bicep and wrist leashes.

How do you turn?

I’m new and just starting out. I have fins and a decent board. I’m catching waves but it feels like I keep going straight down the face. If I’m trying to go left, I put my left hand on the nose with my forearm/elbow on the board; my right hand is mid rail. I try to put weight on my left elbow/forearm and lift with my right hand. It feels like I spin more than turn. I’m trying to go down the face, do a bottom turn and come back up the face.

Guys... I'm speechless. Just got this message on my YT Mavericks video!

This was well over 30 years ago; giant swells slamming onto riprap boulders with no sand on which to land. Scrambled over the rocks and hauled him up and out between waves, and even managed to save his board :)

Getting this message this morning made my day!

Advices for a beginner

I'm new to this hobby and I need to know what the best weather conditions are for training. Last week, the waves were 1.2 meters high with a period of 7 to 8 seconds. They felt quick and small, so I couldn't really catch any of them.

Also, are there any exercises I should start with? Like practicing going straight with the wave first instead of trying to turn?

Thank you!

Softboard for summer

Hello everyone.

I've been a bodyboarder for over 20 years, surfing in Portugal.

I'm passionate about bodyboarding and will practice it as long as I can, but in the summer, in those half-meter waves with wind, I feel I don't get as much pleasure from it anymore.

That's why I'm considering buying one of those foam surfboards just for fun in small waves.

I've never held a surfboard before. For a light person like me (63kg), would you recommend buying a 6" softboard or the larger 7" ones?

Thank you and good waves.

Feeling rattled after a situation with an aggressive surfer

I probably shouldn’t let this get to me but for some reason it’s kinda stinging today.

So I’m basically the only person at my local who bodyboards, and definitely the only girl who does.

I’ve been doing it a few years now, gone out into lineups on 8-10 foot days (my local is usually trash, small waves) and had a blast and been really friendly with the surfers.

We smile when each other catches a good one and chat in the parking lot. Lots of lovely people. The vibe itself is a big part of why I love doing this. It’s a relaxing, low energy way to feel social and share happiness with complete strangers when someone does something cool.

Today, we had 1-foot, mushy shore break. Some slightly better waves a little further out but super crowded and not worth it in my opinion. For some reason, the lineup vibe was super serious when I showed up in the shallower portion. I felt a lot of stink eyes on me as I entered. I was the only bodyboarder, but there were tons of kooks with paddleboards that seemed way worse than one bodyboarder.

Anyway, I keep off to the side a bit more and take a lot of the waves nobody wanted or had no chance of getting. I give priority, I move out the way when I see someone getting ready to take one, overall show respect. The waves are pretty trash, and I don’t really care about any of them to be pushy or get mad that I had technically had priority a few times. I still manage to get some green ones and do some spins and I think the other surfers warmed up to me once they saw how I acted and were more smiley.

But this one guy on a longboard, who has looked absolutely miserable all day and like he’s angry that he’s surfing, catches a wave super far from me. I notice he has the skill to do turns and control wherever he wants to go, and he makes eye contact with me, frowns, and makes a beeline for my head.

What gives?

As he gets closer, the wave is dying fast and there’s literally no reason for him to keep coming at me, but he does. I decide to hold my ground because I know he’s capable of turning and the ride is definitely over. It feels like an intimidation thing where if I move, he wins and does it again until he drives me off. He gets like an inch away and does an abrupt pivot.

I had been far away from this guy all day. He was one of the surfers on the further break. I never went for a wave he was going for or had any interaction with him prior.

Kind of dumb but I felt rattled. There’s also just a weird vibe to it when an older, solo guy does this to a young, solo girl minding her business. I thought the sponger beef with surfers was long gone. I’ve genuinely never experienced it before today.

There is a small voice in my head sometimes where I feel a little insecure about being an adult booging, like people see me and think I’m doing something tourist kids do and play in whitewater. It’s dumb, I know, but when stuff like this happens, that voice gets a little louder.

Can anyone commiserate or give advice?

What's up with the different types of PP cores these days eg 1.2pp or 1.5pp

On one podcast I heard Mitch rawlins describe them as basically just cheaper version of 1.9pp, is that a fair description?
