Since launching the NM-CYD-C5 (the ESP32-C5 based CYD variant with dual-band WiFi 6), the single most common piece of feedback has been:

"Could you make a 1u variant that I could connect an antenna to?"

"Does it have external antenna connector"

"Will an external antenna be supported this time, or is a DIY solution again required to attach an external antenna?"

Fair point. 5GHz attenuates much faster than 2.4GHz, and a small PCB trace antenna surrounded by a display and ground planes has its limits.

So: the NM-CYD-C5-Colorful-Ant is coming.

• IPEX-1 connector + bundled dual-band 2.4G/5G antenna • External antenna only — no onboard PCB antenna on this version • Same ESP32-C5 (dual-band WiFi 6, BLE 5.3, Zigbee/Thread), same 16MB Flash + 8MB PSRAM, same CYD-compatible footprint • Still works with Bruce / Marauder / ESPHome, etc as before

The default External Antenna Parameters

• Frequency range: 2400-2500MHz / 5000-5800MHz
• VSWR: 2400-2500 ≤ 2.5, 5000-5800 ≤ 2.5
• Efficiency %: 2400-2500: 83.3 AVG; 5000-5800: 73.8 AVG
• Peak Gain (dBi): 2400-2500: 3.2 AVG; 5000-5800: 3.7 AVG
• Radiation Properties: Omni-directional
• Polarization: Linear

We've been working on a Dual-Band Analyzer to make full use of the ESP32-C5's 5GHz capability in Bruce, and just opened PR #2804 for review.

What it does:

• Scans 5GHz channels (non-DFS channels only for now)
• Shows channel utilization and signal strength for both bands side-by-side

Current status:

Tested on NM-CYD-C5 (ESP32-C5 + ST7789). The code is working but we're looking for feedback before it gets merged – especially on UI layout and whether we should include DFS channel support (passive scan only) in a follow-up.

I have a big problem, I have the latest system and everything is fine, but I can't, for example, turn the TV off and on. Is it the system's fault or am I doing something wrong?

Need for help

It’s crazy but I took an antenna from an old radio, Yk the type when actually printing circuit boards wasnt in anyone’s thoughts. and I put it on my cheap yellow display. Had to scrape the built in antenna and stuff. this had to be my proudest esp 32 moment of all time. Usually tech stuff doesn’t work out for me

I have several questions I need help with if someone can please help! 😭 (At the end with ❓)

I am trying to build a device that is very capable and max out what it can do. There’s nothing specific I am setting up for I just want to to be able to jam , to spam and have sub ghz and WiFi 2.4/5/6 capability and learn to protect myself.

! I have a nm-cyd c5 running launcher and have a secondary esp32 c5 wifi6 dev kit. I plan to add a lot more components to the build such as

I don’t have any specific plans for the build except learning and I am more interested in learning more nefarious things to better understand them and be able to recognize when I am vulnerable. So whatever firmware gives me the most freedoms I saw a repo for m5 but the firmwares stated they had very specific Purposes. Thank you!

❓if I’m using c5 cyd with launcher What firmware for esp32 slave? Should I use the c5, s3 , wroom etc

❓what antennas or components should not be placed near the other?

❓Is there a better pairing of esp32 for my build ?

❓any other ways I can improve my device? Any advice.

❓ the ebyte e01- can I combine them say 2 to save space and would i be able to double the reach?
Also how do I tell which ones are fake? I have a pair that look very different than the other pair.

❓is it true I shouldn’t add a screw on amplifier to the flux capacitor because I have the Lora?

❓is the gps only good for war driving? (I have no interest in it)

❓ is there any reason to also use the nrf24 I have? I have like 5-6 laying around.
