Can I save this bougainvillea? Transplanted over 3 months ago.

This bougainvillea was planted in the ground over 3 months ago and has severely declined. I understand there may be transplant shock but since it has been over 3 months, can it recover? it gets watered 2x a week, morning sun, and I’m in Southern California. Any suggestions to revive it appreciated!!

How do growers get bougainvillea this dense while still producing so many flowers?

I understand the usual trick: mild water stress → more flowering.

But I’ve never seen water stress alone produce something this dense.

What’s the actual logic here?

Is it mostly repeated pruning + branching first, then flower induction later?

Or am I missing another factor? (root restriction, nutrition timing, etc.)

Bougainvillea repotting help

Good evening all,

I’m located in Sydney Australia. It is currently winter with spring coming in September. Current temps are around 18 degrees Celsius during the day and 14/15 degrees Celsius in the evenings. Balcony is full sun for 6 hours per day.

I recently purchased these two Bougainvilleas ( just under 3 weeks ago) and repotted them into these ceramic pots.

We have well draining bougainvillea soil, potassium fertilizer lightly (low nitrogen) and given a good watering so water came out the bottom of both. Haven’t watered since and awaiting soil to dry a lot before doing so to ensure no wet feet.

When planting we did disturb the rootball about 20-30% before planting which I have no read is not ideal for bougainvilleas but lesson learnt.

I’ve attached 6 pictures in comments below. 3 of each plant (A and B) at 3 different intervals across the 3 weeks I’ve had them. They have started to yellow in the last week with lots of leaves falling however green new shoots coming off branches.

Number 1 is for day of repotting
Number 2 is yesterday
Number 3 is the evening after removing all the yellow leaves which just fall off if you touch them.

Can anyone give me some advice and prognosis for these? Is it just transplant shock? Is it just normal for winter? Will they die?

Anything I should do now to support them or just let them be.

Thanks! First time owner of bougainvilleas and I don’t want them to die as I’ll be training them up the walls.

Is it ok?

Hello, I was wondering the spots and the coloration on the leaves. Is it too much water not enough water too much Sun too much shade, or is it just being it? Because it wants to be in the ground and it's saying, plant me, plant me? More fertilizer ?

Bougainvillea Trim Help

I am thinking of trimming this plant in these two places to increase growth and fill out like the other plant. Would these be good places to trim it?

Help with Bougainvillea in Arizona

Hi! Could someone share any advice of what I can do to help this bougainvillea thrive? The bougainvillea receives full sun (southwest corner of yard) in Phoenix, Arizona.

From what I have read, they don’t do as well in pots and I am willing to plant in the ground at some point. I am open to advice as to the best time of year to do that.

In the meantime, any suggestions on how to improve its current health? (Also, from what I have read, the cuts in the leaves are from leaf-cutting bees, although I am no expert.)

Thank you!
